They might as well... it seems that HDMI is now the universal HD standard, even over component..

Hopefully the news is true. Now all Microsoft needs to do is add in the 65nm chipset and I'm sold!

The rumor about the HDMI add on has been confirmed. No word on the 65nm chipset yet.

So all the loyal guys like us who have had the 360 for a while now, have no way to get HDMI unless buying a new console, I think thats a horrible game plan from the start! If they knew HDMI was gonna be a big hit they should have started the pro with it back in the day then do the Elite with the bigger hard drive..All i can do now is be mad...Unless theres a way to trade in for a newer one? highly doubtful, but onew can dream...

Well, that sucks. I was planning on getting a Core when I got my 360. Oh well. I guess now I'll be getting a Premium.

Never, Never get the core, it's such a rip off
They should of never had the Core system in the first place

So in Canada now, the only difference between the Premium and Elite is the hard drive and color for $100 ($399 vs $499) Too bad they're not adding hdmi to the core, because I would have probably picked one up and just used my premium items on that.
As it stands though, I'll probably end up with the elite anyways, once it's for sure to have the 65nm chip.

Agreed.
Best Buy and Target are supposedly done with them, too.

Yeah Best Buy confirmed that.
Sadly, I am the only man who bought a used Xbox 360 core with a 20GB for $350 last october. (Heck they even threw in the HD Cables & Head Set with it) I like the core, because the total white disc tray and system matches the Wii :) Yet if I had to choose again, I would have gone with a Premium by now.

Hmm...wouldn't they just keep it in the Elite only to sell more of the Elite?

I don't think so...like someone else said, HDMI is the new HD standard, and it doesn't make sense for any model of the 360 to be without it (I really believe the Core is at the end of the line). 6x the HD space and the black color are enough to sell Elites to those so inclined.
Kinda sucks I bought my 360 3 weeks ago, but oh well, such are electronics.

Well, once your current one dies and you have to send it back, there's always a chance you'll get an HDMI one in return. I'm sending my dead 360 off tomorrow to get a replacement... I'm curious to see what I'll get in return.
I'm surprised they aren't doing this with the core's actually. It would seem illogical to keep two different runs of motherboards going just so you can give the core one the older version. Might as well toss all the bells and whistles onto it and just stick the same motherboard in all the consoles. After all, what's the extra cost of the HDMI connector? 50 cents? What's the cost of having to keep two production lines going? A couple thousand dollars per day? Maybe they'll just use up their surplus of non-HDMI motherboards in the core systems until they're all gone.

There have been rumors on CAG about another price drop for all SKUs (Core at $250, Pro at $300 and elite at $400) And if it happens I'll buy an elite.

No. That would involve having to use HD-DVD. The most you can get out of a 360 is 720p/1080i.

360 has been capable of 1080p over VGA and Component since late last year. I believe some games already boast that capability, but the only one that comes to mind off hand is NBA Street Homecourt.

Ok, so I really want to get a 360 to go along with my Wii. Should I wait for the 65 nm chips to start being produced? Also, is it worth it to get the Elite system? If the Elite was $400 I would spring for it any day. I hope that the price drops soon!

1280 x 1024 isn't 1080p, only 1920 x 1080 is 1080p.
One nice thing about VGA that you may not know is, in one of the recent updates they added an option called VGA Expanded which greatly enhances the black levels. If you have this option off, enable it immediately. It's somewhere in the console settings tab.

Perhaps the current stock of manufactured 360's will be sold as Core models (as those consoles won't have HDMI outputs). Once that stock runs out I suspect we'll either see the end of the Core bundle or Microsoft will start selling core 360's with HDMI.
