View Full Version : Help CGE Help Itself - BOOK A ROOM!

Hey Guys....and girls.
Here's the scoop. In order to move CGE from someplace like The Plaza to a newer hotel actually on the strip like The Riviera, we have to guarantee a certain number of room nights at the hotel. We guaranteed 514 room nights which means that if people using the CGE discount code don't fill those rooms, CGE is forced to pay for them. Currently we are at 464 room nights - exactly 50 short of our requirement. Our bill for the shortage is around $6000 at this point and, frankly, we can't afford it! CGE is not about making money...none of us organizers has ever been paid for our time and effort putting the show together. We do, however, need it to be able to pay it's own bills or it simply cannot exist.
So if you haven't booked your room, please do so and be sure to use the CGE discount code. If you booked at another hotel for some reason, please re-consider and if at all possible, cancel your reservation and re-book at The Riviera. If you forgot to use the CGE code, please call the hotel and re-book your room with the code. Maybe even some of you might have time to hang-out in Vegas for an extra night?
We're so close here folks! Fifty room nights is all we need. Anything that you can do to help will be greatly appreciated.

My father booked the room for me and I don't think he used the code. I'll make sure to call the hotel tomorrow and do it. (We're staying for 4 nights too)

Well, I just got off the phone with them. Apparently, my father booked the hotel through Expedia, and because he used a third party, I can't use the CGE code.

I seem to remember having a similar problem in 2005, and John had to set the hotel straight...

John/Sean, if you are going to need to call the hotel for anybody else, you might check the status on Andy Moon. He's coming in with me (Darren Sulfridge) and may not have used the code. I'll check with him when I can, but it should be 4 nights total.

Yeah, Hardie. If you want to call and yell at them for me, you can... just make sure I end up with a room at the end of it all. :)
If you want, I can pm you my details.

The thing about rooms that were booked through travel agent websites such as Expedia and/or Travelocity, we don't get credit for those and I don't think you can change them. It might be worth checking into, but I think you're stuck with them....and, unfortunately, I believe you probably paid more than if you would have booked directly through the hotel.

Maybe you could ask them to credit the room nights but not give him any discount with it. It's worth trying.

Yeah I booked 3 nights at the hotel, but didnt use the code cause I got a cheaper rate without it! I got the rate thru the hotels web site. Its not for the delux room, its for the standard, but I saved a few bucks. Cant I just tell them Im staying there cause of the Expo?
email us your name @ info@cgexpo.com and we'll make sure you have it.
Thanks,
John

I just extended our stay one night. I figure it would be better to say an extra night and drive home-well rested over the course of monday and tuesday, instead of leaving sunday night and trying to be back in Austin, TX by Monday night.
After hearing how some have gotten discounts for booking standard rooms, I decided to question my reservations agent.
Standard rooms are in a six story building with no views and no fridge. The deluxe rooms are in a high-rise for which you can request a view (I have). The rate the agent described to me as available for the standard rooms was $109 plus 9% tax which works out to $118 for Fri/Sat night. For my Fri/Say night I'm paying $124.26 (incl tax) so for that extra $6.26 bucks a night, my son and I get a view and a fridge. I'm not saying this will be worth it to everybody, but I'm looking forward to both.
The "real" discount for booking a standard room hits when you decide to stay that third, non-Fri/Sat night. The hotel's site lists $59 (plus 9% tax) and CGE is getting charged $94 (+9% tax) for a non-Fri/Sat night on the deluxe room. That is a bit of a difference, but if it's the difference between another CGE happening or not, it isn't much of a difference.
If you've booked online and gotten a cheaper rate, I ask you to seriously consider canceling those reservations and upgrade your stay to the CGE rate rooms.
Would one of the organizers let us know how close we are to "filling the hotel?" the website still says we need 45 more CGEJL07 bookings and I'm positive that that's off count by at least one room-night, since I just booked another. ;)
Thanks for your support. As of this morning we're still 39 room nights short! We picked up a few but we also lost a few from 1 or 2 people that cancelled at the last minute (to be expected).
It's so close we can taste it. We're going to post something in a minute about this but thanks for all you've done.
