PlayStation 3 owners are getting a couple of new toys this week. The official Sony blog has announced that the US will see firmware update 1.90 within the next few days. Gamasutra has further details on the patch, which includes a number of functionality improvements: "Ability to rearrange games on the XMB, Option menu now includes 'eject disk', Press triangle to eject games/CDs/movies in the XMB, XMB backgrounds, Change the folder classification, Emoticons, Change CD output to 44.1/88.2/176.4kHz, Force 24Hz output for Blu-ray over HDMI, Change PS3 video settings in-game, 'Bit Mapping' in the 'Music Setting', Save AVCHD type animations from a Memory Stick, Change settings like upscaling while playing PS and PS2 games, Add bookmarks, Web browser security function in the browser's tool section." Indications are also that a demo for Heavenly Sword will be coming soon. Europe is getting it this Thursday, with no firm word on a US date yet.Read more of this story (http://games.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=07/07/23/2146211&from=rss) at Slashdot.

To me Heavenly Sword looks like a God of War clone with a female protagonist instead of a male one. Her main weapon is even identical (blades on chains). Still, I'm eager for the demo to prove me wrong.

What the heck is wrong with a God of War clone with vastly superior graphics and more enemies on the screen with a scantily clad woman kicking butt? I hope the demo proves you right...

Anyways I keep hoping to see updates that I did not know I needed. I think the PS1 + PS2 games could be scaled better -- they are a little blurry.

Those of us in the US can just set up a european account :)

Also, regarding the comparisons to God of War, it seems like the only similarities are in the screenshots. Apparently the gameplay is a hell of a lot different, but I guess we'll all be able to see for ourselves in a few more days :)

There was one, but it died off due to the lack of releases.

anyone tried the heavenly sword demo yet? I heard its dissapointing in the fact that its extremely short, like 3 minute short. I havent DLed it yet but I might tonight. I am sure the actualy full game though will be alot better, sure the demo is short but anyone that judges a game based off of such a short time with the game probably arent getting the full picture.

it was like, the very same thing shown at E3 last year. Yes, really short.

The demo is short, but gives you a nice taste of the combat mechanics. Like I said before, the game essentially feels like a next-gen God of War with a hotty instead of Kratos. This isn't a slam, the game certainly looks impressive. I'm sure it's a genuine A-list title. It's just that this style of game isn't my thing (God of War, Devil May Cry, Ninja Gaiden, etc.). I don't think I'll be picking this one up until it goes cheap.

[grain of salt] I retract my previous statement the game is pretty cool. Controls are just alot more complicated than I anticipated. The demo is way fuckin short, but gives an impression of what to expect. Hope they get the AI and difficulty right on this one cause it is gonna be very important for the way the game plays.

Kinda like Ikaruga with blocking. One stance to block blue, one stance to block orange. The combo meter also is a nice touch as is the launching someone in air or doing other moves with the sixaxis.

This game is gonna be good, but Sony needs to get the damn rumble controller out cause this game CRIES for rumble. More blood/gore would also be nice and take it to that "awesome" area.

I am pretty impressed, this game is not exactly like god of war, it's more complicated and not as casual or you could say it's not as intuitive, that's up to personal opinion I guess. Now if only I can figure out how to effectively use block breakers before I actually beat the demo "don't get much time", lol.....:/[/grain of salt]

UPDATE "GAMEBREAKER ALERT": THE AI NEEDS SERIOUS FUCKING TWEAKING OR THE COUNTERS/MOVES DO. I JUST BEAT THE WHOLE DEMO BY STAYING STILL AND PRESSING THE COUNTER BUTTON AND GAINING STYLEPOINTS THIS WAY. LAAAAAAAME.....

Take my statements above the update with a grain of salt. I thought that was what they were doing with the game, but it seems you don't even have to hold a block button to block...just stand there and then hit square to max your stylepoints very quickly and devastate everything with one button.
