this came out on the super famicon, mega drive, and 3do. Which systems had the best ports?

snes hands down, the genesis and saturn games were beyond playably bad (at least for sailor moon) plus there was a nice variety for both cartoons on the snes, the yu yu games were a very uniqe turn based fighter and the sm games had the range of street fighter, rpg ,streets of rage and puzzle games (avoid the puzzle games though)

I really liked the 3D0 version of Yu Yu Hakusho. I think it's one of the best fighters on the 3D0, though I know that isn't saying much. I vaguely remember one of the characters having a super move that involved a huge truck or semi running over his opponent.

The MD Sailor Moon game is certainly playable, if not a little bland. The music's pretty nice as well. I think it's based off an arcade game, and there's an SFC conversion of it as well, but I can't really comment on those.

The SFC Yuu Yuu Hakusho games remind me of Tecmo's Captain Tsubasa games (Tecmo Cup Soccer Game!).

super famicom hands down. it has a nice selection of fighters, rpgs, puzzle, and such for those 2 series. plus most can be had for a semi reasonable price.

Wasn't there an RPG also made for SM for the Super Fami? I remember playing a ROM of it a while back, didn't make it very far, it was translated but was done pretty low-level if my memory serves.

The Mega Drive Sailormoon beat 'em up was a watered down and reworked port of the Sailormoon Super Famicom beat 'em up. There was also a Sailormoon R beat 'em up for the Super Famicom that was better than the original. As has been said, there were also a number of puzzle games and a pair of fighting games for the SFC, all of which are entertaining. Really the only Sailormoon puzzle game that may not be for everyone is Bishoujo Senshi Sailormoon S Kondo wa Puzzle de Oshioikiyo. (the one with all the little blocks)

All three (if you count Welcome to Nakayoshi Park which featured manga Sailor Moon) of the Sailormoon GameBoy games are fun as well but you should know a touch of Japanese or at least be familar with the plot arcs of Sailormoon and Sailormoon R. The Game Gear got a Sailormoon S platformer that's one of the better games on the system.

The fighting games for the PlayStation and Saturn are pretty much the same and while not as horrible as many say they are, they're no where near good. There's also a edutainment title for the PlayStation that was released semi recently. (I really want this title, the special KidsStation controller is just cool) Not to mention two collections of mini games for the PCEngine CD system.

Correct, Bishoujo Senshi Sailormoon Another Story. The translation took a LONG time and was one of the first really big fan translations of a large scale game ever - it's really quite good actually. The game is fun too with the exception of Sailor Mercury's doppleganger in the second chapter. I swear, it has to be the longest single enemy battle in RPG history.

However I'll have to say hands down the best Sailormoon fighting game is Pretty Soldier Sailormoon S on the 3DO. It's not Asuka 120%, but it's superb in all aspects.

.......I'll be a moonie all my life damnit.

I know its almost cliche to mention it at this point, and I'm surprised that no one has as of yet, but the MegaDrive game Yu Yu Hakusho: Makyo Toitsusen is absolutely spectacular. Yes, the super expensive, but well worth it if you have 4 friends and a multitap, Treasure developed, multi-plane fighting game. As far as the story goes, I am at a loss due to a lack of Japanese language and Yu Yu Hakusho knowledge, but the gameplay, graphics and sound are all stellar.

Their Saturn masterpiece Guardian Heroes owes much to this game's gameplay, and anyone can be competitive with either a 3 or 6 button pad, though the latter is preferred. If this had been released in the US, and the magazines had a chance to fluff it, it could have been a college dorm room phenomenon. GameFan certainly lobbied for it.

From today's perspective, the only flaws that stand out are technical in nature, stemming from the much maligned shortcomings of the MD color pallette and voice synth. This is negligible in the whole scheme of things as the game does manage to consistently push the machine to the limit without too much slowdown. There are all kinds of transparency and scrolling effects going on with 4 players onscreen at once that make you forget about the dithering.

The Yuyu Huakusho fighters on SNES were very enjoyable to me and the Sailor Moon RPG is far better than you'd ever think it would be, but it can be a little slow at parts.

I've only played the Treasure developed YYH on MegaDrive and thought it was solid. I don't think it's worth $100 to most people and it's certainly not the greatest fighter, but it's worth a look if you're a Treasure head or fan of the anime.
