Hi all,

I have one of these complete in good condition (box is bit bashed, but still OK).... For those who don't know, its a Japan only add-on that allowed download of games via satellite. The service isn't online anymore tho... :(
However, you can play games that you have already downloaded to the memcard. This is more of a collectors item than a useful piece of hardware...

If you'd like it, I'm open to (sensible) offers / questions. ^_^

You guys could try to find the roms because most of the games are all good.

OK, I'm gonna buy a second hand SFC to test this all out and find out what (if any) games are on the cart!

hey pjpn-

do you know if the s'view games were loaded onto the super famicom memory cassette carts that nintendo made (SVHC-MMSA-JPN1)? i have one cart (boxed, complete) here with 4 games on it (gradius 3, super bomberman 3, contra spirits, and sim city, and there are 3 slots left- are there still sfc download machines in japan???

No, the Nintendo Power service stopped sometime last year or in 2001, so I guess those slots will have to remain empty :/

OK,

Geelw - The memory cart you mention isn't the same as the mem cart in the Satellaview; However, I think you are talking about a regular SFC memory cart which can still be used in here in Japan. There is a famous convenience store all over Japan called Lawson; they have a system that allows you to pay bills, book tickets and the like called 'Loppi'. You can take a memcart in to any Lawson and download games to the cart... Unless I'm very much mistaken (I'll check and let you know) this service still works.

Evan - is the Nintendo Power service the name of the Japanese service I mentioned above or is it an American one?

Check this link for a few pics + info.

I did hook up the Satellaview system last night and it does work. The girlfriend and I flicked thru the manual and found the option to get to the downloaded files...

And there were 2 odd files that the previous owner had gotten (titles translated from Japanese, but they don't make sense in Japanese either!):

1) "Alligator's Food" - This looks like a downloaded interview / magazine article the subject of which is a bikini model of some sort... :)

2) "Smell of Brother" - Yes, that's one messed up title! This seemed to be something like a chat thing / quiz or something. Very odd...

You control access to the various parts of the Satellite interface by walking around a town and trying to go to different buildings. The only building you can go in is your home, as (obviously) the satellite download service has been stopped, meaning you can't access the other buildings / features. Does this make sense??

There might be other stuff we didn't see, but I'm not going to spend hours on it!

Yeah, I was talking about the Japanese Nintendo Power service.

According to John Weidman (a huge expert in all things snes related), the service was shut down last year.

Also, be careful with the Satellaview options... I heard you can easily erase all the ram, deleting the games that are loaded, and you can't get them back.

Thanks for the info - I'll keep a look out for any of those carts... ^_^
