Anybody working at gamestop happen to have an idea?

Official price drop?
Big game announcement?
Recall? (god forbid...)
Let the speculation begin!!

I'd bet that it's a system re-design.
Did they officially announce the $50 price-drop yet? Maybe it's that.

It'll be the price drop. Seems obvious to me.

On the 7th, Apple has an announcement too. That's for the redseigned imacs and ipods. Hmm, coincidence?
What about that thinkpad, writable tablet?

Hopefully its a price drop, or maybe some new platinum hits for the 360 would be nice...

I would love it to be a recall especially with the quality of the 360 hardware is horrible at best. but chances are it's a price drop

I think the price drop is official as of next week, esp. since that CC ad I made a post about a few days ago, is next weeks circular. But I like Norkusa's idea.
I'm still predicting a system re-design, and the HD-DVD drive to take place of the DVD9. Coupled with the 65nm chips, and a much smaller power supply.
MS has got to realize that DVD9 is only gonna be able to cut it for only so long. Blue Dragon is supposed to be on, what is it... 3 DVD's?

Just a note on the whole Hd-dvd vs Dvd9 thing.
If Microsoft put in the Hd-Dvd on a redesign it could still work....
Game developers would still be able to design Dvd9 games and they would play on the redesigned system with the Hd-dvd. And they could also sell 2 versions of Hd-Dvd games. Just a slimmed down version for Dvd9.
Just leave it up to the Developer to decide what they want to support.

Obviously it is about the handheld, Xbox Portable...just like it was supposed to be last year.

Wah?!? So soon? I can understand the iPods but the latest iMac re-designs are not even 2 years old.

Actually, the current iMac case design was released in August, 2004 as the iMac G5. Since then, it's been repurposed as the iMac G5 with Built-in iSight, the Intel Core Duo iMac, and the Intel Core 2 Duo iMac.
In Apple years, that's an eternity.

I doubt very much that they will announce a redesin when the Elite model isn't even on sale here in the UK yet. Who will buy an Elite if everybody knows a new model is on the horizon? Unlikely in my opinion. As for a recall? If they were going to do it, they would've done it a long time ago. Doubtful.
An official price drop is the most obvious. Maybe the announcement is Halo or Halo Wars related?
500/1 prediction ~ If I were to go out on a limb, i'd say they might announce some kind of motion controller, similar to the PS3 or Wii. This seems to be the "In" thing at the moment

What I know is a brushed metal, razor thin imac is coming next week. I just got my MacBookPro and I'm tapped out moneywise but will be getting the imac towards Christmas after Apple intices me with the usual minor upgrades.
The ipod? About time! My 60GB isn't charging too well. Time to upgrade!

And we have a winner for the "most obscure, but funny, reference" award...

And I didn't think they were gonna introduce new Ipods at the Apple announcement, I thought it was gonna be the Quad-core power books and the cheaper revision of the Iphone...

And this whole time I thought it was going to be Clippit arriving just in time to ask me "It looks like you're trying to frag trash talking 10 year olds. Would you like help?" for the release of Halo 3.
I'm betting it's the official price drop announcement.

"MS has got to realize that DVD9 is only gonna be able to cut it for only so long. Blue Dragon is supposed to be on, what is it... 3 DVD's?"
While they might do that to help HD-DVD movies catch on, its safe to assume they won't alienate 10,000,000 Xbox 360 owners by ever placing games on that format with this system. Just doesn't make any sense to think otherwise.

See I doubt they will do that, if anything they should have included HD-DVD when the system was released but to do it now would be a really bad move on Microsoft's Part, I just don't see them doing anything that stupid.

Free XBLA would be THE thing that would be considered "Big", IMHO. Of course, Ain't gonna happen in a billion friggin years. Otherwise, It's probably just the price drop. Including the HDDVD player would be a dumb move for MS. Completely pointless.

It is good to see a price drop, but better if they can actually roll out the 65 chip. Either way I praise console wars because in the end the consumer wins!

I don't think you will see any official announcements of the 65nm chip. It will likely come out with zero fanfare, and some modder will be the first to discover it. Either that, or when somebody turns it on and it doesn't sound like a Jet Engine taking off, then maybe they will know because of that, lol.

Actually, it's most likely the price drop.
And also that Rockstar Table Tennis will now be a freebie with any 360.
Actually, it will be bundled with the console itself, not a 'sold seperately, but still free if you buy a 360' kinda deal...

Ugh, I hope not... the platinum hits cover art looks ugly. I wish they would just drop the price and leave the packaging as it is.
I would love it to be a recall especially with the quality of the 360 hardware is horrible at best.
The 3-year warranty extension pretty much IS a recall, so I don't see this happening. Incidentally, my 360 died just last week, and I'm waiting for the cardboard coffin to arrive so I can send it off :(
I'm still predicting a system re-design, and the HD-DVD drive to take place of the DVD9. Coupled with the 65nm chips, and a much smaller power supply.
My guess is that they're constantly coming up with new motherboard revisions, but just sticking them in the same cases... so there would really be no need to announce any redesign, since the users would never really notice anyways. Any case redesign would be complicated by the fact that there are already so many custom faceplates out there... (do you make something completely different, or make something that can use the existing faceplates but ends up looking almost the same as the original?)
As for HD-DVD, I haven't really been keeping score, but it seems to be losing the war against Blu-Ray. I would think MS would need more encouragement to actually build it into the 360. Besides, their whole "Xbox Live Video Marketplace" thing would seem to be in competition with both HD-DVD and Blu-Ray. Lastly, with the Elite being still fairly recent, and their announcement of the Halo 3 themed console, I would think they've done enough hardware for now.
My money would be on the price drop.

As much as I would love a re-design, I have a gut feeling that this announcement will be about the price drop.:-/
