With the upcoming release of Super Smash Brothers Brawl looming, I was in the market for another Nintendo Wavebird controller. Seeing as this will be the preferred control scheme for most gamers I thought I should pick one up before they disappear this December.

Well, guess what...they're gone from stores and from online retailers - AND - new Wavebirds are already fetching $45.00 on ebay. I can't even imagine how much they'll be going for when SSBB is released. Who saw this one coming?

I saw some in KMart a few months ago on clearance for $24.99. Looks like I should have picked them up.

I got two from a walmart in my area three weeks ago for 10 a piece then found a rechargable battery pack at movie gallery yesterday for 2.99. The movie gallery had two wavebirds controllers I think for 24.99 though, and like I said that was yesterday. Plus all the Gamestops in my area still have them in stock.

Gamecube controllers in general have been sparse in my area. I saw a few at one store and got all excited. If I didn't have four already (three corded, one wavebird), I would have snatched a couple.

If anyone needs one, let me know, and we can make a deal.

How new is that control diagram?

I would of though Nintendo forced the Wiimote for control. If you can indeed use Gamecube controllers my excitement just increased.

The picture is from IGN's E3 2007 coverage. I'm excited too. I can't describe how refreshing it is to see Nintendo ditch the "gimmick" BS Wiimote and give the player the option to decide which controller best suits their style.

+1 Nintendo.

I guess I should get my factory sealed case of Wavebird controllers out of my damp storage unit if they are starting to become worth more.

I'm glad i picked mine up when amazon cleared them out for 25$ shipped. Used their "you get 30$ for signing up for our credit card" offer and got it, well, even cheaper.

There were three scratched up, used Wavebirds ($29.99 each) at a local used video game store last week. All three were gone today when I stopped in during lunch. I think people are starting to realize that these things were worth their weight in gold.

Unless Nintendo re-releases them, factory sealed Wavebirds will be going for over $100 on ebay by this December. I'm calling it now.

The one thing I've noticed I have seen Wavebirds and regular Gamecube controller they are on clearance, I am thinking of picking up another wavebird since I finally picked up another Gamecube Controller since I had got rid of the rest of mine.

Ever since they first announced Brawl they said that you could play it with just a Cube controller.

at a pawn shop for 15 bucks... Then just a week ago, the used system glass case at Blockbuster had 3 of them for 12.99- 2 gray and one silver controller. As far as finding them in a retail store, good luck.

Found 30 of these at a new Wal-Mart Friday night in the clearance aisle. Apparently, the Wal-Mart in my hometown had found a case of these in the back and put'em out under clearance. I picked up all of'em and have been selling them on ebay. I think I made a mistake and started posting them a bit too cheap as the buyers were using BIN in a matter of minutes on my first several postings. I've had four people message me wanting to buy all I had for a discount...here's what's left of the lot:

You were so lucky. I hope you didn't offer them too cheap. To find a box in the back of these, what are the odds? Good luck in getting rid of those at a reasonable price. I sure hope some Dpers could help you get rid of those.

A few months ago all the major stores here had them $24.99 to $34.99, now nothing...

What had happened is this: we had a small Wal-Mart that stayed open normal hours. About a year ago that started building a 24 hour Supercenter nearby and when it opened, of course, all the product was transferred to the new store. Right now there are about eight aisles of clearance product, so I can only assume it is old product that was never put on the shelves to begin with and they are simply trying to get rid of it now. One other thing I noticed were a bunch of multi-system component cables for the 360/Wii/PS3, but the price wasn;t really very attractive.

Well... before I bought the one at the pawn shop... at the end of june... I had just bought my gamecube, so I looked around, and wound up buying one at Toys R Us for 34.99- But yeah that was the only store that still had them.

All the walmart's around me have a few and they marked them down to $19.99 last week. I picked up a couple of them.

Yeah, I never got a Wavebird and I was looking for one. Can't find the damn things anywhere.

The clearance aisle here is completely Wavebirdless. I check the aisle once a week or so. Although about a month ago I found a single N64 controller extension in the clearance aisle. I wonder how they had missed that over the past few years?

yeah this is the one game I want quite a bit on the wii (ironically its a non wiimote game!) anyway I'm hoping I can play with my classic controller cause I don't have any GC controllers anymore :( they are hard to find, unless you want the crappy aftermarket stuff
