Rockstar Games announces Bully: Scholarship Edition for the Xbox 360™ and Wii™

New York, NY - July 19, 2007 - Rockstar Games is proud to announce that Bully: Scholarship Edition is coming to the Xbox 360™ video game and entertainment system from Microsoft and the Wii™ home video game system from Nintendo this Winter.

Both the Wii and Xbox 360 versions will retain the wit and deep gameplay of the previously released PlayStation®2 computer entertainment system title and will boast additional new content. Bully: Scholarship Edition takes place in the fictional New England boarding school of Bullworth Academy, and tells the story of 15-year-old Jimmy Hopkins as he experiences the highs and lows of adjusting to a new school. Capturing the hilarity and awkwardness of adolescence perfectly, Bully: Scholarship Edition pulls the player into its cinematic and engrossing world. Universally acclaimed upon first release, Bully: Scholarship Edition is a genre-crossing action game with a warmth and pathos that is unrivaled.

Bully received a perfect "10/10" from Electronic Gaming Monthly and 1up.com and was heralded as "a great, well-crafted action game that has one of the best senses of humor around" by IGN.com. USA Today called it "a fantastic debut title by Rockstar Vancouver." The San Francisco Chronicle wrote "Bully has no shortage of creative energy, offering an immersive boarding school experience that is imaginative, funny and filled with surprises."

Come and explore the zealous joy, mirth, and torment of youth with Jimmy Hopkins and Bully: Scholarship Edition when enrollment commences this Winter.

Great news. I still don't have a PS2, and I really wanted to play this.

It's really a fun game. It shouldn't be overlooked.

I wonder if they'll bring out a sort of LE package like they did on the PS2? I might have to re-buy.

I'll get it. I didn't bother before because it was on the PS2 and I don't usually like firing up that system :) Can't wait!

Ditto.

Looks like I've finally got something other than SSBB to look forward to on Wii.

This will be good. I was going to get the PS2 version, But now I don't need to. (I wonder how the graphics will look on the 360?)

Now that'd be rich. I am looking forward to the swing shot mechanics. Possibly you'd hold the wii mote vertically then drag the nunchuck towards you from the wii mote then release a button (dont know what conrols overall would be like so it could be any kind possible button). Either way I will go out of my way to see what the wii version is like. I played the shit out of the PS2 on and was near 95+% complete hehe

(if theres an LE i hope theres another dodgeball, it was a fucking sweet extra)

I'd like to see it on the 360 but its gunna be tough paying $60 for a title thats $20 on ps2. Might have to wait a bit.

True. I never did play this on PS2 but I wanted to so this is a surprise. Still, $60 is way too much. I'm all for them porting older games to the 360 with achievements and whatnot, but the price should reflect the fact that all they did was port an "old" PS2 title. 29.99 or even 24.99 would have been a better pricepoint for the 360 version.

It will probably be $20, because you figure the PS2 version is $20, and since most next gen titles are $10 more on the ps3 and 360 than say if they are on the ps2 when they are first released.

If its anything more than $30, unless it has vastly updated visuals, then its way overpriced. Then again I never played the game so maybe it is worth $60....but I doubt it.

I recall there being a fair amount of semi-negative publicity for this prior to its PS2 release, and then it just went away. Criminally underrated game IMO.

Where do the hell do you people see Bully for $20 in stores? Everytime I go to Best Buy, Gamecrazy, Gamestop, etc., they still have it at the $40 price...

I don't keep tabs on other stores like I used to I just know what we sell it for in our stores. It could be $40 title but even if it is it has been out along time how far away from "greatest hits" status can it be? .

I agree. This was one of my favorites on PS2. I will definitely be getting the 360 version, no hesitation.

Very cool. I've had Bully sitting on my Amazon.com "Wish List" for months now, but just never got around to buying it. So I guess putting it off for a few more months and getting a next-gen version will be worth it.

I've seen people discussing the current $40 price at GameStop-- if anyone is looking for the PS2 version, it goes for $30 new and shipped on Amazon or <$25 used and shipped. Of course, there's eBay too, but I know not everyone is a fan of dealing with that.

Well I can only give information regarding Australian sales but from what Ive seen figures wise
Canis Canem Edit had very underwhelming sales, it was a slow mover for the
company's that I deal with.

Although it still being sold at a full premium price point may not be helping te situation ;)

Good news though. This is a pretty fun game, up-port can only be a good thing...usually.

I picked this up for the 360 yesterday and am having a blast so far. I reluctantly held off buying the PS2 version when it was released, but am now glad I did.

The graphics are solid and the open world seems like there is a lot to do. The "classroom" mini games are clever and challenging so far. Overall it's a lot of fun. One thing that I really like are the detailed statistics. I love open world games with tons of statistics. Bully tracks almost every single thing you can do. Pretty cool.

Anyone play the Wii version? Is it worth it, or does the 360 kill it?. I'm sure the 360 is better, but all I have is a Wii.

So far, the Xbox 360 version has received an 8.3 overall and the Wii version has received an 8.7 overall.

I remember finally getting around to cracking open my copy of the PS2 version, only to have this update announced a few days later. Ah well, the game is really enjoyable, and I'm looking forward to picking up a copy of the 360 version when I can get it for around $30 or so.

Anyone having the freezing issue with the 360 version I've been reading about today?

RARusk

I've had it crash on me twice today.

A lot of X360 owners are having problems with it crashing. Kotaku reported that Rockstar is aware of the problems and are trying to fix them. I don't know if there will be a downloadable patch or that you may have to swap out discs.

So, if you have a X360 version, save OFTEN so you don't have to backtrack as much if the game spazzes out on you.

Yea, the lack of autosave after successful missions is a total pain in the ass. I thankfully haven't had any freezes but the audio starts skipping when I go near the principals office.

I would think the days of swapping "defective" discs are long over for 360 and PS3 games. A downloadable patch would be more than sufficient.

I haven't had any problems so far (knock on wood of course). I've put in around 5 hours or so. Two decades of playing RPG's and 2 years of playing freeze-prone 360 games have taught me to save often. Luckily, it sounds like Rockstar has an autosave feature integrated into GTAIV after every mission.

Upon reading the official response over at Kotaku.com It's pretty clear that this is only affecting older 360's. It's a problem that I know all too well. I had trouble playing certain parts of Dead Rising and Just Cause with my old (Jan 2006) 360. I had to use my "new" 360 I had stored away (I later sold that new 360 to a friend...my old 360 was put to rest by MS last summer). Most likely I haven't experienced any problems because I use a July 2007 manufactured Elite 360. It's all becoming clear.

Question for all: Which version is more preferable; Wii or X360? I saw earlier in this thread that the Wii has surprisingly rated higher than the X360 version; does anyone know why this is? I was just wondering if I should just get it for the Wii that I now have or the X360 which I will obtain later (how much later is still ambiguous).

The "freezing issue" has stung me a few times this weekend. Luckily I've been saving whenever I can and I've only lost 10-15 minutes at a time. Rockstar says they'll have a patch out this week. Hopefully it works.

Other than the occasional freezing (my game has locked up 3 times in 14+ hours), Bully is a lot of fun. It's definitely one of the better open world games I've played on the 360. It's obvious Rockstar are masters of this genre.

My guess would be the minigames.

I've been playing the heck out of this since Friday and it's a great title. The audio choppiness seemed to happen most at the beginning of the game - hasn't happened in awhile now.

But it did lock twice on me - once when I got hit by a stink bomb and another when I first started doing some spraypainting... both have smoke effects?

Waiting for the patch :D

Started playing this weekend and I love it. No problems with freezing... until Chapter 4. I've had it freeze twice in about 10 minutes on this chapter. I might just wait for a patch until I progress further...

Actually, not everyone has their 360 or PS3 connected to the Internet. I know I don't most of the time and I would rather have a replacement disc so I have something I can pop in and play 10 years from now when Xbox live is no longer accessible on whatever other console I happen to own a decade from now.

My game was mostly "lock-up free" until the end of Chapter 5. The game locked up on me THREE TIMES during the final mission. I had to play it over 4 times because of this. Very annoying.

On the positive side, Bully is an easy 1000 achievement points and you have a hell of a lot of fun getting there. Overall it's a great game...and is the type of game the 360 desperately needs. Compare Bully's good natured charm with something like Saint's Row with it's tough-guy gangsta bullshit. Even GTA has a sense of humor.

In short: I recommend this game to everyone. It's a nice warm-up to GTAIV.

Very true. I'd rather have "fixed" disc than a downloadable patch any day. On the other hand, 10 years from now, 360 games will be nothing more than memories. No 360 will still work and backwards compatibility is something that died in 2007. The Xbox 360 will be remembered for being the "lost" console...millions of games sitting around, but no functioning units to play them. At least until PC's can emulate 360 games.

Finished this 100% tonight. This is the type of game that I'm happy and sad to finish. Happy because any game that takes 20+ hours is nice to finally finish off, and sad because it was so good I wish it wouldn't have ended. I'm definitely ready for GTA IV now. 40 days as of this post to go. :(

I love the open-world genre.
