I was planning on buying some SFC games in the future, but I ran across a thread earlier that left me with some questions.
Are most of the SFC games locked out?
I'm looking into getting the following
Return of Double Dragon
Ghost Sweeper Mikami
Rockman & Forte
Shin Neketsu Banka kouha Kunio Tatino (I think thats right)
Do Re Mi Fantasy
Do I need a converter for these? If I do, where can I get one, I don't see any on ebay.

No Super Famicom cartridges have a software region lock. It's purely in the system, and even then it's only a slight physical difference that prevents Super Famicom carts from playing in a SNES. Yes, there are converters out there or you can use any other kind of pass-through cart like various cheating devices, but if you have any desire to play cartridges that use special side chips (look at the connectors and see if there's just one piece in the middle or if that piece is surrounded by two smaller pieces of connectors), you'll have to make sure the converter you're getting actually supports those extra connectors. They can be tricky because some have slots that the connectors can fit into, but the slots are empty and don't carry the signal to the system.
The easiest solution is to modify your SNES, which is probably the simplest mod out there. I had no experience with such things the first time I did it, and even I managed to do a very clean, professional job. Just open up the cartridge slot of the SNES and use a good pair of pliers to bend and cut out the two plastic tabs until you can fit a SFC cart.

There's a region lock, but if you own a US Snes then the only region lock... is a piece of plastic. As Aussie2B said, JAP carts just do not fit because of two pieces of plastic inside the cartridge slot. I cut those in my Snes and I can now play Japanese games without any problems.
If you have an European Snes, then you have to find a converter or to mod your console.

If you come across a copy of Do Re Mi Fantasy (after you aquire one of course) please LMK. I also have been wanting a copy but I have not been able to find one. :(
Sometimes you may get lucky on Ebay with a converter. I actually aquired one browsing SFC games and ran across FF V complete for $10 and the seller included a converter (complete) as well. I bought it for the converter alone just to get one. I knew I would not be able to really enjoy FF V because of the heavy text in RPG's but at least I had a test game to try out. :)
later on though I picked up a modded snes from a fellow board member. :)
one other tip if you search Ebay. Try spelling it convertor I have seen it spelled that way. Mine is actually spelled that way on the box and that is how it was spelled in the auction listing.
