Hi Folks,

First, I want to apologize for not putting this in the tech forum, but I'll explain why. I'm on vaction in Ohio (I'm from NH) visiting my g/f's family. It's Monday, and I'll only be here until Thursday, so I was really hoping to fix her cousin's pstwo. No one ever visits the tech forum, and I'm on a bit of a time crunch, so I hope you can help.

It seems almost every early model was somewhat easily fixable, based on all the FAQs I've found online. However, this later model slimline won't read anything and I've found absolutely nothing online about fixing this model

I'm hoping you folks could point me in the right direction. I see other folks online have had the same issue with this model, yet they are making the same complaint I am...there's no info on it.

The closest thing I found was this:

http://www.ultimateconsoleguides.com/playstation_2.htm (http://www.ultimateconsoleguides.com/playstation_2.htm)

See where it says "slimline model added?" I'd hate to buy that and find out it's not what I need, you know?

Thanks very much!

-Rob

The best solution to fix your problem is to replace the laser. Replacements are about $15.00 on Ebay. After installing a new laser it should work like new. Although the laser will not arrive before you have to leave. As such you might want to try the local game repair shop, since it is an easy fix that they should be able to do rather quickly.

i wouldnt pay for any of those guides, i am sure you could find something with a little more digging into the internet.

i rember something about slim ps2's and this problem right when they came out but i dont know what version that is compared to your version 14

edit:
i found this, not a good sign

http://www.modchip.com/ps2/v12laserfix.htm

read the blurb off to the side, check and see if its under warranty

Seems that problem only pops up if the machine is modded, but his isn't.

As for the local repair shop, he lives out in EBF, OH, so I don't think there is one, lol.

$15 on ebay? Wow...seems many other shops were selling lasers for various models from $35 to $65. How do you find the laser model number on these slimlines? I don't see it anywhere.

So, these slimlines aren't adjustable? There's no way around the laser replacement?
