Anyone have trouble bringing games through security at an airport?
I've done it in the past, but airport security is supposed to be more detailed now.

Maybe a LYNX would look to much like a bomb threat.

Last year when my wife and I went to Vegas our DS's went through fine. If anything they'll probably have you turn it on to show it's really a functioning electronic device.

Thanks.

The Lynx will be in my carry-on, as well as a few things for sale/trade. :)
Unless someone else had a bad experience......

That's going to be fun with the Brown Box. I contacted the TSA several months ago about this and they said I shouldn't have a problem. We'll see!

I've flown around the US many times with a PSP and to Europe with an NES SP without an issue. You shouldn't have any problems.

I carried ds,gba, psp a whole mess of games with no problems.
The only game system that didn't make it through and got confiscated was the game.com:)

They said they were doing me a favor and that it was a matter of national security.

Generally the TSA will make you turn on a laptop if you have one, but any other electronic devices they just x-ray. I've gone through with a backpack full of toys (DS, PSP, GBA, IPod(s), etc) with no issues before. Even coming back from the last CGE with a PS1, Supergrafx, Famicom, Lynx, and a ton of cart and disk games in my bag, they had no issues.

I had my ps2 in a carryon once a long time ago and they did a search of the bag but after confirming that it was a ps2 and all the cords were for it there were no problems.

I carried a massive pile of NES games in my carry-on coming home from NYC a year ago. Didn't have any problems.
When I was telling the customs officer what I bought in NYC, she freaked out.

I've never had a problem with games or other electronic devices. I always, however, have a lot of fun explaining my metal teeth (I have a fairly sizeable dental implant, and I can't remove it, no matter how much they'd like me to). I guess they think I'm the ToothBomber or something.

I could just see it now: PDF standing at the front of the plane, a bunch of wires running from his mouth to a trigger stick in his hand. He waves the stick above his head and screams:

"immmm gnckna blaaaa de pang uck!"

The terror.... :D

Never had an issue with anything through security aside from one guy wanting to see what the electronic lozenge was (it was a C64GS console!) in his viewfinder LOL

I've flown to and from CGE in 2002 and 2003 (post-9/11) with carts, systems, etc. in my carry-ons. Nary a peep. (Though I did mention them to the X-ray tech, and I was wearing a vidgame-related shirt at the time.)

True story: Took a Vectrex and Multicart for the 2003 auction (no bids). Didn't want to chance it in luggage, so I stuck it in my carry-on case. Damn thing was so large, it filled it and was the ONLY item in my carry-on. Was busy fiddling with my shoes, so my suitcase rolled through without me there and the line stopped while they tried to figure out who sent the TV set through the x-ray.

When I finally got through, they had the case open and were staring at the Vectrex. The guy in charge said, I quote, "Holy shit! I had one of these in the 80s!" He got to talking with me about the Veccy and the fact that CGE had just ended. He was more pissed that a classic game con has been in town and he had missed it!

In 1989, I travelled to BC from Montreal with 10 NES games, my system and a zapper. They made me take it out and shoot a duck to show it was a light gun.

Since then, they don't care. They swipe it with an explosive detecting rag, and you have to put it through the scanner on its own so keep it easy access. Sometimes you have to turn it on too.

Don't worry about it!

I'll be putting the security allowances to the test this trip. I'm bringing one of the MACS rifles with me on the plane. For those that don't know, it's a decommisioned AP-74 (basically an M16 replica, size and shape are nearly exact) that's been converted to work as a light gun trainer for the SNES. I'm sure I'll get a ton of looks when I crack that open at the check in counter!

After that, I'm looking forward to walking through the casino floor with a (very obvious) gun case in my hand. Should make them equally twitchy about me being there!

(anybody out there willing to bail me out of the vegas jail??) :)

I had a modded xbox in my luggage the summer after 9/11, went from NY to Florida (and back of course), no issues at all.

Perhaps security will think you're one of the wise guys who "work" there. :) Now, if your gun was in a violin case then they might be worried!

It's actually no big deal. It's more stringent in Europe. I took my XBOX with me with some games and all the wires in my carry on luggage and in Europe they always want to open it up and check it whereas they don't do it here in the States when it goes through X-ray.

long story Short I was on a "watch List" back in 2003 till about 2006 at all U.S airports.
why Xbox carry on passed it trought x-rays they pulled me aside and ask me what it was and so on.....
they swabed it with a rag and found "residue" not on the xbox but on my bag
what kind or "residue" they wouldn't tell me.
The Point is they took all my info and made sign a paper or else I couldn't fly that day.
From then on I was Not allowed to use Self-Service Check-In machines at the airports.

The
Good news I flew this past march and had no problems. Maybe their
"watch List" expires

Going home through the Vegas airport was fast, and very easy. But DFW (Dallas/Ft. Worth) was incredibly slow. Every person at security had to look at my Lynx, and gave it the "swab" test. While they were doing that, I asked them if anyone knew that Atari used to make game systems, and they all said "No." I powered up the Lynx, and they seemed to enjoy it, but kept quiet. :)

I had no problems with games going through security, even though theyw ere packed in my bag.
but what is this about taking off your shoes to go through the metal detector.
I did that leaving chicago and vegas. weird. I do understand that it might be possible to hide something there.

One of my checked bags got searched. I found out they searched it only after I got home and opened it up to see everything re-arranged. They left me a piece of paper in the bag saying they searched the bag. All the games I had in there were fine but nothing was put back together correctly. Games and instructions were all mixed up. Everything was in good shape, so no complaints.

I don't watch TV at all but this was a huge story. You'd have to try hard to miss it. It seems whenever the talk about airport security they bring it up.

Both of my check-ins were inspected on my way home - a box of books and my suitcase.

Strangely enough, the Brown Box, which I was carrying on the plane, wasn't personally searched in Las Vegas, on my way home, as it had been in Newark on my way there. I didn't realize it, but I had put Intellivision buttons in my carry-on along with the Brown Box. They got past security.

I'm happy to say that boxes of all the new games that I bought survived the trip home. This is a first!

I haven't had any problems, but the guy at the luggage x-ray passed mine through the machine a few times, probably trying to figure out what the hell everything was XD
