Out of all the systems out there, which would you say is hardest to find games that come complete in their original boxes with instructions and all? take into account ebay as well, not just in the wild.

Now I dont know all of the systems in terms of difficulty of collecting, but I would probably say that 3DO is one of the harder systems to get games boxed with instructions. Not only that but finding boxed 3DO games in the wild is very very rare (I have yet to see any). The boxes are so huge that people often find it easier to store the games with just the jewel case they come with, and also the cardboard boxes are easily damaged unless taken care of. thats why on ebay so many 3do auctions are all jewel case only. I have 60 complete 3DO games only because a couple of years ago I won an auction for like 50 complete games.

So what other systems do you find to be hard to collect CIB for?

I think any variation of the GameBoy wins this hands down

Gameboy is tough. Atari is the most expensive and probably the hardest to get complete. SNES is pretty tough as there are lots of rares and so many titles. I would say atari wins out, though.

Turbo grafx 16. They came in CD Jewels inside an outer cardboard box. Similar to the 3do thing. Most people would either just keep the chip, or the CD case. Most of the outer cardboard boxes were discarded. On thop of that the outer boxes are kinda flimsy and get damaged easily. TurboCD games were the same way and those boxes seem even harder to come by.

Hey, I've seen a few CIB 3DO games around here. Are you saying they're worth something substantial?

hands down. The fact that most of the boxes were sealed shut with glue made it very easy to destroy them just by opening them. The fact is that with 3do and TG16, you can still find most games sealed or mint on Ebay for fairly cheap. Lots of 3do games had cardboard box cases rather than jewel cases, or very sturdy boxes with a jewel case inside. As such, I think most users kept them intact. In the wild, it's a different story, but I have yet to find most Colecovision games CIB even on Ebay.

Game Boy would be one of the hardest, along with Nintendo 64 and Atari 2600

Vectrex games w/ box, instructions, and the overlay in decent condition are pretty tough.

I collect 3DO and getting the boxes for all but a handful of games is not that difficult.

I see shit tons of N64 CIB or at least boxed. I have a bunch of 3DO boxed cuz I saved them when I was a kid. I can find common boxed atari occasionally. The hardest thing for me to find CIB is colecovision. I don't think I've ever seen any in the wild. But I will agree with gameboy though, I had one box for Aria of Sorrow, what the hell happened to it? I don't know but its definately not in my house anymore. The game still is but not the box.

nah the 3DO is pretty easy, im only missing a few boxes to make my collection complete, and one of those is a $60+ game ... grrr

Colecovision seemed to be the hardest for me (even Ecoleco or whatever its called F'ed me over, took my money and sent no boxed games), i have yet to get a boxed copy of any coleco game, hell i have one boxed Coleco Telstar Arcade game but no colecovision :)

I'd probably say Gamboy too, but would not rule out the Game Gear though.

How hard is the Neo Geo? I know in the arcade scene it's not terribly hard to find a complete kit (just rather expensive in many cases).

wow, maybe I should re-think what to do with that largish box full of boxed colecovision games that has just been sitting in the basement. Condition is a problem though... the games were always kept in the boxes, so all the rummaging and opening/closing really took its toll. I'd consider most to be in 'poor' condition. Not really torn, but heavily worn to white on pretty much all edges.

ColecoVision and Game Boy (two systems I collect for) are both very tough.

Regarding Atari 2600...just like any system, it's tough to find some stuff CIB, but Atari games were produced in such large quantities (as with NES) that most stuff can be found reasonably easily (as long as you're willing to pay). Coleco stuff was produced in much smaller quantities and they're just isn't anywhere near as much boxed and/or sealed stuff out there.

With Atari 2600, the stuff is out there if you're willing to pay. With ColecoVision, it's not a question of paying...some stuff you just can't find at any price.

In the wild, it's a different story, but I have yet to find most Colecovision games CIB even on Ebay.
Exactly...I've often had to wait six months or a year just for CIB copies of certain games to pop up on eBay just so I could bid on one.

NES.
many US collectors here have almost complete NES collections, unboxed and without instructions.

PDorr3 I see you live in Long Island, have you checked out multimedia 1.0 on St. Marks street in east village? I remember looking at 3do games that were in the cardboard boxes, but I didnt open them to see if they had instructions.

I have never seen a complete Game Gear game, minus the one I own. Turbografx games are nigh impossible to find CIB.

RDI Halcyon games? I've seen a few boxed Colecovision games before, and I do see my fair share of Gameboy boxes and such(though i know its hard to do). I would think that 2600, NES, SNES, Game Gear and Gameboy would be the tops. Game Gear I rarely see boxes, which is part of the reason I ever regret selling some of mine.

I'll tell you what, The Atari 5200 Rares are slim pick'ens for sure. Zaxxon, Star Wars Arcade "MINT" in the box? Good luck!

ColecoVision ofcourse, Real tuff to get Tapper and a few others Mint CIB.

Handhelds games that came in cardboard boxes!? F that! Takes FOOORR.. EVVVVEEEERRR... period and buttload of $$$$$

I would also say, beleave it or not, Intellivision! Not the commons, but some of the rarer shit is tuff!

I'm gonna say the fairchild channel F. but I have nothing to back that up with. It's just so old!

Probably the original Game Boy. There were a lot, LOT of games for it, and they almost all went exclusively to little kids who didn't keep the boxes cause it was a portable system. There isn't anything portable about a carboard box.

I second the Vectrex. I haven't seen one since 1984. AND I WANT ONE!! ;)

But I probably can't afford it, if I did find one.

Colecovision and Atari 5200 shit is impossible to find (where I live).

i dont collect for the gameboy, i only have 1 game for it and its play action football .. lol ... i used to have tetris but i have no clue where that went

ive seen more boxed gameboy games at the local trade center and ive never seen a boxed Colecovision game in person since 1984 when i saw my uncles system
even my buddy down the street didnt have any Coleco boxes, he must have thrown the boxes out as soon as he got the games
ahh the memories of playing Tutankhamun for days on end :-)

heh Channel F - my 4th grade teacher had this system in our classroom closet with 5 boxed games, and would never hook it up, instead she had a box of comics to read for rainy days - 99% were archie and jughead also a few disney

it's impossible to even find a LIST of all the atari 2600 games ever released. you would never be able to get all of them let alone CIB
