Just a question I've been wondering lately. If a new user starts posting in this forum and says they have something for sale. And then they say they can be trusted because of their feedback under E-Bay user name "blablabla" or whatever. Now what's to stop them from just using somebody's e-bay I.D. that has good feedback and does sell games. Do you trust this person ?
Or should you , say ask this seller a question on one of their items. Like this is JonJandran from a certain DigitalPress Forum , Are you posting something for sale , and if so what is it and what name are you using ?
Would this be wrong ? Or would this just piss the person off so that there would be no way he'd trade anything with you ?
Just Wondering what everyone's thoughts are ? Or if anyone had done something like this before. :hmm:

Here's how you figure if they are real. Go to their user id and send them an e-mail. Not that hard.

Always nice to hear from a Smart*** Newbie. Of Course I know they're real. It's knowing if they have what they say they have and if you're actually going to get it.
Now why don't you run along and go play with you're friends and let the grown-ups talk. LOL

Oh I just noticed you're a Newbie with a post selling something. I guess you thought I was talking about you and this got you offended. Well I was just talking about this forum in general and not you , so don't get your unders in a bunch. :D

Wow glad you read his post thoroughly and came up with that pearl of wisdom

Anyways...

Well it kinda depends on what they are selling and for how much, I am immediately suspicious of someone who pops up out of the blue and wants try to sell here before ebay anyways. Think about it.

But, if someone uses ebay as their only reference, then you better believe I will verify thats really who they say they are. Does it offend you when a potential employer checks on your former job references on your resume? It shouldnt, but I guess it might if they were bogus references.

And if its a trade and I have hardly any refs and you have a lot, then in fairness I should send the item first.

When ever I am doing a trade normaly, even though I have good feedback on the board I always mention my ebay name. I also encourage people to look it up and ask seller a question and I will verify that I am that seller. I don't see why anybody would get offended, you are intiled to a safe trade online!

You tell them flat out. You send it first, I don't know you, i don't see a record of you trading anything, sorry.

If they say "well our moms went to different schools together" i still wouldn't trust them.

Oh yeah, and don't trust anyone over 30.

I know if I personally was the seller and you wanted to verify it was me on eBay, *I* wouldn't get offended. Most people I know are pretty suspicious about buying/selling online anyways. So, can't hurt to make sure you're not sending cash to a liar. :-D

Everyone is a "newbie" sometimes, Jonjandran.

As to your question, I would think someone legitimate would have no problem with you checking up on their eBay id since, in your example, they are providing it to you to verify their trustworthiness to begin with.

Check out their references from other boards.

Come on Chunky, I just turned 30 a few months ago! I think you can trust me! :-D :-D :-D I know what you mean though, before you start doing any serious dealing on this site, it helps to do some smaller deals, just to build up the trust. Word of mouth is important.

I think E-Bay is an excellent reference, and I would never be offended if someone checked up on me through it. I sell on e-bay under the same name (I have some rare and nice games up now) and used to use GTZ under the same name. If someone sells and trades and has perfect feedback for a long time, I would be more willing to trade with that person because they are reliable. Put it this way, if I offered you a deal on this board, I'm just a faceless guy. If I offer you a deal and give you a link to my auctions on e-bay and testimonials from lots of satisfied customers/traders on e-bay and GTZ, and you can read about what an honest guy and fast shipper I am, you would be more willing to trade with me. Right Chunky? And I'm over 30.
Now everyone look at my feedback and buy something or offer me a trade.
