I am looking to see what everyone else thinks about this? I can't speak much in terms of the technical aspect of it, but I have always liked the TG-16 graphics better. They just seem to have a "glowing quality" to them. I just have always loved the look of the graphics on the TG-16. The Genny is pretty great as well, but just not the same. What does everyone else think?

I agree for the most part. It's hard not to like the 256 colors of TG-16 games vs the paltry 64 of the Genny. The genesis was a more powerful machine though so some of the special effects (like Castlevania Bloodlines, Gunstar Heroes) and later games with CGI (Vectorman, Toy Story) are pretty nice...

Cheers,
Ben

so what's the technical specs? 256 vs 64 colors? do you mean the Genny could only display 64 colors ?

yeah, I just checked it out. That's cool. well, let me say this then: for some reason, I think the overall "look" of the graphics on the TG-16 are better than the SNES also.

Yeah the TG16 looks pretty but the Genny can do parallax and groovy stuff like that. It's a toss up for me, but I do admit the vibrancy of the TG16 really gets me. There just isn't another console that had that look.

I didn't like any of the graphics on the Genesis... they all have this grainy... washed out look to them. The TG16 has bright and beatiful colors and none of that grainyness to it. So it wins in my book.

I agree with you...I like the colorful look of the TG16 games as well. Most of the genny games I've played looked washed out. Outside of colors, however, I've seen both systems display some major eyecandy.

My question is, which system had the better sound and music? I lean towards the TG16 as well....

I think it boils down to how well the developers know the architecture of the system. If you look at some of the first party arcade ports on the Genesis, they looked pretty damn good. Strider was pretty amazing for its time. To me the TG-16, even with its capabilities, was fairly cheesy on a lot of games in the graphic realm. Only a few titles got me to really blink and go "hey that looks cool".

Now you wanna talk about washed out: some of the 3rd party titles on the SNES look horrible.

S&K and Ecco were on par with some SNES games in my opinion. It really relied on how good a developer could manipulate that palette. Having said that, the colors available for the TG-16 made it easier to make games look swell, but there were still some games that just looked like ass. JJ & Jeff, Bravoman come to mind.

The Genesis graphics are pretty blurry & washed out. Performing the Svideo mod does absolute wonders for the quality. The colors really stand out, and the graphics are much more crisp. The composite output of the Genesis is just plain awful.

Agreed...for sheer vibrancy and clarity of sprites, the TG16 is tops for 16 bit in my book. Just edges out the SNES :)
