Here's one for the record books...

So I found out today that eBay's find your item/pre-filled information for U.S. Master System games is totally screwed. Here's why. It seems all those years ago whoever did the pre-filled info for the SMS games listed games A through Missile Defense 3-D as platform = Master System. Then they listed Monopoly through Zillion II as platform = Sega Master.

Why is this a problem? Because there is no platform category Master System! If you list any of the A - Missile Defense 3-D games using the pre-filled info you will not be able to navigate through the site categories and find them. This is a pretty big deal since many people don't search, instead using the Video Games > Games > Sega Master navigation method.

So I get on eBay Live Help. The rep I get is a pretty much a total retard. It takes about ten minutes for them to even navigate Video Games > Games > Sega Master. I don't want to relay the whole thing but basically it took over an hour. At the end the rep's supervisor was the one who noticed the Master System/Sega Master problem.

But there's more! They wanted me to submit error reports for all of the screwed up games! How can they expect me to do this? Why don't they do it themselves all at once? Man, they really burn me up sometimes. I guess the lesson is eBay is lame (not a newsflash) and if you're listing SMS games above Monopoly in the alphabet you have to do it manually. Bloody bastards.

I see how this is a problem, but I also see how it's not a problem. If you're selling a specific game, just about anyone who plans on buying it will be searching by name. Regardless of where the game is listed, as long as you have the name said game in the auction title, potential buyers will still be able to find it.

if I'm searching for system specific games I never look in the catagory, I use search words or UPC code.

If it is a system I am specifically moving toward a complete set of, for example sega genesis currently, I will browse the system listings to see if there are any deals on auctions ending in the next day or so and not by the game's title. So if I was looking for master system titles, I would be missing out on a lot of them because of this.
