We never knew Brazilians were genius technicians. When I think of Brazil, all I think of is Futbol fanatics and alot of trees. But according to this video, these two Brazilian guys have figured out how to properly fix their Red Ring of Death. I could only imagine how long it would take to get it fixed by Microsoft’s customer support team. I mean, in America it takes about a week 1/2. For Brazil…I’d say….5 months. -1pStart.com

LOL Nice video. I wish I had tried that on mine. As a side note, my Red Rings of Death seem to have gone away. It was a problem from the moment I bought the console-- never to the point that it'd freeze up during gameplay or stop working entirely, but about 35% of the time I would get the Red Rings while turning it on and have to shut it off and try again. And I'm just too lazy to send mine in for repair (and probably get a worse one back). However, every since I started using my X360 DVD remote to turn on the console (rather than the controller or button on the console) it has gone away entirely. Also, I had been standing it upright for awhile, but once I retired my GC and XBox I had room to lay it flat (I don't think it's natural for the hardware to run while vertical anyways). So I'm not sure which of these saved it, or maybe it just went away on its own, but it's been like 3 or 4 months now since I've seen the rings.

But what exactly did they do to it in the video? It looks like they picked it up, held it vertical, and then put it back down horizontal again. I was kind of expecting the video to show them putting in another heat sink or something.

Your cables are probably not attached properly in the back. Slightly loose cables are a common cause of the "red lights". Turning it on with your remote prevents you from jostling the unit and therefore...no red rings. Nobody who truely has the "red rings of death" has them just go away.

They smacked the bottom of the x-box like the misbehaving child it was about 2 or 3 times then set it back down. I suspect all they did was temporarily reseat the loose connections from the GPU/CPU that seem to be caused by the stresses of the heatsink anchors.

This was my thought also

Thats how I used to fix my CD player in High School. It didn't spin the CD unless you gave it an unholy smack on the bottom, needless to say it stopped working shortly after.

I got a big fat screen lock and flashing reds in January -- let the system sit for a bit (didn't fiddle with the cables) -- all was well for a while.

Died permanently last weekend. So -- left and came back. Nice about the new extend warranty, though -- otherwise i'd actually be mad.
