Gamecube Cases

Looking at a couple of my GC cases, I discovered that there are two different versions, One as an actual DVD case, and one with a hole in the bottom, like Blockbuster DVD cases. Both are imprinted with "Nintendo Gamecube" on the inside, so I assume both are licensed GC cases. Was it just a developer's decision which case to use? For reference, the games are Viewtiful Joe and Rogue Squadron.

As far as I been able to tell for the first 8-12 months after the GC was released all games came in the regular-type cases. After that period and for the rest of the systems life, all cases had the holes in them.
