It's August and it's pretty likely that it's going to be hot in your area. Fortunately, most thrift stores, game stores and pawn shops have air conditioning these days, so even if you don't find something cool, you'll get to cool off for a bit.

(Okay, that was corny.)

Anyways, after staying at 799 games for about a week, I kicked off the month with the purchase of my 800th:

Gamecube:
Resident Evil (complete, non-Player's Choice) - $7.50

Puzzle bobble artwork from Videogamerdaryll

And I just returned from Wal-mart with the following

I went to a garage sale for charity, so you name whatever price you wanna pay and they accept it, i found a box of old computer games, 4 dreamcast games, and then i found a box full of non video game stuff, so the computer stuff and dreamcast games were basicallly free because i got my moneys worth from the othe rstuff i bought. The computer games are oregon trail, rainbow six, carmen sandiego, risk, and there are about 5 more, they are in boxed, the dreamcast games are jet grind radio, sonic adventure 2, centipede, and crazy taxi, they are mint and are complete in the cases. I also got a shinobi handheld acrade game thrown in with the deal. Not bad!

I got pirates gold and herzog zwei and Aerobiz for the genesis in a lot of stuff I bought for $41 at a goodwill. It also had the model 2 genesis and sega cd system and 21 other games along with a bunch of controllers and a justifier gun. Heck, they even gave me the big blue plastic tote it was all in. I didn't even look through it when I saw the sega cd I bought it.

They didn't even say pirates gold or Herzog zwei was part of the lot either. I was thrilled.

Well, our annual central Kentucky yard sale started today and here was my first find...$10 for the whole lot and the bartering began at $40:

Hilite for me is Mario RPG which is my first copy. Also my first Superscope. There were about 8 original Transformers toys in the box that I gave to my daughter.

considering the extremely poor quality of this item, i am surprised it even has any art left on it at all. must not have seen much use. its just a wood board with a thin plastic decal that looks to have a paper backing. certainly not designed for exterior use! i can even turn it back into a scooter if i want!

$4.00

Looking at what others have grabbed, already some nice finds this month! Actually, one of the pawn shops has 9 Odyssey2 games CIB for $2 each, but they're all sports games but I might go back tomorrow and pick a couple of cool looking ones up. Also they have some CIB VCS sports titles and 2 or 3 games non-sports, but nothing like Crazy Climber (I believe I found the only one I'll find in my life last year). :)

So anyways, enough delay. I'll provide pictures tonight but I grabbed FINNALLY a 5200 system with 4 ports. Here's the dirty:
controllers:
3 Wico stick, 2 of which don't re-center and when the store employees tested them they claimed they didn't work.
1 Wico numeric pad, apparently it works.
CIB Atari tracball

As for Games:
Joust, Space Invaders, Moon Patrol, Frogger, Q*bert, Qix
--All CIB
For cables there is an official RC adaptor and 2 official power supplies.

Total dent: $52.49 after tax. Not the best EVER deal but certainly withing my price point I've been looking for. I already own a controller that I don't know the state of but will be tested tonight but I'll need to at least own 4 working controllers eventually.

I got some good stuff today, And some embarrassing games..

First, I bought a genesis with a game genie and the cords. (No controllers) It was $1.50.

Next, I bought some game boy stuff. A few GBA game protectors, A GBA light, Six games... Four out of six are embarrassing.. (Barbie games, sponegob and MK&A O_O) But the ones that aren't embarrassing are Ms. pac man and bugs bunny crazy castle 4. That lot was $1...

I bought two tape to CD converters for 50 cents (Wohoo!)

I went to goodwill today to pick up a cib copy of vectorman I saw there last week. it was gone, but I did get

metal gear solid, original black label, complete if anyone wants it
battletoads/double dragon for genesis, cib if anyone wants it
kings quest v for pc, jewelcase with artwork.

i thought the kings quest would sell for a decent amount on ebay, but it looks to be practically worthless. luckily, mgs seems to have gone up a lot ($25+), and bt/dd is decent as well. not bad, but I wish I could have gotten vectorman.

Over the past week, I've bought complete copies of Cyber Speedway, Fighter's Megamix, and Creature Shock for the Saturn, Eye of the Beholder for the Sega CD, an NES Dogbone controller, Biomotor Unitron and The Last Blade for the Neo-Geo Pocket Color, and an Atari Paddle plug-and-play. And a couple of odd things I picked up in the same Goodwill, a Mira Furlan music CD (she was on Babylon 5) and a two foot tall remote control Robot from Lost In Space.

HyperZone for SNES - 9.99

Not much, but it is a good game, fun to play.
I know that I got ripped off, but my friend has it, I like the game, so 9.99 isn't too much to pay for a fun game.

I can not believe what i found today, this is my first one ever, a neo geo cd system the toploadiing one with 2 of the big joysticks and all the plugs, no games though? the person might call later if they find games. The best part though is they also had a sega saturn at the same place, missing the power plug though, and also no games, but how much for both, they were both priced at 10 each, but since the saturn was missing the power plug i got both for 10 total. I cant believe it. Also i picked up another sega saturn at another house with like 8 games for 15. I have never found a saturn before, then two in 1 day and a neo geo. also i got all the sim games for the pc, like 10 of them and half were boxed, for 1 each. And yesterday i went to a church sale and got 29 ps1 games for 1 each. they had two ps1 systems, 10 for both but i passed on them. And two days ago i picked up 4 dreamcast games for 1 each. Sonic adventure 2, jet grind radio, centipede, crazy taxi. I have been really scoring big!

Uggghhhhh...After about nine hours of yard sales I don;t have much to show for it. I came out with a brand new never before opened Sega Master System for $10 from an Amish family who were set up at a mass yard sale...weird. Also picked up a couple of old PC games for a quarter including a complete Ultima Stygian Abyss with all maps and books and some sort of 6 button fighting stick for the Genesis which is still boxed in a somewhat obliterated box. One fella had lots of N64 and SNES games but he knew what they were worth and had'em overpriced. On the way home I payed wayyy too much for an 18 pack of Miller Lite and three dozen mini chocolate donuts, but who cares, it was worth it. I don't deal with those types of folks. I am wore out.

That's not too bad at all if you ask me! I was out at sales for 4 hours or so and the only gaming thing I saw the whole time was a Railroad Tycoon for PS2 that wasn't priced (I hate that). And this was a neighborhood sale, so it was quite a lot of houses in that time. Being a beer snob, I can't really condone your second to last find if it is a regular occurance; when I slum it I go for Grain Belt. Maybe that's a North Central thing, though.

I went on a little "adventure" with my mom today, stopping at all sorts of places. We stopped at a few yard sales, but I couldn't find any games or systems (my mom found some nice stuff for herself, though). I did, however, a freakin' HUMONGOUS Donkey Kong stuffed animal at the very first house we stopped at. This thing absolutely dwarfs the 2-3 foot long Sonic the Hedgehog I got previously. I swear, it's practically a life-size gorilla. :P He's very squishy and soft like a pillow and kinda crumples into a pile when set down. He's got a couple holes which the lady explained was so she could pull the stuffing out and wash it. That seems like a good idea actually and I'll probably do that myself and stitch him back up. She was also saying that she used to have it in her 1st grade classroom and her students would cuddle up and read to him. :) Very cute. Oh, and he has massive monkey boobs too, haha. He was priced at 5 bucks, but I figured they'd be desperate to get rid of such a huge thing so I offered a buck and they took it.

I made a stop in one thrift store, but I couldn't find anything worth buying this time. I got a laugh out of the $2.99 N64 controller that had the analog stick completely snapped off, though.

I also stopped in a pawn shop I've been meaning to go to all summer. They had quite a bit of stuff, but it was just about all overpriced. I did, however, find a Skies of Arcadia Legends for GameCube for 9.99 and snapped that up.

All in all, not a lot of stuff, but I'm really happy about the two things I did get and I had a nice day out. :)

Went to a couple of thrifts today, was amazed that one of them had an X-Men arcade cabinet there for $400. Don't have room for something like that, and also don't have the money, so I passed it by.

Ended up picking up:

Sealed MGA Centipede LCD game, the one designed to look like an arcade cab - $4.19
Dune for Sega CD - $3.09
Blueprint for Atari 5200 (loose) - $1.09
Spawn for Dreamcast - $4.19
The Immortal for Genesis (loose) - $1.09
Boxed 'Phaser' universal remote from Star Trek: TNG - $2.09 (I have no idea why I bought this, I don't even like Star Trek: TNG)

Picked this lot up off the classifieds at work on Friday. I got lucky as someone else beat me to the punch in emailing the owner – but that person never paid, so a week later, I got the set. All told cost me $200 CDN, so I guess $180 or so US.

Not sure if it’s ‘worth it’ to some of the bargain hunters out there…but it was a good jump start to a 3DO collection and I MUCH prefer buying from the original owner and I can see the goods before handing over the cash. No shipping fees. No customs fees. No worry about having the console bashed around by a courier.

The console included all original documentation and was in the original box. Bought from the original owner who apparently took good care of his stuff…half of the discs don’t have a single scratch on them…and the ones that do are minor (and obviously bought used). Most of the games have all insterts (ads and stuff) and some even have their receipt! I mean – the Sewer Shark even still has the temporary tattoo!!! The console itself looks almost brand-new. If there’s one concern it’s that this system has seen hundreds (if not thousands) of hours of playtime.

This is the photo that he had in his classified ad:

http://i121.photobucket.com/albums/o221/debbiecakeslou/3DO.jpg

Panasonic 3DO FZ-1
6 Original Panasonic Controllers
2 Gameguns

- Star Figher
- Space Hulk
- Theme Park
- Novastorm
- Gex
- Road Rash

- Brain Dead 13
- D
- Burning Soldier
- Quarantine

- The Incredible Machine
- Return Fire

Non-Games:

- 20th Century Almanac
- ESPN Let’s Play Beach Volleyball
- ESPN Golf (Including the R6 fourth disc “Mental Messages” that you had to send away for.)

And if that weren’t enough, when I picked up the stuff he says “I also found some demos, some burned games (naughty!) and a couple other boxed games. This included:

http://i121.photobucket.com/albums/o221/debbiecakeslou/IMG_0096.jpg

- Wing Commander III
- Samurai Showdown

My finds from the worlds longest yard sale on Saturday. All of these were $1, but the trip for the most part was a big letdown.

I actually learned how to haggle though... And whoever said that flea markets are like strip clubs, you only show up with ones, was absolutely correct.

Well I had not been to the Ortiz flea market in a while so I decided to stop by this morning, diddn't find anything but on my way out I saw something sitting on a table that caught my eye, a Virtual Boy! I asked the guy if it worked and he said yea try it out, turned it on and surprisingly both of the screens worked. I ask him how much and he said $20, so I took it. Not bad for a working system with the eyepiece and 2 games.

Hi,

I dropped $35 for 14 PS1 games so far in August. They were each priced $2.50. I am pretty new to gaming, having bought my first console (the PS1) last summer. I would like to know if folks here thought I did okay with these purchases. (Yeah, I have figured out that a couple are simply tedious, or just button mashing.)

I am not buying for collecting, but for cheap entertainment. However, the cost of the games sure adds up quickly. I have a total of about 80 games or so, at the present.

Dracula Last Sanctuary
Geom Cube ( A 3 D tetris)
Mega Man 8
Mega Man X5
Men in Black
Rampage Through Time
Spyro
Spyro 2

Then went back for:

Frogger 2
Tai Fu
Tomb Raider
Tomb Raider 3
Tomb Raider Last Revelation
Tomb Raider Chronicles

Thanks,
Mary

Picked this up at Goodwill today:

Like new for 12.99. No AV inputs, and I don't have a 360, so all I get is this nice, bright blue screen. Along with the GH II I got for the 360 a few weeks ago at Goodwill, I think there may be a 360 in my future. Whether it also comes from Goodwill remains to be seen.

Found Mario Party at a thrift today. Was close, cause a couple kids came by with an N64 game in their hands (Pokemon Snap, I think) moments after I picked it up. They had walked past Sonic 3D, a nice pickup for <80 cents. The rest was just cause I kind of needed them (well, not the GB case, but I have trouble passing them up for some reason) and it was 25% off day. Total was 9.50.

Well, I think I had my find of the year so far today. I found these at a local thrift store that seems to get large themed lots in once or twice a year. Today's haul: strategy guides. They were $1.99 each and I bought about 65 of them. there were others that I'd left behind but they were for games such as Tomb Raider and wrestling titles, nothing that I'm really interested in.

Anyway here's a list of the guides that I bought. Other than a few pigeon ears and small dents they were all in great condition.

Nothing I have found from the past few days falls into the "rare" category but most of these are games I will enjoy playing. Bet you wouldn't figure I never played Eternal Champions until this afternoon. I've tried pretty much everything else here in the past, though, so I know "good times" are ahead

-Eternal Champions for Genesis (cart only): $3 at Goodwill
-Best of the Best Championship Karate for Genesis (cart only): $3 at Goodwill
-Super Columns for Game Gear (cart only): $0.50 at my local second hand shop
-NBA Jam for Game Gear (cart only): $0.50 at my local second hand shop
-NFL 95 for Game Gear (cart only): $0.50 at my local second hand shop
-Caesar's Palace for Game Gear (cart and plastic case): $0.50 at my local second hand shop
-Rocket Power Team Rocket Rescue for PS1 (complete): $1.50 at Goodwill
-Madden 2002 manual only for PS1: $2 on Ebay (shut up, I needed this manual to complete my copy of this game)
-Sega CD/Genesis Model 2 Combo with all the hookups plus Sewer Shark (disc/manual) & Ecco the Dolphin (disc only): $0 at my local game store because I was traded this set straight up for a pile of games I had brought in

It's a great story! The receptionist at my office came up to me and said "I heard you collect video games! I have an old NES and some games sitting in my closet! You want it?"

So, she brought it up to work today. It was alot more than I was expecting. And the SNES was a total surprise to boot!

I hit the thrift store where I got all the Master System games at before and I found a copy of Rambo, which I assumed was a straggler. Unfortunately, though, it wasn't priced the same as the others had been, so it was 4.99. A bit much, but my boyfriend and his buddies are big Stallone fans so I figured I'd pick it up. Even more unfortunate is the fact that I assumed it had to be from the same batch and thus include the manual like all the others did, but perhaps it was just a coincidence because Rambo didn't come with it. Kinda lame, paid more AND got less.

I did, however, also find a boxed NES Power Pad for 6.99, which is a nice find for me. I already have some Power Pad games, but I had no way to play them up until now. And since this one is boxed, it's also appears to be in really fantastic shape.

Fairly standard day at the flea market but a couple interesting things none the less. To begin with, a bootleg Atari VCS with "6001" games built in...

http://www.classicplastic.net/digitalpress/DP-Finds-2007-08-07(01).jpg

The system didn't have an AC adapter but that's no problem as I have plenty. However the RF box has a nonstandard connector on it and it's the same one the cord out of the system has. It's not a standard component cable so a type F to coaxial adapter doesn't fit on it, the connection is too loose. Also note the picture of a Colecovision on the switchbox. Anyway, I popped the system open, unplugged the RF cable (which was normal size on the inside) and replaced it with a standard one. Using a normal VCS power adapter I get the system to turn on however there's a lot of static in the audio. Picture wise the screen is black and white and rolls vertically at a rapid rate - making it unplayable. I'm guessing this thing ouputs to the PAL video standard? I haven't been able to find information on this bootleg system but any help would be great - anyone else have one? I'll probably end up selling it since while NES pirates are a dime a dozen I don't see VCS ones all that often.

http://www.classicplastic.net/digitalpress/DP-Finds-2007-08-07(02).jpg

A couple R4's for a decent price...

NES - TaleSpin ($2.50)
NES - Zen Intergalactic Ninja ($2.50)

The Gameboy pirate multicart was a trade with my favorite vendor for a copy of Commander Keen I picked up a couple weeks ago at a Goodwill for $2.50. I didn't have a Gameboy on me and he didn't have one of his either so I bit the bullet and grabbed it as it was a pirate that was new to his selection. Upon getting home I thought I had scored pretty big. The first two games on the cartridge are Pokemon Yellow and Pokemon Trading Card game. Not bad at all and even better the battery backup is present. Looking at the list there are 12 unique games... problem is none of the other ones will load, their ROM is shot. Oh well, the two Pokemon games on the cartridge is pretty cool, just wish the rest worked. I'm thinking of trading it back next Tuesday or at least seeing if he has a duplicate of it. I'll be sure to have my GBC on me then.

Yesterday I bought a Sega Game Gear case with a dozen games inside for $7.99, and Encounter at L5 (Atari 2600) plus Utopia (Intellivision) for a total of 77¢.

Today I picked up A Boy and His Blob (NES) for $3.93, and a unique looking Pong machine, the Wonder Wizard Bulls-Eye for $6.56. It's unique because it's entirely contained inside a gigantic metal TV switch box. It looks like there's supposed to be a light gun peripheral, but that wasn't in the store. Neither was the power supply, unfortunately.

That does sound like a PAL system. I once tried to load some PAL games on my Dreamcast and it behaved in a similar manner. I've heard that there were bootleg systems like these down in Brazil so maybe it's from down there?

I found a Miracle Piano (I think NES) at my local goodwill today for $7.99. Unfortunately it was just the piano and I searched the store but couldn't find the cart of any of the cables.

How does this hook up to the NES, or does it? I was thinking about trying to complete the set, but wasn't sure if it used proprietary cables or not.

Anyone know?
