One of my friends has a son who is turning 9 today. He got a PS2 for Christmas, and I'd really like to get him a new game for it that'll knock his socks off. So far, he only has Harry Potter, Spongebob, one of the wrestling games (he couldn't remember the name), and a sports title. He IS big into wrestling; his babysitter tapes everything for him (they get all the PPV stuff). I don't think mom wants anything too violent, and I'd prefer something on the cheap (pricewise) side.
Suggestions?

The original Legends of Wrestling should be pretty cheap, probably about 19.99 US, also the first Smackdown, Know Your Role should be fairly cheap down there, (at least those two games are cheap up here.)

As far as gameplay. Legends isn't very deep, and for a young guy who probably wouldn't know most of the older wrestlers anyway, Smackdown is probably the way to go.

Storyline mode and alot more different variables than Legends has...

Good Luck

Tekken Tag Tournament is cheap, and pretty easy to play.

I suggest Klonoa 2 or SSX Tricky. Tricky is one that we keep coming back to, it's easy to master and really fun.

try these:

rayman 2 revolution
gadget racers
rumble racing (really fun!)
stunt gp
dual hearts (dunno if this is cheap yet)
sky gunner (ditto)
klonoa 2 (if you can find one cheap)

Hmm...Kingdom Hearts would be perfect, except it doesn't really fit into the "inexpensive" category.

What about one of the older Spyro games? The ones I've played are pretty dang fun, and the non-newest-versions might be in the bargain bin.

good ideas, I love the old Spyros especially but FOR THE LOVE OF GOD DO NOT BUY THE NEW PS2 ONE! It made me cry with its terrible badness :(
Kingdom Hearts was a lot of fun for me, boring for Brian and I never figured out the Gummi ship.

SSX Tricky is great for EVERYONE. My friend's 9-year old loves the game as well, did NOT like Klonoa, but as I believe all 9-year olds do, LOVES Dragonball GT (I haven't played that one, I hear it's pretty good though).

Did anyone see Cassidy Nolen's wife playing SSX Tricky at PhillyClassic? Mother of GOD. I thought I was a good player, I can string together mad combinations but this woman was springing off of bars, doing the "tricky" special move and landing on those suspended rails. I've never seen anyone play the game like that, and it's gotten me interested in it all over again.

I'll second the Tekken Tag recommendation - low, low price and insane replay value, plus Bowling With Heihachi = no-brainer.

Also PaRappa 2 is in the 19.99 range (new) and a super-fun cartoon fest of rhythm action. That video game level RULES. So does Mr. Rodney Greenblat. :)

Anyone else have any ideas?

The games I would recommend are probably too violent...Grand Theft Auto 3 and Grand Theft Auto:Vice.

Then why would you recommend them if you know they're too violent? *shrug*
Thanks for the ideas, guys! I'm gonna go pick one up today, and I'll let you know later the reaction :D
