Sorry to take up a topic slot with this.
A few weeks ago I was able to reach www.atariage.com from my present location (South Korea) now I absolutely can not. I'll be dissappointed if I can't reach it from here but I'd like to know if it is still up or not. Can anyone stateside check it out and let me know here?
thanks.
I can still get to atariage.com, so it is definitely not down. You should try to get it to load again. I hope it works. :)

@Mezrabad,
Anya-haseo! I meant to reply to your earlier thread (PS2 gaming in South Korea) but never got around to it, so I'm finally replying now. I lived in Korea as well, for 8 months, teaching ESL at a children's hagwan, and I came home a year ago. I wanted to introduce myself to you as a kindred spirit!
As far as atariage.com goes, it does still work (from here) and I never had any problem connecting to it from Korea (downloading all those ROMs helped keep me sane!). Are you trying to connect from your home or from a PC-Bang? Do they block certain domains, I wonder?
Are you teaching ESL? Where is Bundang? I was in Suncheon, in Challanam-do Province, an hour away from Kwangju. I too was keen to scout out the video game scene. Maybe Seoul is different, but the region I was in didn't seem to have many of the newer consoles and games (and maybe they've become more prevalent in the last year). PC games seemed to be the rage by far, and the few console games I found at department stores were sparse, some PS1, N64, and a few Super Nintendo games. You could also buy awesome Famicom clones with about 40 games built in. I had one of those while I was there (and had it shipped home to the U.S.). I did manage to find three great used game stores that were rich with Famicom, Super Famicom, and Mega Drive games. If you're in the area, I'll point you toward them.
If you have any questions about living in Korea, I'll be happy and try to help! It isn't easy living there, but it can be rewarding.
Manasa-pangawayo!

well, glad to know it's still up, bummer that I can't get to it.
k8track! Cool! Sounds like you had an adventure, too! We're having a great time, though sometimes the culture shock is mind-boggling. Bundang is 90 minutes by subway from Seoul. It's kind of like an Urban Suburb. High Rise apartment buildings as far as one can see.
I've found mostly Korean PS2 stuff around here, though some Japanese stuff at Yongsan (big electronics mall). Not much Xbox or Gamecube stuff that I've found yet. I've seen NO classic gaming yet, other than the mysterious consoles that look like dreamcasts with cart slots and boast 100s of built in 8-bit games. Now I know they are NES clones, thank you.
We're here because my wife teaches ESL at Samsung. I'm taking care of my two children as a Stay-home dad but I've also ended up getting work teaching at a local American Montessori School in exchange for my kids going there for free.
When I try to connect to Atariage I get:
Problem Report
There was a communication problem.
Message ID
TCP_ERROR
Problem Description
The system was unable to communicate with the server.
Possible Problem Cause
The Web server may be down.
The Web server may be too busy.
The Web server may be experiencing other problems, preventing it from responding to clients.
The communication path may be experiencing problems.
Possible Solution
Try connecting to this server later.
Which I'll continue to try to do. :( It just bugs me that I was able to get to it about two weeks ago. Maybe Philly Classic 4 sucked new people into the hobby and the atariage server is overloaded.
anyway, thanks all for checking and to k8track for sayin' hey re: Korea.

Just want to let you know, apparently there IS some kind of issue with the AA site, there is a thread in the Off Topic section. Other users are complaining of issues with slowness, etc. So, keep trying! In the meantime, your wish is our command, and we're happy to have you here at DP :D

Hey now! I could always use some more! :D I am also in need of carts. If you ever see some game boxes that kinda look like this: http://pelikonepeijoonit.net/kuvat/slot02.jpg
Also I am desperately seeking ($$$) the silver system in the back of this pic:

Also Samsung made a system that looks identicle to the Master System called the 'Gamboy' that was korean only. I have some carts for that system but no system... :(

Do you not understand the "dibs" system? :-) Plus, I want ONE before you have more! :-p

Oh damn, forgot about that... Guess you have dibs on that one, but I claim dibs on a nice copy of Hwaorang Ui Musa (er, might have the title wrong, considering how many years it's been since I've though of that game, and I don't know Korean anyway -- means "Warrior of (the?) Village" or somesuch; it's not a copy of a US, European or Japanese game, it's unique to Korea) or any other Korea-only titles.

Cool, the pictures will help. I'll keep an eye out for them. (which always prompts the question: "Isn't that painful?")
