View Full Version : Any Collector's Of A Specific Game Series / Sub Collection?

I was just wondering if there's anyone else here who collects sub-collections as part of their overall collection? Does anyone else collect any and all games in a particular series, either through default, or purposefully...

Amongst my collection, I have various "Sub collections" which I keep separate and like to collect for. In most cases, I will try and aim for a complete series, as well as every game released for all formats. Example:

* Resident Evil
* Final Fantasy
* Pokemon
* Tony Hawk's
* Grand Theft Auto
* Tomb Raider
* Castlevania
* The Legend Of Zelda

Etc...

Generally though, these are mostly games I would naturally buy and play anyway, but I usually take it a step further by trying to obtain all titles for all formats, rather than just one version of one title, Ie, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 for all formats it was available for.

Amongst my collection, I have also isolated and segregated certain other "Sub collections" belonging to certain groups, but those which I am not generally collecting consciously, but they're simply part of the collection as a whole, such as Sonic or Mario games, or even games of a certain genre such as RPG's or Shmup's...

Another example could be Limited / Collector's Editions. I am a sucker for anything remotely LE, and have a separate collection of various Limited and Collector's Editions for all consoles, which has grown over the years to form an impressive sub-collection in itself. Whilst not originally intended, I found myself often choosing a Limited or Collector's Edition over a standard release, to the point where they built up and evolved into their own separate collection. Now I deliberately seek out various LE's to add to this sub-collection

Plus, for some reason, I have taken an interest in collecting sealed Konami games, to the point where these too have formed their own separate sub-collection

Does anyone else have any strange or interesting collecting habits? Is there anyone else out there who sets themselves personal targets such as obtaining all games for a certain series?

I started to collect Castlevania games 4 years ago. I have always loved the series, I started when I was only 5 years old playing CV1.

I've owned all the "easy" to get console versions, but haven't been able to get the arcade boards and $$$ console versions. The most I spent on a CV game was around $150 for Rondo of Blood.

I also have complete sets of the Legacy of Kain series, and many others as well.

I have only just started to collect Castlevania games, but am only aiming to get some of the newer titles, as these form part of my Konami collection. I feel it is a little beyond my means to seek out some of the older or more obscure titles, especially some of the import games.

I did once buy a friend a sealed copy of Castlevania for the Turbo Duo (Think it was Akumajo Dracula X No Rondo? Does that make sense?), and cost me about £75 ~ The seller wouldn't ship to America, but would ship to the UK, so I did him a favour. I wish I had've kept it now, but at the time, Castlevania and import games didn't really interest me

I also have complete sets of the Legacy of Kain series, and many others as well.

I am also a keen collector of the Legacy Of Kain series as well, and have sealed copies of both the PAL version (Original Black label) and NTSC U version (Again, the original black label release, not the Greatest Hits or "Collector's Edition" white label version) of Blood Omen ~ This is also one of my own sub-collections, and i'm attempting to get hold of the various ports for all consoles (Including the various NTSC U incarnations of Blood Omen and also the various Soul Reaver versions)

When you say "Complete", do you mean you collect every single Legacy Of Kain release (Including rereleases), or do you just mean you have one copy for one console of all the released titles? (Ie, Defiance for Xbox only, not PS2)

I would have to say Mortal Kombat here, I have all the games for all the systems other than any PS2 versions.

Also have all of the Evil Dead games, other than the first one which was on the Commodore 64 as a Cassette tape in 1984. (Would love to find that someday)

Really I dont go out of my way to collect any series "just cause", usualy its because I love the series and want all of the games anyway.

I do have alot of Klonoa games, I am missing 2 imports (the RPG and beach volleyball) but I do have Klonoa1, klonoa2, both gba games, and moonlight museum import (gift box version) for wonderswan.

I would say my main sub-collections are Pokemon, Final Fantasy, and Resident Evil. These are the three most prominent in my collection.

As far as Pokemon is concerned, this has been a fun sub-collection to collect for, especially as there are so many different kinds of Pokemon games out there. I am aiming mostly for a complete UK releases set, and so far I am only missing Crystal, Dash, and Link (That is, until Battle Revolution, Diamond and Pearl are released) ~ I may also add a few import Pokemon games to the collection at a later date, such as the American N64 game "Hey You! Pikachu! I'm currently searching for the Limited Edition GBA SP's (Sapphire & Ruby box sets; Japanese Pikachu edition; Japanese Torchic Orange; Japanese Leaf Green and Fire Red editions etc...)

Resident Evil is one sub-collection that was formed by accident. I enjoy the games, and bought all the PlayStation releases followed by the PS2 games. Then the Remake and Zero on GameCube, and found myself rebuying the other titles for Dreamcast and GameCube. In teh case of teh Dreamcast games, these were bought mainly as I am also aiming for a complete PAL Dreamcast set too. The other GameCube versions were more of an extravagence. I then picked up the Limited Edition Resident Evil 4 GameCube console, and then sought after the Game.Com copy of Resi afterwards. I also bought both the PS2 and GameCube Resi 4 chainsaw controllers which complement the sub-collection nicely!

Final Fantasy has always been a passion of mine though, and another series which kind of formed by accident simply because I already had quite a few of the main series of games. I then later sought after the American copies of the PS2 games (Mainly because of the cover artworks), and soon added the PS2 hard drive along with FFXI to my collection. I then bought a Limited Edition FFII WonderSwan Colour box set, and the collection grew from there! Would have loved the Blue GameBoy Advance Micro to have been released here in the UK though... As with Castlevania though, I think it's beyond me to seek out the NES and SNES FF games. I would love to get hold of the Final Fantasy X2 twin gun peripherals from Japan! My only regret is that I passed up the chance in 1999 to buy the Premium Final Fantasy VIII box set, instead plumping for the standard game for only five Pounds less. Had I known I would later become a serious collector, I would've given it a second thought...

Complete as in Blood Omen on PS1 and PC, Soul Reaver on PS1 and DC, Soul Reaver 2 on PS2, Blood Omen 2 (xbox only), Defiance (xbox only).

I didnt buy blood omen 2 on all platforms because I didn't like it as much, and Defiance I can't find on PS2 anywhere.

The only game that I really go out of my way to have every version of is Thunder Force I, even though there's no big difference between each one. I think it's just for the challenge and the utter obscurity of it. I don't know anybody else who has even one version, let alone all of them. So far I have the FM-7, PC-8001, PC-8801, and IBM JX (missing the box) versions.

I am trying to collect every game in the Bubble Bobble series for all formats. A couple of my better ones include:

Bubble Bobble Part 2 NES Boxed
Bubble Bobble Deluxe Famicom Disk System Complete
Parasol Stars NES Proto
Rainbow Islands NES Proto

Some of them are going to be really tough for me to find. Including the FM Towns Marty versions and MSX versions. Atleast it will be a challenge. If anyone has an unusual Bobble Bobble, Rainbow Island, Parasol Stars or Puzzle Bobble game for trade, please let me know.

Final Fantasy, Megaman, Legend of Zelda, Shining Force, and Lunar.

I also collect RPG's in general- Working Designs, Atlus, Nippon Ichi, and Square titles- I'm now thinking about starting up a Koei collection.

I've got the MSX2 version of Bubble Bobble, but without the box. There's also an X68000 version, but I think that's more common than the FM Towns one. Getting all the home computer ports is going to be a huge pain. I've seen Apple ][ and C64 versions, and I bet there's Spectrum and Amstrad ones as well. If you throw in Parasol Stars and maybe even Chack 'n Pop, that's a whole lotta versions!

Harvest Moon. I've got all except the compilation of the two Wonderful Life titles that came out for the PS2. I also need to the strat guide for (I think) Back to Nature. Other than that, I've got all the titles including all of the River King series since its set in the same world and you can trade with the Harvest Moon farmers. Also have a few preorder bonuses: cow and dog plushies and the keychain for the DS preorder. Most of the games are boxed, but not all. I don't think I'll worry about keeping up with this collection because the series really has become stale. Even the in-game dialog of the most recent titles suggest that they're just more of the same.

I love the metal gear and resident evil series I sub collect those. I was doing final fantasy for a while but then I started to feel like the were starting to pimp the brand and stopped.

I've never really collected by 'series'. I am more of a 'set' collector.

I started like many have with collecting PS1 rpgs. I have collected PS1 longboxes, Working Designs games, and after collecting PS1 rpgs's I moved onto collecting all rpgs'. I've collected Atari Imagic titles, Xbox Tom Clancy titles (there's a bunch), Guncon PS2 games (PS1 eventually), and lamest of all, I actually collected Genesis sports titles when cash was tight...

I think creating subsets is a great way to collect because it helps you keep track of what you have better.

There was a great thread a while back about someone who collected all Megaman games, including imprts, it was very impressive.

Yep, I've got a few of these. Mario, Sonic, Final Fantasy, Resident Evil, Tomb raider, Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat, KOF, Tom Clancy, Metroid, Shining Force (& other Shining games) and Micro Machines just about make up my non-trivial* series completion projects.

*Non-trivial in my eyes= series like Katamari, where there are only, like, 3 games, all of which are heavily promoted and 'hard to miss'.

I've been doing this ever since I started collecting... that's a big part of why my collection is so huge now... I've always bought games in batches of sub collections... most recently I've been doing it with Uno games, and I now own every Uno game ever made for all the systems I currently collect for...

I started my GBA collecting by collecting all the GBA pinball games... then I expanded on it by collecting all the GBA Sonic games, and then beginning to collect all the GBA Sega games... from there I went on to collect all the GBA Hot Wheels games, and finally all the GBA Uno games... I've filled in some gaps by buying individual games here and there as well, but for the most part I tend to focus on subsets that help me to complete other sets... like buying all the racing games that I want and then moving on to yet another genre...

IMO, this is the only way to collect on a large scale... especially if you intend to collect for several different systems at once... then it becomes alot easier to expand the libraries of all your collections by doing this... focusing on just one thing at a time that applies to all your systems... like a certain series or a certain developer or a certain genre... that way you can grow the libraries of all your systems while simultaneously maintaining a sense of progress, accomplishment, and completion... so you don't have all the games you want yet... but you do have all the games you want within a certain set of limits...

I've been meaning to make a post about my collecting habits and how I've accomplished it all, but I guess now I don't need to... this is that post... :)

In the sense of "collecting" I set out to obtain every Working Designs release.
I pretty much have everything including Growlanser Generations regular and Deluxe and Lunar Silver Star Story Complete deluxe and regular "fan edition" (sealed and autographed)

The only thing I would really need for true completeness is Elemental Gearbolt Assassins Case w/ memory card and Gold Guncon - I will have to wait til I die to be lucky enough to come across one :bawling::bawling::bawling: so I will never have "complete" set - I am fail
