I found a Miracle Piano (I think NES) at my local goodwill today for $7.99. Unfortunately it was just the piano and I searched the store but couldn't find the cart of any of the cables.
How does this hook up to the NES, or does it? I was thinking about trying to complete the set, but wasn't sure if it used proprietary cables or not.
Anyone know?As far as I know, the piano was the same among all platforms, the only difference between the releases was the software, the manuals, and the connector for the console or computer. Hell, you could purchase other software / connector bundles, as they were advertised on the software manuals. You probably got a normal Miracle Piano, unless the front of the piano actually says "NINTENDO" on that removable plastic thing that goes on top of the buttons.

I know it is either the NES or SNES model of the piano because it has a "Licensed by Nintendo" logo near the top of the piano. How did you even connect it to the NES or SNES? Was there a port on the cart?

No, there's a special connector that plugged into the back of the piano. That was connected to the controller ports on the console. I sold a complete NES set last year, but I don't remember if it was a standard MIDI to NES plug or not.

I found some real good stuff at some of the local used game shops in my area last weekend. Some of this was stuff I've always wanted, but never expected to find in the wild, unless I got really lucky at a flea or something.
NES:
Ninja Gaiden III - loose - $17 (I've never seen this in the wild in my life!)
R.C. Pro-Am II - loose - $10
Panic Restaurant - CIB - $24
Genesis:
Championship Pro-Am - loose - $3
SNES:
Mega Man Soccer - loose - $20
Breath of Fire - CIB! - $36
Breath of Fire II - CIB! - $25
I'm especially happy with the BoF games. They belonged previously to the owner of the store I bought them from, and they're in very good shape. Boxes are a little worn, but everything else is minty. And I would've expected to pay like $50-70 a piece for those games, too!
I have a week off work next week, maybe I'll see if I can find some garage sales in my area. It's been a while since I've done that.

Fairly standard day at the flea market but a couple interesting things none the less. To begin with, a bootleg Atari VCS with "6001" games built in...
http://www.classicplastic.net/digitalpress/DP-Finds-2007-08-07(01).jpg
The system didn't have an AC adapter but that's no problem as I have plenty. However the RF box has a nonstandard connector on it and it's the same one the cord out of the system has. It's not a standard component cable so a type F to coaxial adapter doesn't fit on it, the connection is too loose. Also note the picture of a Colecovision on the switchbox. Anyway, I popped the system open, unplugged the RF cable (which was normal size on the inside) and replaced it with a standard one. Using a normal VCS power adapter I get the system to turn on however there's a lot of static in the audio. Picture wise the screen is black and white and rolls vertically at a rapid rate - making it unplayable. I'm guessing this thing ouputs to the PAL video standard? I haven't been able to find information on this bootleg system but any help would be great - anyone else have one? I'll probably end up selling it since while NES pirates are a dime a dozen I don't see VCS ones all that often.
http://www.classicplastic.net/digitalpress/DP-Finds-2007-08-07(02).jpg
PAL doesent mean the plugs should be a different size or be staticy sounding, i know theres some where within the system a POT for V-Sync and it sounds like its out of adjustment.....or there usually is, even with pirates.
what do the white stickers say on it?
any of it seem coroded inside?

This morning was a bust, but found a few things in the last week:
The atari games were at a Salvation Army for 1.95 each. Maybe a bit much, but better than their usual prices, and the boxes are in really good shape
The 3 GBA games are Attack of the Clones, Lego SWs, and Crash Bandicoot 2. A buck each.
The rest was at a sale that must have had 50 other PS1 games and demos, and a bunch more PS2 games, but most of it was junk games, though almost all in pristine condition. Been looking for Ico for a while, so was real happy with that for $7. Sealed ratchet and clank demo for a quarter, why not? The playstation demo disc has video previews for FF VII, IX, Tactics Chronicles, Chrono Trigger and Cross, and some other stuff, Playable FF VIII, and FF movie trailer. Is this worth anything? I thought it was worth it just to check out for myself, but after that I don't need to keep it. The PS1 games were $3 each, and in great condition.
I have a dilemma, do I keep the minty FF Tactics GH or my fair to good non-GH version?

Eariler this month I bought a complete, mint copy of Dragon Force for $59.99 from eBay.
Today I stopped by one of the local chain pawn shops in town and found complete copies Silent Hill 2 and 3 for Playstation 2. I paid $17 and both are black label. :)

I got pleasantly suprised at Goodwill today:
Found these Genesis games, all complete and $4 each:
American Gladiators
Sonic And Knuckles
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Hyperstone Heist
Tom Mason's Dinosaurs For Hire
Plus, found these PC games elsewhere (complete in jewel case) for $2 each:
The Journeyman Project Turbo (One of my favorite series on the PC)
Titanic: Adventure Out Of Time (another great adventure)
And then I found the Quest For Glory V soundtrack and demo for $2 as well. :)

A decent haul of loose NES stuff at the dirt mall this weekend.
Kid Niki - $4
Hook - $4
Star Soldier - $2.50
Renegade - $2.50
Super Mario 2 - $0.25
Pac-Man (licenced Tengen version) - $0.25
I also stopped at Goodwill and found a stack of NES games, but to my surprise they jacked up the price to almost double their original prices... $5.05 a pop. Thanks, but $4 is my limit on common ass NES titles. I guess I won't be going back for a while.
Also picked up TMNT (movie) for the GBA earlier this week since it dropped to $20. Easily the best Ninja Turtle game since Turtles in Time.

- Pokemon GBC Carry Case: $.25
- A bunch of assorted Pokemon cards (Some bootleg, most official): $.75
- A PS2-style PC Game Controller (New): $1
Also, my copy of .hack finally came in.

I hit two different thrifts tonight, and I saw a few things here and there but it was either something that didn't interest me much or was just plain too expensive. What's funny is that the Power Pad I got just recently was the first I ever came across, and then the very next thrift store I visit I find another. It was only 3.99, but I didn't see a pressing need to get a second at this point in time. This one wasn't boxed like the last one either.
Ironically, the one place that I bought some games at was a place where I almost NEVER buy any games at because they tend to always be way overpriced - Fred Meyer. I stopped in for groceries, but I checked electronics on a whim and found on the small clearance rack:
Steambot Chronicles (PS2)
Tokobot Plus (PS2)
Both were priced at $19.97, which I wasn't about to pay, but then I noticed a sign saying that all games on clearance would get an additional 30% off. So I got both after tax for 30 bucks, not too shabby. I've been wanting to get Tokobot all summer and I had heard that Toys R Us was selling it for $15, but this saved me the trouble. :) After tax it would've cost more there anyway. Oh, and it's kinda funny that both games I got start with a word that ends in "bot". :P

If you have some fishing games, then yes. But if you don't, it isn't very useful. Though it's kinda fun playing Marvel Vs Capcom with it. :p
I won't keep Fallout 2. I have a Windows computer, so I'll just sell it on eBay. :) The curious thing about it is that it has a sticker on the back that says "APPLE STORE"... there were tons of old Mac games at the flea market today. Wonder what was up with that...

Nah, it's a good price if you want it for yourself, especially if it's mint; but they go for $15-$30 on eBay with a game or two if you're lucky.
I second Niku-Sama's comment, get a Dreamcast if you can find one cheap. They're great little consoles and the homebrew scene is excellent. :)

In reference to your question, I don't know because only one FYE in my area sells games now because all the stock was moved to that store, and now, the manager says they are going to stop carrying games because games aren't profitable for them. All games and accessories except for Wii stuff was on sale, but the store near me has a pretty crappy selection.
Oh, and yesterday, I found at Gamestop:
Guilty Gear X2 (PS2, complete in pretty good shape) - $31.79
Nyko PlayTV (?) gadget for PSP - $39.99
The Nyko gadget uses a mirror that will project your PSP's screen onto your TV screen. There is a slight loss in image and color quality, but using it helped me to get past the first stage in Rainbow Islands Extra on the Taito Memories Pocket import...

In reference to your question, I don't know because only one FYE in my area sells games now because all the stock was moved to that store, and now, the manager says they are going to stop carrying games because games aren't profitable for them. All games and accessories except for Wii stuff was on sale, but the store near me has a pretty crappy selection.
Damn. I'll call my semi-local FYE store and see if they're doing the same.

Saturn Multitap from Ebay, $13.50.
Pretty good deal as everyone else is selling them at $50-$99
There was a Saturn multi-tap I saw the other day for $4 but passed on it since I was leaving town. I go by the place today and it's gone, no suprise though. I'm most so looking for a good priced Bomberman multi-tap anyhow, since that's the 4+ player game of choice.
Today, some really good games found!
SNES:
Wing Commander
Skyblazer
Axelay
NES:
Image Fight
All four game, $1 each and loose. They have a bunch of nasty stickers on the back but they all fall over the plastic region on the cartridge and will come off with a bit of glue gone stuff.
A true true treat though, I found a region-zero DVD of:

Graffiti Rock and Other Hip Hop Delights (http://www.rapreviews.com/archive/2002_10D_grafrock.html)

Today I found the following items. The first one is probably the best find I will have this month, I was excited to see it!
As for the Saturn games, I hadn't found any Saturn stuff in the wild for ages then all of a sudden in the past 7-10 days, I've found 4 games right in my area, 1 a little over a week ago and 3 today. Not bad at all, even though it is mostly commons.
-Empty Nintendo Gamecube Platinum Edition system box (box is in great shape with no tears, holes or writing): 40 cents at the Salvation Army, I don't have that version of the Gamecube but only a loser would pass up a like-new Gamecube box for 40 cents, my black Cube will fit great in there and I no longer have to keep it sitting out loose.
-NFL Quarterback Club 99 cart for Nintendo 64: some stickers on this loose cart but it was only $2 at Goodwill
-Madden 98 for Sega Saturn: complete and in good shape, $1.99 at Goodwill
-College Slam for Sega Saturn: complete and in good shape, $1.99 at Goodwill
-NHL All Star Hockey for Sega Saturn: complete and in good shape, $1.99 at Goodwill
-NBA Shootout 2003 for PS2: disc only in generic dvd case, disc has a few scratches but should work ok, $3 at Salvation Army
So the empty Gamecube system box was the highlight of my afternoon. 40 cents is a damn good price for that in the excellent shape it is in, even if it doesn't have a system, the documents, etc.

Tuesday flea market finds as usual...
From Sai the miscellaneous junk dealer...
http://www.classicplastic.net/digitalpress/DP-Finds-2007-08-14(02).jpg
Loose R.O.B., $2.00
Galileo thermometer, $2.00
The R.O.B. is in nice condition and works, includes his light visor. I bought him just as a decoration, great to find one that doesn't stink of barnyard like the last one I picked up and ultimately had to trash. The Galileo thermometer is nice but I honestly don't care all that much for the colors of the bulbs. Really they're secondary colors (black, teal, etc.) that are used in larger thermometers to give more color over all. I have others that have a much more diverse pallet so this one may end up out at an upcoming yard sale next weekend.

NES - Maniac Mansion, $2.50
NES - Power Punch II, $5.00
NES - Wall Street Kid, $2.50
SAT - Saturn 3D Control Pad, $2.00
GB - 36 in 1 Pirate Multicart, Free Trade
Maniac Mansion and Wall Street Kid are from a local indie dealer, Wall Street Kid will be replacing my existing copy which has a worn label and will be sold off. Power Punch II came with 3/4 of the box in a rental case, I never see copies of it in the wild so I grabbed it. Seller with the Saturn pad wanted $3 but I got him down to $2 since the cord insulation was pulled out of the controller end - simple and quick fix. It works great and means I can keep my boxed NiGHTS on the shelf when I want to play Gale Racer with the 3D pad. :) The multicart was a tradeback of the multicart I picked up last week, which had problems with the secondary ROM. I was hoping he had another of the same since it was an amazing multicart otherwise but alas he did not. However this one isn't bad at all, it contains five games repeated...
Bishoujo Senshi Sailormoon R
Terminator 2
Super Mario Land
Battle City
Dr. Mario
Not a horrible selection, gives me another Sailormoon game to play before continuing pursuit of the complete legal releases. :)

The local Goodwill actually had something cool for sale. It's been pretty desolate there in regards to video games. I passed up some Genesis carts (nothing I wanted) and found a large clear garbage bag with some game stuff. After fumbling with the plastic to see the carts and the system I decided to pick it up.
Atari 7800 Prosystem (with switch box, power supply and the expansion port)
1 Atari VCS joystick (with rubber removed)
1 Sun Tach 5 joystick (or something like that-it's off white and has kind of a flight-stick grip with a rocking fire button on the base and a small fire button on the top of the stick)
1 set of Atari paddles
All the the games are loose:
Atari 7800: Xevious
Atari 7800: One on One Basketball
Atari 7800: Ms. Pac Man
Atari 7800: Galaga
Atari 2600: Grand Prix
Atari 2600: Pitfall! (older text only label)
Atari 2600: Donkey Kong
Atari 2600: Centipede
$20 and everything works!

Damn. I'll call my semi-local FYE store and see if they're doing the same.
as far as fye is concerned, games are a very store-to-store affair. every now and then one store will stop carrying them, have a bit of a sale on some of the stuff, and transfer the leftovers out.

Today was a good day. I woke up at 5:50 instead of 5 AM so I scrambled to get dressed and got to the flea market at 6:30. After a bit of walking I stumble upon this...
http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j238/foxhack/DP/08-15-07.jpg
The Windows XP Recovery discs were $1.50 a pop. But the games?
They were $2 each. Diablo's going to eBay, but I'm keeping Discworld and the EA triple pack. I bought Blade Runner almost eight years ago and had to sell it to get money for a trip, and I've been looking for a copy of it for YEARS. All of them are complete, and Discworld's got a miniature wizard figurine inside! Woo!

Got a few things today, which is actually amazing considering how slow things have been most of the year.
5200:
Pole Position (CIB - $4) Little tearing on the top tab of box.
Real Sports Tennis (CIB - $4) Has a little tear on one side of the box.
Real Sports Baseball (CIB - $4) Great condition!
Real Sports Soccer (New - Free) Front bottom of box is dented in a bit, otherwise spectacular!
-> Atari games were Buy 3 get the 4th free.
SNES:
King of Dragons (L - $2)
I also found SMB 3 for $1 and traded it into a game store for a $4 credit towards my next purchase. I buy from the guy often so it's a good place to keep a few bucks for next time.

I had some absolutely awesome finds today, all in one thrift. It started off kind of lame, with just a bunch of shovelware PC games and console sports games. All I could find that was remotely worth getting (and it was kind of a stretch) was:
Aladdin (Game Gear) - 2.99 loose
Jack Nicklaus (NES) - 1.99 loose
However, things started to get a little interesting when I was browsing through some cables. I always do that in thrift stores just in case some controllers are mixed in. I spotted some controllers I didn't instantly recognize, and upon closer inspection, I realize they're 3DO controllers. I was half tempted to grab them there just for the novelty of them, but I figured that would be pointless without a system. I do, however, keep in mind to look extra close for a system just on the off chance that it would be somewhere else in the store, but it was just wishful thinking.
But just several feet away, there it was. :)
A very nice condition bare GoldStar model priced at 6.99. I assume the store's workers thought it was a VCR, since it was place among them and priced about the same. Since the plug is built in, that's not an issue, and luckily the 3DO uses just plain old generic A/V cables. Of course, I quickly went back and grabbed the three controllers - two GoldStar controllers and a third-party controller with six buttons, all in nice shape. Each was 1.99.
I think it actually worked out to my benefit that it wasn't all bundled together because I'm positive that if they realized it was a game system it would've been way more expensive, probably more so than buying the system and controllers all separate.
So I'm riding high on my 3DO find, and just about as I was about to go pay, I decide to check out a shelf with what looked like a small number of PC games. When I get close enough, I find a veritable treasure load of classics:
Ultima V: Warriors of Destiny
SimCity
Riven: The Sequel to Myst
Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri
The Secret of Monkey Island
All complete, all in excellent condition, each for 2.99.
All in all, I'm pleased as punch. :)
