I'm a classic computer RPG'er all the way.

I voted classic console myself- back then the meat of the games were the gameplay and the storyline rather then graphics and sounds like most RPGs nowadays seem to aim for.

Like Keir, classic computers all the way for me too. There isn't a single RPG series I enjoy more than the TSR gold box games.

Another one for classic computer RPGs. Ultima IV, Ultima V, Ultima III, Telengard...fork 'em over, baby.

I picked online, seeing as I am now officially addicted to Everquest Online Adventures for the PS2, they will be adding tons of stuff in the future, here is a link to some of it. http://eqoa.crgaming.com/viewarticle.asp?Article=148

I'm surprised that there isn't a "with free Fruit Roll-Ups" option.

Anyway, I voted for modern console RPGs, partly because I don't think too many others will favor it on a classic gaming message board, and partly because I've really enjoyed the RPGs of the last half-decade. I think that they, along with some recent PC RPGs, have done a lot to improve upon the repetition and lack of drive that often infests older RPGs.

Now somebody should vote for modern PC RPGs. Poor Fallout and Planescape: Torment will think that no one likes them.

I picked Classic Console. I like simple straight combat. No Time Attack, no crystal fusions with my character's weapons, no cinematics that take forever. There also seemed to be more of a push towards globe trotting more then than now from some of the more "modern" games that I played (Final Fantasy 7 & 8). The only down side of the classic console are the random attacks, but ya learn to live with them.

I picked Modern Console.

Really the 16 bitters were just prettier/better sounding 8 bitters. So any RPG on an * bit system would of course have been better on a 16 bit machine.

But I REALLY enjoy the simple rules system of them and the "cute-ness" factor. NOTHING in AD&D/Ultima/Etc was EVER cute. Where'd you go for Chocobos, Jogurts, and white fluffy things that could supposedly way laste to an entire civilization according to one magazine ad I saw back in the day.

But the cliche they all had, was just so much fun.

Plus ya gotta love semi SD style art!

Tough question... um ... how about books & dice? :D

Actually, I've played a reasonable number of Classic PC and Classic Console RPG's and like them about the same amount. Each type seems to have some things that the others lack and vice versa.

I like them all but my fav would be console. But I still play the classics and love to get a comp RPG. Most time spent on the console RPG's.

I voted for the Classic console RPG's. Shining Force is one of my favourite series. I also enjoy the classic computer RPG's that were ported to the Nes (Bards Tale, Pool of Radiance)

I picked classic console as well. I've been playing RPG's since I was about 13 and I still like the old SNES RPG's more than anything else. My favorite is the Lufia series.

I like mine ASCII and simplistic in plot. Nethack 4eva biatch. And don't get me started on Squaresoft again, for the love of god. ;-)

I love old-school computer RPGs, and new-school console RPGs (especially with the recent surge in the quality of Japanese-to-English translations). I also waffle back and forth between preferring turn-based and real-time combat; thanks to The Wind Waker and Dark Cloud 2, I'm currently all about the latter.

I never played any the old classic computer RPGs myself.

The RPGs that came out for the Super NES has always been my favorite. I loved being able to go wherever I wanted in the world in games like Secret of Mana, Final Fantasy III, and Chrono Trigger. Plus, they were involved enought that there was room for individualism but they weren't so big that it was confusing. The character growth was plain and simple - if you used them they got better.

Just for the record, Fallout and Fallout 2 are (as one entity) my favorite RPGs ever, absolutely and fully. They are total masterpieces, and anyone who hasn't experienced them NEEDS to (especially since you can pick them up in one box for $10!).

They're funny, it's a unique setting (Shhh! I know about Wasteland! hehe), they're mature, they're epic, they offer the perfect mix between linear, quick gameplay (Fallout 1) and the long, freeform world to explore (Fallout 2).... AhaahhaaAHSdah ***Pops from liking Fallout too much***

Damndably good games, damndably good.
