If you're like me, you wait around about a year or two after a game's released to pick it up at a fraction of the cost: simply put, I have a couple of hundred games on my want list, so I always have time to grab the game later. I'll always have cheaper games to get. I rarely buy expensive games in general for this simple reason: Radiant Silvergun: 170ish. I can knock off at least 20 games from my want list with 170 bucks. The last game I bought new was Resident Evil 4: for the Gamecube. However, the day Super Smash Brothers Brawl comes out, I'm grabbing it. Also, I *might* do it for the Godzilla Wii game. I'm a bit of a Godzilla nut, so I just might have to.

I don't buy anything new unless I absolutely MUST HAVE/NEED the game. Bioshock and Mercenaries 2 as an example will be day one buys. Anything that I feel purchase worthy, but do not NEED I will wait until I can find it cheap enough, and that is usually a few months after the game comes out. An example here would be Heavenly Sword. I will buy it and if it ends up not being what I expect I'll sell it off, either at a loss or a profit.
That works pretty well for me. :)

Halo 3's just about it for me too. $60 a game is just too much for a cheap bastard like me to cough up at one time, especially since I can pick up six or seven used original Xbox games for the same price.

I really hate paying full pop for games. With the new $59.99 pricing structure, you're talking almost $65 to get a new game. If you can wait a couple weeks, you can put up a Craigslist ad that says you will buy such and such for $50. Now, you're only saving $15, but $15 is $15 is $15. That shit adds up. If you can wait a full month, or maybe two, you can get a game for $40, instead of $65.
I got Crackdown for $38, and it was about 46 days old at the time. $38 is a helluva savings from $65. It's almost half. But it can be hard to wait for that long, especially when a game has a ton of hype and buzz about it. With GTA IV, I'm not sure I can wait very long. I might just have to pay full pop. The thing is, if you are going to pay full pop, make sure to buy it from Target. Target has a 90 day return policy. They don't do price adjustments however. But what I do, is.... say this scenario happens...:
I buy GTA IV from Target the day it comes out. 2 months later, I see it on sale at Circuit City for $44.99. I can go buy it at Circuit City for $44.99 and return that copy with my Target receipt back to Target and get my money back. Therefore, I basically paid $44.99 for GTA IV. Now, you might say that doing something like that is return fraud, and you're right, but it's also complete bullshit that a place like target has a 90 day return policy, but yet they don't do price adjustments. So they basically force people to do the switcheroo to take advantage of the 90 day return policy. Having said all that, I've purchased many a game at Target that didn't drop it's price in the first 90 days, but that is actually pretty rare. I have a Fry's Electronics in my area, and they are always having sales. Sometimes it's only 10 bucks off, but still.

Persona 3.
And that's because the game's price will skyrocket once it goes out of print.

They used to do the adjustments but it wasn't financially justifiable to keep that policy, or so they told us when they did away with it (I was working there at the time). It's not bullshit, it's business. They need to make profits. You're guilty of a crime by your own admission and shouldn't be so proud.

Juiced 2 for the PC... sure I can get it for half price about 6 months after it's released, but I've been waiting long enough for it to be released already now!
I also want to order Virtual Skipper 5 and the Race: the WTCC game + the Caterham expansion for the PC, but I'm still saving up for those two games...
also, 3D Model Trains finally came out for the PC recently, so I want to get that one too, and I also want to get Ship Simulator 2008 when it comes out...
and of course there's still a couple of triple digit import games that I want to get too... namely Radiant Silvergun and Stellar Assault SS... yeah I could get alot more games for what those two will cost me, but I really don't have that many cheaper games remaining on my want list, so it's not such a big deal...

no it's not bullshit, it's genius... thanks for the info, Anthony! I never thought of that! I'm gonna have to try that out with something I want from there...

I was torn between GTA 4 and Halo 3 but I'll get more mileage out of GTA 4. I'm not on Live so the multiplayer won't be a factor on Halo 3. I would probably spend about 12 hours with Halo 3 and 50+ hours in GTA 4. I love to explore the city.

Anthony1, I do that all the time and never think twice about it. If it's cheaper for me in the long run I don't really care. Money saved = more games bought. I'll even openly admit to buying games I know have been stolen. Who cares. I'm not the one that did the stealing and I save money. That brand new copy at the flea market of The Darkness is $45? Cool you stole it, I buy it and save $30. Life moves on.

I have only bought maybe three games new. I am not rich, and cannot afford to pay full price for the many games that I want. Having said that, I think Rock Band may be a day 1 purchase.

For me it will be a function of working overtime. All overtime this time of year goes to games and Christmas presents.
I get paid adequately so a couple hours of overtime almost pays for a new game. Now last year I preordered abouat a dozen games, but after they hit the street and I read the reviews I only bough about seven of them. Overtime takes away from playing time.
The release schedule this year is insane. There are more games coming out that look 'great' than ever so I made a wish list and will likely preorder too many games again. I can get my money back on preorders so I price shop on release date; sometimes online or at the major retailers you can get a cheaper price than Gamestop who always goes with the MSRP.
I have preorded six games thus far:
1) Super Mario Galaxy
2) Halo 3, more for the event thatits release will be than because I am a Halo fan. Single player only, multiplayer leads to obsession.
3) Bioshock (PC), comes out in August; second super-hit after Metroid? Clocked at 20 hours to complete.
4) Mass Effect (360) anyone heard of a PC version. Concerned this will take up too much time.
5) Quake Wars (PC), I am a bigger Quake fan than Halo...
6) Dungeons and Dragons Tactics (PSP), I only get to play D&D in games any more.
In a perfect world:
Assassin's Creed (I will buy this)
Lair (Want to see a review first)
Blue Dragon (good chance)
Stranglehold (Looks like a Max Payne sequel)
Two Worlds (Want to see a review)
Heavenly Sword (Probably a must buy)
Blacksite Area 51 (Short FPS, might wait for a preowned)
Jericho (Give me a review)
Crysis (Yes I will have this for DX10 on my PC)
Ratchet and Cllank (My sister will make me buy this)
Lost Odyssey (Maybe? Dynasty Warriors clone?)
Zelda Phantom Hourglass (Prordered this last year)
Neverwinter Nights 2 Expanion (If I make it through the game first)
Bladestorm (Maybe)
Call of Duty 4 (Looks awesome; don't usually like this genre)
Nights, Wii (Need to see more, I have doubts)
Haze (Another sleeper?)
Time Crisi 4 (If the new gun is backwards compatible with the PS2 Crisis' I am there)
Elder Scrolls PSP and PC Collector's Set (Want them but will take up too much time)
Loki (PC Rpg)
A dozen more lesser titles if I find them cheap.
Long list, sorry, but it really is an amazing holiday for games.
