Sony Computer Entertainment Europe president David Reeves said "the difference between 60 and the 80 gigabyte is very small. We just feel that going up 20 gigabyte is not worth it. If you're going to double it, it's worth it. So maybe you'll see something a little bit later, but 60 and 80? Really not much difference."

David Reeves said the new ps 3 pack in Europe with an extra controller and 2 games for the system will be the same price as the ps 3 is currently right now in europe.

This is what Sony of America should've done at this point if they wanted to keep the price. As consumer, I would want a 60 GB ps 3, that has 2 games, 2 controllers instead of 1 games and a 80 gb hard disk drive based on value to me, if I wanted a ps 3. How many consumers need more memory for a hard disk drive for the playstation 3? I don't think a lot of consumers need the 80 gb model.

Why are the Presidents of different arms of Sony disagreeing with each other in public?

If I was the CEO and one of my employees was talking public smack on another arm of the business I'd have him fired.

Sony is disintegrating, which is a damned shame, because the PS3 is just now starting to look like an attractive proposition.

I guess Sony is comming with some video on demand service since they release a 80GB model. 20GB difference isnt much, but it is some.

The 60GB model was $599, now its $499, that is a $100 pricecut. If the 80GB was released at launch it would most likely have been like $650 - $699. Besides, the 20GB SKU that was $499 at launch was discontunied pretty fast and what i know its been near impossible to find the last couple of months, so the only option you basicly had was to buy the 60GB model for $599. If the 20GB SKU was still avalible, it would most likely had costed around $399 today. The price on all the SKUs would have dropped in price from what they originally costed, so yes, its a pricecut.

I know what people mean tho, that you just get more stuff for the same price. But as said, the 60GB was $599 before, now its $499. If that isnt a pricecut, then i dont know. Now you also have a $499 option again (i know the 20GB model was $499 too, but it was hardly avalible. If anyone knows where to find them, how much do they cost now?) Its also alittle strange, first people said pricecut when it went from $599 to $499, but then suddently it wasnt a pricecut afterall just because a new 80GB model is comming? The first situation from $599 to $499 doesnt change because of the 80GB model is released.

The difference between the 20Gb and 60Gb was fairly significant depending on your needs. Built in wireless adapter, 300% more storage, and a bunch of flash memory readers (....which are awesomely pointless...but ok!). The difference between the 60Gb and the 80Gb is 33% more storage and fewer internal chips. Hmmm.

They should have dropped the 60 to $449 and released the 80 at $499 if they weren't going to bundle in extra goodies and $599 only if they were going to throw in another controller and some free downloadable games to go with that copy of Motorstorm (like Blast Factor and Fl0w)

That's pretty much my take on it as well.

Europe didn't get the 80 gb ps 3 and a 60 GB ps 3 price cut because of the other arms of Sony, not Sony Computer Entertainment Europe.

The president had to answer the question from the media and he put a positive spin on it for the consumers living in Europe. He didn't the consumers to think they were being treated like a red headed step child compared to the United States in terms of the same model getting a price cut in the United States. He shouldn't make that comment, but I think he sick of how his arm of sony is treated.

Video game consumers in Europe usually got treated like a red headed step child compare to Japan and North America in some ways by some companies in terms of what games they get and it is almost always Europe gets the video game system hardware last.

There was not a 499.99 model in Euros in Europe to begin with. Europe only gotthe 60 Gb model without the emtion chip for the ps 3.

True that, but if the 80GB model was released at launch it would obviously cost more than $599, since that was the price of the 60GB model. I just wanted to show that a pricedrop happend. Afaik, the only chip that is removed is the EE one.

It also include Motor Storm (retail value of 60$) so its about $40 for the 20GB extra.

I feel they are obviously trying to reduce the amount of money they lose on each system with this move. At this point an 80GB drive with Motorstorm probably has the same effective costs as the 60GB drive did at launch. Besides I want a 100+ GB solid state drive for my PS3 - they want to have the best technology don't they?
