View Full Version : Tell me it's true: V-boy PS = SNES PS

I just got a V-boy boxed with a PS by Nintendo that said on it: 'For use with SNES or Virtual Boy only'

Does this mean that all SNES power supplies (PS, for the uninitiated) are good for Virtual Boys? If so, that would explain why I bought 10 extra SNES PSes accidentally over the years.

It's true. I've switched them out in mine and it works fine.

Isn't there some kind of adapter that goes between the SNES power supply and a Virtual Boy?

Yes, there is a little box that the AC plugs into that goes where the battery pack is. Good luck tracking one down.

Last I checked Nintendo still had the Tap (the battery box adapter for the SNES AC adapter to VB) available for 4.95, however they were really low on stock. call them or check store.nintendo.com.

Just checked the Nintendo store, it doesn't look like you can just buy the adapter tap from them, you have to buy both the adapter and tap in a set for $20 :(

Ah, that's right. I forgot about that little snafu. Would it have been so hard to add a jack?

Well, I better take a look at this V-boy. Bets on it has the 'tap.'

You could try to hack in a socket buy getting the battery pack, and installing a power jack directly to the + and - contact of the battery pack. Yopu'd have to remember NOT to have batteries in when using AC adapter.

I have one myself and it really helps to save on batteries. But the plug tended to pull out if you have a rough action so I tie a knot near the plug end before plugging the adapter into the tap. The knot would prevent the cord from being pulled out, which would help keep the plug in.
