Gamestop is getting rid of them I think, and I can pick them up for a not too shabby price.

I know to get like:
Metroid 2
The Super Mario Land's

but what else that they might have?

Grab the most recent GBC Zelda's. There were two. I can't recall the names right now, but they were each representative of two different seasons, if I remember right.

Ah those...forgot about those. Oracle of Seasons and Ages.

get the wario's and the kirby's too.

Any Wario or Kirby product is a must own. Also check out Trax, Fortified Zone, Rolan's Curse 2 and Operation C.

Both the GB and GBC Bionic Commando games are totally awesome, I love them both.

You'll be tempted to track down all three GB Castlevania games but only the second one (Belmont's Revenge) is any good. Fantastic soundtrack too, I have no idea how Konami was able to make the GB rock out as it does in that game.

Donkey Kong (GB) starts out as a pocket version of the arcade classic but turns into an exercise in action puzzles with dozens of stages. It's basically the genesis of the Mario Vs. Donkey Kong series.

Pokemon Pinball (GBA) is a surprisingly fun and entertaining pinball title in the vein of the Epic Pinball PC games except the goal is to snuff out and capture Pokemon.

TopGear Pocket 2 (GBA) hands down the best GB / GBA racing title, plays like an SD version of Sega Rally Championship.

Can't go wrong with the Mario, Zelda, or Game & Watch Gallery titles either.

Final Fantasy Legend (GB) is a personal favorite of mine, it took me about 10 years to finally beat that sucker, damn palm tree and 8. I despise the bastardization of a re-make tho.

Street Fighter Alpha for GBC is surprisingly playable.
I've heard nothing but good things about a game called Shantae.

Almost all of the Megaman games are quite good on the Gameboy.

Tsk tsk, that's Final Fantasy Adventure.

The Final Fantasy Legend trilogy might also be worth seeking out, though. FFLII is one of the few genuinely difficult console RPGs I've ever come across, and I never did get around to finishing it.

Blaster Master: Enemy Below also sounds pretty good.

Does anybody know if Gamestop has actually started liquidating their old Gameboy games? Last couple of ones I went to still had them for between $5 and $15 depending on the game. Gamecrazy, on the other hand, is still doing the "classic plastic" or whatever sale where all old cartridge games are 2 for 5 bucks. Virtually all the good NES/Genesis/SNES/N64 games are already gone, but they still have a lot of decent GB/GBC games.

Anyways, when it comes to buying old Gameboy games for cheap, I prefer to pick up weird, obscure titles that I've never even heard of. Those tend to be more fun (or at least more interesting) than a lot of the mainstream GB games.

Monster Max, Zelda 4 and Wario Land are the best GB titles ever.

What kind of discount are they giving them?

I picked up 5 GB games for $20 the other day, a lot are being dropped to $1.99-$2.99, although they still had some up to $10.

I really liked the Game Boy Color Metal Gear - played it again a while back and it reminded me a lot of the NES game. The Pokemon games must also be recommended - both my kids and my wife have played through multiple versions multiple times... they're as passionate about Pokemon as I am about the Final Fantasy games :)

GB original: Nobunaga's Ambition. Excellent early Sim/Civilization-type play set in feudal Japan. I'm surprised it doesn't have more fans.

If you like real-time wargames, then get a copy of Warlocked for the GBC. Lots of fun.

Metroid 2 I got bored with.
Super Mario Land 2 was bust for me as well.

The Zelda Oracle games are fun but not as good as Links Awakening (DX or otherwise)

So my top picks would be
Tetris (DX or otherwise)
Zelda: Links Awakening (DX or otherwise)
Radar Mission (surprisingly fun Battleship clone)
Kirby's PinballLand
Super Mario Land
Metal Gear Solid: Project Babel

Cheers,
Ben

-Zelda: Link's Awakening (black and white or color version)
-Super Mario Deluxe (new version of the original SMB)
-Super Mario Land
-Super Mario Land 2 (Nintendo tried to ape Super Mario 3 and Super Mario World on Gameboy, to mixed results)
-Dr. Mario
-Tetris
-Nemesis (a Gradius game)
-Operation C (i.e. Contra)
-Double Dragon (GB port of the NES game)
-TMNT: Fall of the Foot Clan (great graphics for an early GB game)
-Either Pokemon Red, Yellow or Blue (different variations of the same game)
-Either Pokemon Silver, Gold or Crystal (sequel to the above games, once again these are different variations of the same game)
-Duck Tales (GB port of the NES game)
-Milon's Secret Castle (GB port of the NES game)
-Bart vs the Juggernauts (nothing but mini-games since this is centered on a gameshow but some are kind of fun)

I second the vote for Final Fantasy Legend II, one of my personal favorites. I've run through that one a few times, it is pretty hard but still a fun ride.

I also second the Metal Gear Solid for the GBC and if you can find a copy that doesn't crash, Bionic Commando is really fun too with some nice looking graphics.

If you're into Dragon Warrior, the GBC ports of 1-3 are rather enjoyable as well.

Kid Icarus and Mario Picross (good luck on that one, though).

Huh? Never played Bionic Commando on GB or GBC but what do you mean by finding a copy that doesn't crash? So most of the copies DO crash?

By the way, is Dragon Warrior on GBC "easier" than the NES version? A couple of people have told me it is. I am aware of the names of characters and items having been changed but that is about it. Someone may have told me the game goes by a LOT faster.

Every copy of Bionic Commando: Elite Forces crashes on a Game Boy Advance. It should work fine on a Game Boy Color. Read more about this here:

CTRL + F "Power Quest"

"No matches found"

This thread phails.

Get Power Quest. It's one of the best fighting games ever. EVER. And it's definitely the best fighting game/RPG hybrid ever.

The GBC remake of Bionic Commando's nice. I never got very far, but it's not bad.

Pokemon Pinball's fun, Pokemon license or not. In fact, I think this is the first time I've thought about that game in years. I've got to pop it back in my GBC.

Kirby's Block Ball is the best Arkanoid clone in history.

The old GB Golf game is a blast. I like it, and I don't even like golf.

GB Jurassic Park is good fun. I got to the last level, but I never beat it.

GB Zelda games are great. I only ever beat Link's Awakening DX, but the other two were decentish before I gave up on them.

Bart Simpson's Escape From Camp Deadly is one of the best Simpsons games. It controls well enough, but most of the fun comes from the license.

Donkey Kong 1994 is a must.

All three Super Mario Land games are great, but I never got into Wario Land 2. I never got any more Wario Land games past 2.

TMNT2: Back from the Sewers is in the same boat as Camp Deadly, but much more of its fun comes from the license. Camp Deadly is a better genuine game than TMNT2, but it's still a fun game. It's not a port of the arcade game, so keep that in mind.

Some other games I have and like: Super RC Pro Am, Kirby 1, Bubble Bobble Part 2.

I recently checked out Fortified Zone...maybe the second one (Japan-only). This is the same "series" (or brand, anyway) as Operation Logic Bomb; Ikari no Yousai is the Japanese name for all these games. Good but overlooked series, for the most part.

Both Gradius games on the original GB are great. The original (might be Nemesis here as in other places) is very simplistic looking and not technically impressive, but has some fun gameplay. The second is known as Gradius - The Interstellar Assault in the US (Return of the Hero in Europe, and Nemesis II in Japan), and has an awesome introduction sequence which breaks the mold of previous games. It also has some stunning graphics on par with Castlevania II: Belmont's Revenge and Operation C. "The Ruins" music track coming right after that is awesome; one of my favorite pieces of GB music right there (especially the intro).

Gargoyle's Quest is pretty awesome. It's the predecessor of Demon Crest. Simpler, but still good.

I also enjoyed Bomberman Quest. Pretty simple game in the same vein as Zelda.

oh man, that is hilarious!! I had a nearly identical experience. I couldn't figure that figure 8 puzzle out for anything. I eventually gave up and put the game away for YEARS. Then my youngest brother wanted to play some games (years down the road) and got stuck on exactly the same spot! So we looked it up on the internet. I didn't have the internet back in the day!

Anyone ever give Namco's Great Greed a whirl? It often seemed like it was the only "other" RPG for the old GB aside from the Final Fantasy Legend trilogy.

Lion King: Simba's Mighty Adventure

Is that much different from the SNES/Genesis/PC Lion King game?
