The last time I was wiped out in Lord of the Dungeon, it was by 8 Dark Lords in Level 8. Since they could use all 6 levels of both Magic and Cleric Spells, drain Energy Levels, and were impervious to physical attack by a 50-is level Hirebrand with a magic sword, I naturally assumed that that was it.
Guess not. Posterman's information, about "secret rooms," made me wonder if in fact they were monsters from a lower level?
A few days ago, I ventured back into that level. Explored it. No Dark Lords this time, but I did run into Storm Giants, Iron Golems (clearly based on the old Dungeons and Dragons Monster Manual of 1977), and Red Dragons who could do 200 Hit Points of damage- per attack. My party survived, but we had to return to town.
Later, it turns out that there are 2 ways into Level 8 from Level 7. Wandering around again, I found it- stairs.
Sure enough, they lead to Level 9. I did NOT explore it! Obviously, there is more to this game than my instructions have said...
