With that deal that CC has going on where you buy GH2 for the 360 and get a free 1600 MS point card, I'm giving this one serious consideration. I'm stuck, though. Even at $70, is it really worth it?

I think its a million times better than the first. I have the 360 version and think the extra 10 bucks is worth it for achievements and leaderboards. The CC deal is just icing on the cake.

I saw the same deal and it seems pretty good actually. I do, however, fully disagree with Drexel. I rented it but didnt buy it solely on the lackluster tracklist. After the first one, I guess my hopes were a little too high. The 80s add-on, however, seems pretty interesting, as does GH III and Rock Band....

Thanks for some reason, I never saw that ad when I checked out this site yesterday.

I like the tracklist on GH2, but some of the vocals are just horrible. I think GH1 plays a little better also.

GH2 plays Institutionalized by Suicidal Tendencies, old old west coast punk song. It's friggin cool when my nephew rocks out to that!!

Not to buy.
If I wanted to feel like a rockstar I'd rather learn the real thing, than learn something that won't actually help me get any real skills.

Meh, I know I'm not getting any real skills by playing this. I wouldn't learn how to dance by playing DDR, either. I'm just looking for fun factor here.

Hardly! Hammer ons a pull offs are downright broken in GH1 and they work flawlessly in GH2, that difference in gameplay alone makes it the far superior title (of the two). There are some shitty tracks in GH2, but no more than there were in GH1, proportionately.
Definitely snag it, it's great.
Not to buy.

You SUCK!
It's like your brain was trying so desperately to take a giant shit it couldn't find it's release anywhere else than at your fingertips when you typed that.
If you can't figure out why that argument makes you look like a giant retard, I sincerely hope you are never in charge of the lives of others, cause they'd be proper fucked.

It's a videogame.. You play it. Sure it's based on the guitar, but don't confuse it with playing a real instrument.
Do you avoid playing R-Type because it doesn't teach you really how to pilot a spaceship? Or Street Fighter because it doesn't really teach you how to fight? LOL
It's a VIDEO GAME :p

So are you looking to get the XBOX 360 version? cause Rock the 80's hasn't ben announced for the 360 yet as far as I know.

I can only speak for the PS2 version, but I couldn't put it down for weeks while I unlocked everything, and the replay value with multiplayer is great.

Woops, forget to say specifically that Rock the 80s was PS2 only :) Now that its been menitoned, I do agree that the overall play mechanics were definitely improved in part 2 and thus it plays very well. I, however, still dont like the track listing and I fully agree with a previous post that there are even more worse vocals in part 2 than the original. Like I said though, I like the track listing for Rock the 80s so I will probably get it. As for GH 3 and Rock Band, itll all come down to the final track listings for me....

Guitar Hero II is the best party game released in this generation and the previous generation (yes, best party game despite being only 2-players simultaneous). Not only that, it has almost single-handedly brought the music genre into the mainstream. It's an excellent and highly-addictive game and you'll get all $70 worth out of it. Anyone who bashes the game probably hasn't put enough time into it to know what they're talking about. (Playing one song at a GameStop kiosk doesn't count. The game takes an hour or so to learn, and weeks to master; so someone who played it for 15 minutes doesn't know what they're talking about. I was skeptical myself because I'm not much of a fan of the music genre, but after a couple hours I was completely sold. There's a reason for all the extremely high review scores the game has gotten.) The advantage of the PS2 version is that you can buy Guitar Hero 1 and the exclusive 80s version, and still use the GH2 guitar with them. But GH3 will likely be the end of the line for the PS2, so the advantage of the X360 version is longevity... so you won't have to buy the expensive guitar package again. Plus all the online feature, online play, and downloadable songs (although at the expensive prices they are currently charging for these, I don't know if it's really much of an advantage).

The 360 version has Alice Cooper. You must buy two.
But seriously, if you've got a PS2, try to find the PS2 version of GH1 and pick up 80s while you're at it. Then pick up a used GH2 360 when GH3 and Rock Band come out. The guitars for those games look promising, and the GH2 360 guitar is a step down from the first PS2 guitar. I can't stand tilting my guitar to go into star power, so I used the select button on the PS2 GH1. That's effectively not an option on the current 360 guitar.

Gh is worth buying. All of the GH games are. But if you have a PS2, Just buy one guitar hero controller (Or 2 if you can find them in gamestop with working whammy bars) And buy GH1 and GH: 80s. Then buy GH2 for the 360.

I couldn't have said it better. When I first played it, I didn't know how to play. But as time passed, I got better and now I can get halfway through jordan on expert.

Even if you have GHII on PS2, I'd still suggest buying the 360 version. The 10 new songs are all a blast to play, plus the leaderboards and achievements add a lot to the game.
Is it officially confirmed that 360 won't be getting the 80's game? Why would Activision do that?

As you can tell by my sig I took the plunge and picked it up. That CC deal was jus too good to pass up for me and I was proud of myself for getting my fiancee $100 off her new phone today after spending the better part of an hour on customer service negotiating. Anyways, I'm having a blast with the game. I also typed in one of the codes to play around with some of the later songs, but I can't get through Trogdor because I simply can't stop laughing LOL.
My only issue is the one I've always had: that the room gets all wavy every time I look away. I have to break every few songs or I'll go crazy.
