Hey boys and girls! We're going to have a Dr. Mario tournament during the DP party on Saturday night. Get those thumbs warmed up, 'cause we're going to put 'em to the test.
The winner will mostly get bragging rights, but we are looking for (a) sponsor(s) to donate a prize (it can be small, worth $5 or more). In exchange, I will frequently announce "winner will receive [prize] donated by [your company/table]!" If no others want to donate, Y-bot will give a little somthin'.
To sign up for the Dr. Mario tournament that will be held during the DP party:
By Thursday night, reply to this thread with your name saying that you'd like to compete,
OR
You can stop by the Y-bot/Billy Galaxy/Suteki booth at the show and ask the girl dressed as princess peach (that would be me) to sign up.
Dr. Mario Tournament, FTW!

I will donate a prize to the cause...then I will win the tourney and reclaim my donation LOL
But seriously, Next Level Videogames will supply the goods :D

I'm curious as to why Dr. Mario was chosen, it seems like an odd choice to me.
One important thing to keep in mind is to make sure people signing up for the tournament will actually be going to the party and have an invite. Maybe you should quickly do sign-ups and make the bracket once the party starts and people are there.
With that said, I'm in!

I'd play, but:
1. The First Annual DP/CGE Texas Hold'em Tourney will be going on in a nearby corner of the party.
2. Dr. Mario is an impossible game to play when you're colorblind like me. :monkey:

Not only will I play in the Texas Hold 'Em tourney, I will ALSO find a way to compete in this one. Dr. Mario is one of my better games... so beware, cowards, I live!

I chose Dr. Mario because it's an easy game for two people to play at once, against each other, and know clearly who won. I, myself, am a Tetris fiend and would gladly change the game to Tetris if the crowd so wishes. Would people prefer Tetris?
Thank you, kind sponcers, I'll PM you.

I don't have a problem with changing it to Tetris, but Dr. Mario is a good choice for the reasons you said. And I wanna see just how strong a Tetris "fiend" you are... I can hold my own... side-bet perhaps?

Nick from Next Level Video Games (Drexel923) and Dave (Dave2236) both offered to donate prizes, not sure what they will be yet, but I'll announce it when they know. So, be sure to stop by their booth and say thanks!
On that note, the donations are taken care of, thanks for the additional PM offers.
The party will go from about 9:PM to 2 or 3 AM, and I've made some changes to the plans! I heard that the previous party was difficult for everyone to get into. So, unlike I previously had planned, sign-ups will just be held at the party, I'll make an announcement and everyone who so chooses can sign up. I predict that the tournament will start at 10-10:30 or so.
Additionally, we'll have a Dr. Mario AND a Tetris tournament, one after the other, so you can be in one, both or neither (if you're lame).
RetroYoungen, I'm up for a side-bet. What do you have in mind? Get ready for the lose.

Why the choice of puzzle games? Why not a more exciting game such as Smash Bros, Powerstone, Guardian Heroes, General Chaos, or Bomberman?
Not my party, not my choice, just curious :)

I'd like to make a little suggestion on the starting levels for Dr Mario/Tetris. Set them a little high to make the games go a little quicker. There was a NES Dr Mario tournament at the last Cinciclassic and this seemed to work well.

By the way. I am the best Super Smash Bros. player in the world.
Seriously, I could kick your ass.

Sign me up as long as it doesn't conflict with the Hold'em tourney, and I am able to get a seat at the tourney.
