View Full Version : Ar Tonelico - Special Edition?

I'm really begining to detest so called "special editions". Either the regular edition comes in a fancy box that's impossible to keep in good condition (Dragon Warrior 8), or they're tacking on an extra $10 for some crap I'll never read (Two Worlds) or both (Enchanted Arms).

Anyway my question is what's the deal with Ar Tonelico? I'd like to buy it, and I know I'm a little late on this, and I can find it online easily for $50 new. But I don't know which version I'd be getting if there are two. I suspect that there is only one, but I don't want to spend $50 on a "naked edition" when I could buy that off ebay for less.

So do all sealed copies include the stupid cardboard box and artbook?

There is only one version of Ar Tonelico. All versions come with the artbook and cardboard sleeve.

While Ar Tonelico is a NIS release, all Atlus PS2 releases for the past year have automatically come with extras so that they can bump the price up to $49.99 new (from Sony's maximum of $39.99). I love Atlus and I love their games...but adding what is essentially $2.00 of crap so that they can charge $49.99 is lame.

Ahhh... so Sony's mandated a $40 price tag for 2D games? Makes sense.

I'd noticed games like Odin's Sphere were coming out cheaper. Thank you.

I think there are two versions. I have seen a second being sold 'new' at Gamestops without the box and book. They seem to have appeared well after the original collector's edition.

You saw the box out on the floor with the "new" sticker, or you saw a factory shrinked (y-seal) copy? EB/GS are notorious for "new" items that aren't so new.

Shrinkwrapped...I think...I have seen it at more than 1 store...but it's possible they are up to something. I have considered in the past that they remove the boxes off some of the collector's editions before selling them. I think they want to encourage you to buy them new.

This may help

from my post there:

If you want the artbook and box, go to your local Gamestop/EB. I picked up a copy of this today at Gamestop for $49.99. It comes in the box with the game in the standard PS2 DVD case and the hardcover art book. So far, this seems to be the standard packaging. The box doesn't say "premium" anywhere. I haven't opened it yet, but it appears the only difference is that it doesn't have the soundtrack disc which does not appear to be part of the packaging anyways.

See this ebay auction to see what I mean:

http://cgi.ebay.com/Ar-Tonelico-Limi...QQcmdZViewItem (http://cgi.ebay.com/Ar-Tonelico-Limited-Edition-Game-Artbook-and-Soundtrack_W0QQitemZ290081150359QQihZ019QQcategory Z62053QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem)

According to the official website for the game, the pre-order comes with the artbook in the box, just as described above. I believe people are throwing money away on ebay for the so called "Premium" package because I don't think it exists. They are simply paying up to $50 extra just for a soundtrack CD.

I Have a sealed Magnacarta with an EB sticker on it. Thing is the sealed game is sitting inside the "open" cardboard box. I don't know why EB sold them that way but yeah... could be the same situation here.
