Today I retired my trusty GBA from my daily arsenal in favor of my iPod, for the sake of trimming down the load in my gadget bag. Now I realize that the two certainly aren't in the same league, but when my mobile gaming consists of 5-10 minutes here and there between classes or appointments, the iPod and its small but growing library of casual games is plenty.

Is anyone else in the same situation, or even considering it? I've got most of the games and would be happy to answer some questions. Also, the current iPod was not designed with gaming in mind, hence a few less-than-ideal control schemes, but I imagine that the next 'pod will take that into consideration. Some of the current control schemes are ingenious, though, using the touch sensitive wheel in ways I didn't know were possible. Pretty cool.

EA has released a surprising number of iPod games and I think that's a good start for Apple. If they see money, who knows what'll happen next. Unlike Apple's previous attempt at the games market, this hasn't been a big push for them and it is slowly gaining momentum on its own.

Ass.

I think the next generation iPod will have an iPhone-like touch screen, so you'll probably have more DS-like games. Of course, I don't know how they're going to work backwards compatibility with the games for the 5th gen version. Have you played the Lost game? Is it any good?

Realize that the iPhone cant use a stylus, so some of the precise games of the DS cant be done ;) And yes, I own an iPhone lol.

Yes, I've played it. Yes, it's good. No, it's not any good. Confused yet?

The good: the game's graphics are nice, reminiscent of 90's PC adventure games, the controls are pretty intuitive, and there's a fairly interesting storyline. The problem? It's about an hour long. That's a problem for an yadventure game being played on the run ... it has no replay value. At all.

I'm not a fan of Lost, so that may change someone's perspective, but the game doesn't rate very high on my list. If you like Lost, and want a $5.00 interactive story that you can play through over the course of an hour, though, go for it.
