I recently bought a new Xbox 360 (the $400 model) for $288, at Meijer. I wanted a 360 eventually, but I was waiting for 1) a price drop, and 2) the supposed 65 nm chips. The new elite model made things a little more confusing for me too.
Anyway, the sale I think covers number 1, as I highly doubt any price drop would be more than $100. But it doesn't help #2, and even a 3 year warranty is not really long enough for me. It also bothers me that if I eventually get a 1080p TV I wont be able to fully utilize it.
I am debating whether to keep the 360 or try to pawn it off for some profit, and I was hoping for some input.

360 handles 1080p just fine over VGA and component. HDMI too, but that's the elite.
You have the best console on the market right now. There's no reason not to keep it.

ditto, right now and for the foreseeable future, I think thats the pony to bet on, not that the ps3 isn't good, its just over priced in my opinion for what you get.... but there will be better games down the road for that system making it more worth while as well.

I'd say keep it a few more months until Bioshock and Mass Effect come out.

Keep it. Lots of great games on the system with more coming in the near future. You got a killer price on it. And it looks fine on 720p.

Are you serious?
Keep it. You got a good deal.

The only thing worse than getting rid of a system you like is trying to get one back later with new games that come out. right now it is just the price of the games later it will be system and games.
Also even if there is a revision model ms is under no timetable to change it so one could be waiting a long time. Enjoy the system and warranty you paid 288 for a 400 premium you saved. 112.00 how much more you expect to save?
Right now there is no profit to be made. Most people that will pay more than 288 would rather buy new with receipt.

Let's see. The only alternatives are either last generation systems or......
(a). a system with inferior graphics
(b). a system that costs a lot more and has an inferior library at this moment

Forget about the whole 1080p thing, it's totally overblown. I'm a hardcore videophile that is the type that notices tiny little details in video signals, and I've seen A/B tests of Elite 360's outputting both via component and HDMI, and unless you sit about 10 inches from your screen, you won't notice a single difference. So forget about the whole 1080p thing and HDMI thing.
As for the 65nm thing, I can feel you on that one, cause I'm interested in getting another 360, to use in another room, kinda as an extra 360 to have, and I'm looking on craigslist for used ones to try to get a really good deal on one, but in the back of my mind, I'm thinking...."Why are you going to buy a ticking time bomb?" Cause we know that all current 360's floating around right now are likely destined to fail at some point. Sure, you might have a 3 year warranty, but that doesn't change the fact that if you have to send it back to MS, you might be without that system for 5 weeks or even more. That's the biggest issue for me. I wouldn't want to have it gone for 5+ weeks.
Also, the 65nm thing is probably going to be coming down the line pretty darn soon I would imagine. We might see them in stores in the next 60 days. The other benefit of the 65nm ones, are the fact that we might get a smaller power brick, and they might not sound like a jet engine taking off. My current 360 makes a heck of alotta noise while it's running.
Might as well sell your 360, and rebuy in about 60 days.

You know it's a good bet that if it does fail, and you have to send it in, they'll just send you a new one with the 65nm chips in it.

That last thought is similar to what I have been thinking. In two in a half years, if it hasn't broken yet, I could just run it for a while with a hair dryer blowing into it. Or not.

If you arent going to be happy with it, why not just sell it, make back your money, and wait for something to come along that you really want, or if an emergency comes around, you wont have a useless 360 sitting there.
