Any new game stores that I should know about? I will be in the Overland Park area; are there any pawns or thrift stores within 20 miles or so of that?
I will be going through St. Joe as well. Anything there I should know about?

I would say Trade-N-Games would be a must-stop, depending on how close you get to Fenton. (http://www.tradengames.com | 1049 Gravois Rd, Fenton, MO)

I am coming down from Omaha, so I won't be coming near St. Louis. That store looks pretty cool. If I am ever around St. Louis I'll remember to stop there.

Head out to Lawrence (University of Kansas, where I went to school) --- there use to be a TON of privately owned stores there.

Rock Chalk!
I think this may have changed. I wasn't much in to classic gaming when I was in school, but I did go to some of the little junk shops on occasion. Was back visiting a year or so and they either were dry or closed. It is probably worth the trip just cause it is a cool town. There is always some good live music, and Free State makes some damn fine beer... maybe they still even do $1 pints on monday evening (probably $2 by now, though). The Red Lion was always a favorite watering hole as well.

I'm not sure about pawns or Goodwill, sorry. I've not spent much time in OP looking for such places, I'm always working when I'm over there.
