I no longer have this.... I think someone stole it from me... but it was once the crowning jewel of my collection. Tecmo Super Bowl is a R1.... but trust me, I loved this copy more than any of the few R8 games I have in my library. So I'm interested to hear what value someone else would put on this, considering that a normal loose copy of TSB on eBay goes for about $20.
For all the crappiness of the "toaster" NES, it finally came in handy once for me... it started screwing up right in the middle of game of TSB and eventually the game became unplayable because I couldn't tell what the hell was going on on-screen with all the scrambling of the picture. Well, TSB has a battery backup, so when I turned it off it saved the game. Next time I turned on the game, EVERYONE on EVERY ROSTER was the starting QB. So, in other words, if you played as the 49ers your roster would be: QB- Joe Montana; RB- Montana; WRs- all Montana; TE- Montana, KR/PR- Montana; and all subs would be Montana too (unfortunately Joe took a seat on defense). There is nothing cooler than seeing a TSB touchdown animation of Joe Montana to Joe Montana (even cooler is the part where the QB lifts the WR to celebrate... considering that it's Joe Montana lifting Joe Montana). And it wasn't just the 49ers... the starting QBs took over every team.
I realize it's more of a novelty than anything (a very cool novelty though), but I was still curious what value this would add to the game for you... even if it was very slight. (I know we're not talking any more than small values here.) If I did still own this I would never sell it because, as I mentioned, this really was the crowning jewel for me in my collection. Being such a huge TSB since I was a kid and still today, it was just way cooler than my ho-hum complete copy of Panzer Dragoon Saga that thousands of other people have too. But, I've been missing this TSB game for about 2 years now... I was holding out hope, but after finally cleaning my game room last week and not finding it, it is officially MIA.
