The US soundtrack release for FF III (US) for the super nintendo... a friend just gave it to me, and I looked on the bay and saw just one copy for sale in a shop for 179.99.

Zuh?

Is it really that valuable?

Nah, that seller just has some whacked out prices. A lot of his soundtracks are priced at well over a hundred dollars more than what any sane person would pay, so he just sits on them for all eternity waiting for a sucker to come along.

It's tough to say how much it's worth since it's definitely rare and doesn't show up often (although the same can be said for many albums of that era since print runs were so conservative and even more so for the few US soundtracks that were produced). There's also the whole issue of price fluctuation in soundtrack values, and the general trend as of late of older soundtracks losing some of their prior value as most collectors have already acquired them and thus the demand decreases. In the case of Kefka's Domain, it doesn't help that the Japanese Final Fantasy VI soundtrack is very common and cheap (and I think Kefka's Domain might not contain the entire soundtrack?), so its value would be determined purely by its interest as a collector's item, rather than by people who just want to listen to the music.

Just to pull some numbers out of thin air, I'm sure you could get at least $30 for it. I would highly doubt over $100. Pretty wide gap I'm giving you, I know, but that's soundtrack price fluctuation for you.

yeah that's a bit high. I believe that sound track is from around when FF3 first came out in the US. Great soundtrack btw. I've seen a few on ebay. $30 sounds fair. If you got lucky you may get more on ebay.

Yes i saw this overpriced one. It's rare but it's shitty cheap US version. Not worthy. Better get jap original if i had to choose. 30$

I bought mine from Squaresoft (there was an order form that came with FF3) for what I believe was $40 at the time. Certainly it should be more valuable than that now.
