So I've received my first NGPC. A bit of research on my part turns up the following as lighting options for playing in a dark environment:

1) Worm Light - this seems to be cheap and useless (just like the GBC version)

2) Mash-mods.com - Front Light Kit [LINK (http://mash-mods.com/products/Frontlit%20Systems%20&%20Services/frontlightkit)] - seems relatively easy to install, but nowhere near the quality of the GBA SP method below

3) DIY GBA SP light installation [LINK (http://www.neo-geo.com/forums/showthread.php?t=159804&highlight=DIY)] (Thanks Xian Xi!) - seems to be a perfect solution, but seems quite difficult to install

Is the above list exhaustive? Are there any other options that I'm missing? Would those knowledgeable about NGPC recommend the Mashmods light kit or the Xian Xi process? Also, I'm kind of wondering whether it's necessary at all, the screen seems quite visible with only a lamp nearby. Thanks for any comments :D

Personally, I absolutely LOVE the screen w/o any enhancments from a backlight, etc. I simply cannot tell you how much I think the screen is just beautiful, beautiful, beautiful!!! As long as I have had mine I've rarely needed any additional light to see the screen, unlike the GBA. I believe that it's one of the best made non-backlit screens ever made. So, unless you plan on playing in the dark, I would just leave it alone. I'm sure many other would agree with me that the screen is good left alone.

Only not-lit handheld i've never had a yearning to mod. I play it in a normally lit room all the time and can see everything great.

You may want to play it for a while and see if you really need to mod it at all.

Good suggestion - I'll give awhile - I'm sure it'll be fine. It does seem much easier to see than the original GBA and GBC, which I always had trouble seeing.

If I recall, someone here at DP installed the "Afterburner" (meant for the GBA) in their NGPC. Perhaps they'll pop up and chime in.

I had one done by mash-mods, his work is great, but the mod was horrible - the afterburner kit makes it washed out and unplayable, IMHO.

BTW - the DIY tut provided by Xian Xi is hosted on my webpage, how-ever, I just move to a new city and have a different ISP, so I don't know how long it will stay at that link (I'll have Xian Xi update the link when I get a new website/host)
