Hey guys!

I am new to the arcade part of video gaming & I just purchased a Donkey Kong machine with display issues. It works fine for a few minutes & then I get vertical lines. The whole picture is scrambled. Any idea as to the cause & what would it take to repair? I understand there are potentially dangerous components & I don`t want to tinker with it & get hurt or worse! Any help would me greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Not sure exactlt where they are on your machine, but there are some adjustments on the monitor. It could be a minor fix, or a little more involved. Open up the back of the machine, and first look for a small adjustment board. It should have some "dials" (actually called potentiometers, or pots) on it. It'll say things like contrast, bright, v-hold, v-pos, h-pos, etc....You might have a horizontal hold issue. I realize you have vertical lines, but those monitors are mounted sideways, so a vertical issue = horizontal problem. If you DON'T find an adjustment board somewhere, check on the back of the monitor's circuit board itself. BE CAREFUL!!! You'll be adjusting this with the power on, so ONLY touch the adjustments. Use a small screwdriver, and be aware of what your screwdriver is touching. If you have a fairly steady hand, have someone else hold a vanity mirror so you can see the screen in revers while you adjust.
If any of this doesn't help, you're looking at component isues, and a qualified person to repair it. See if anyone here is local to your area, and/or knows how or is willing to repair your monitor for you (if this is the case). It could be a simple fix, as I said. If you just bought the machine, maybe something got bounced around a little bit in transit.

No, I was aware of the issue prior to the purchase. I did find the (Pots) controls previous to this thread & that was not the issue. If there is anyone in the Southeastern Wisconsin area that would be willing to help out, that would be great! As I stated before I`m new to the Arcade scene & don`t know many people with much experience with them. Thanks again for any help guys!

I am now being told that it sounds like a circuit board heating issue. A guy from an arcade business told me that`s what he thought it was based on my description. Does anybody know if this is a do-it-yourself type repair or not? If it is, can you help walk me through it? Thanks again guys!

If the graphics are scrambled, it's not likely any monitor issue, the overheating board scenario sounds much more likley.

By the way, you'd be talking to much more knowledgable people if you go to the KLOV repair forum- http://forums.webmagic.com/ubbthreads/postlist.php?Cat=0&Board=KLOVHELP

Search around there for awhile and post if you can't find any solution.

By the way, anyone know what a Donkey Kong board goes for? Sounds to me like his easiest option.

The business I called wants me to bring it in for repairs. I`m sure it will cost me an arm & a leg that way. Not to mention it`s an hour drive! I prefer to be walked through it on the internet or better yet, have someone come & repair it. Maybe I could just buy a new board. Not quite sure if that`s the problem yet. It plays for about 10 minutes on initial start-up and then the vertical lines come. That sounds like it could be a heating issue, but I`m an amateur at this.
