Last Monday I received RG Issue 40.
And actuallyI was pleasently surprised, all (most) articles are excellent.
They even managed to spell properly eg Mortal Kombat with a "K".
Nice History of MK too, well written.
Excellent third part of SNK profile (people on the RG forum didn't get it).
Surprise, an Odyssey 2 (Videopac) review of Quest for the Rings, tops marks for this and long overdue.
The making of Archon, again very good.
PC Engine history...tops.
Pac-Man VR...interesting.
Making of Quake, good.
Aliens review (UK version). thruthful I prefer the US version, it has more 'umph' to it, but nevertheless.
Flood, excellent game review, I used to have that Teddy bear with a mouth as a sponge, scary.
A shooting Gallery review, which was ok.
Company profile....id Software (haven't read it yet)
Mel Croucher UK programmer, weird but good.
Chucky Egg, actually a review of a good British platformer
and best of all, the Television X girl is back.

Highly recommended.

So..... Where was the "Oh no" part of it?

I don't get upset like other people seem to get when I find a grammatical mistake in an issue. It seems that since the advent of the internet, all publications in the English speaking world slowly started slipping editorially. It makes me cringe when I see a professional publication that uses 'your' instead of 'you're', but I don't get up in arms about it. It's part of the dumbing down of our society thanks to the lowest common denominator types on the internet, lowering our collective intelligence quotients.

I think it was a tongue-in-cheek reference back to the previous RG threads ;)

Awww, come on now. Where did you ever see a magazine which spelled the word Kombat in Mortal Kombat with a C? I did once see a magazine here in the states spell the word Combat in Metal Combat with a K, though.

Good to hear you enjoyed that issue.

Glad to hear you're happy, Tom! I was worried you were going to blow a gasket after you got the last issue :)

I wish someone near me would stock RG in a decent time period -- I've yet to see issue 39 on the shelves. Grr.

Hmmm... I've been interested in subscribing to this mag, but I've heard that it's quite expensive. Can anyone confirm/deny that? And if so, is it still worth it? I have a few subscriptions to some of the modern gaming magazines, but Video Game Collector is the only "retro" mag I have. As a side note, any others mags for older games? VGC and RG are the only two I've heard of.

^ If you're in the US, yes, it's quite expensive for a subscription. What was it, $8-$15 per issue in a subscription? Something insane like that. Depends if it's worth it on your overall disposition toward the mag. I bought one issue, thought it wasn't bad (but not "awesome" either) so I would personally never pay that much for a sub. But if it's your thing, it might be worth it to you.

I would suggest GamesTM over Retro Gamer myself. They have a decent retro section (a mag within a mag) and they also cover current systems. You can't go wrong with either one though--video game magazines from the UK are a thousand times better than ones from the US.

GamesTM is good too, I got the first 30 issues, but the Retro section was (is?) always full of mistakes. It was always fun to read though. Haven't had an issue since 05, maybe they improved.

I also enjoyed RG39, except the Amiga history was written a bit to much....shall we say...fanboyish? Other than that, good issue.

>>bangtango<< A certain writer for RG does not care about the correct 'wrong' spellings, so yes it does happen.
