This is such a nice console design in my opinion—it has that retro high-tech look that can be so cool when done nice.

quite so. Can the MIII play SMS games?

sorry, I don't know the answer to your question

Not too many games I would want to play for the system, but I DO like the hardware design....I hadn't seen such a close-up picture of it before

It cannot play US/EU SMS games, at least not without heavy modding. I don't think there's a converter either.

Yes this looks great. Much better than the current consoles. Wii is okay though, but the other are really not what I would call "sexy".

Yeah, it's pretty cool. I especially like what they did with those controller slots.

It kind of reminds me of some kind of 80s rack mount audio hardware or something.

I think the color scheme is one of the best parts...if it was all back it would be pretty boring

Tototek (tototek.com) sell an adaptor to play Western carts on a Mark III or JP SMS.

No offense but it looks almost exactly the same as the US/UK version. Just white with a slight difference in placement of controller ports and what looks like a cradle on the sides for holding your controllers.

It looks similar but only in that they have the same unique footprint shape...the differences are actually what makes the design nice to me

Yeah, it's quite different from the SMS design. For one thing, it's flat. It does look pretty awesome, though I'm not too keen on the yellow power button. Actually, I like all of Sega's console designs quite a bit (the SMS being the strangest outside of the Genesis+CD+32x conglomeration).

The Mark III is also about two-thirds the size of the Western units.

It looks even cooler with the FM Unit sitting on top, ribbon cable running to the back! :)

Man I wish these weren't so expensive/unavailable in the US!

There's a pic of a souped-up Mark III set-up with the FM Unit & Telecon thingy in this SMS Power thread:
