I didn't feel like shelling out the $ for a 360 wireless dongle, so I found this page online that shows you how to use a laptop instead. This page is Mac specific, but I'm sure you can do the same with Windows.

Sweet! I've considered getting onto Xbox Live in the past just to download some games, but I couldn't justify spending $100 on a wireless dongle just to spend around an hour online with the 360. Thanks for the link.

Actually we did that at last years MGC so we could play online, nice that someone put a page as to how to do it.

That is completely kick-ass. Thank you! This is how I'm going to get back on Live.

Well I guess if you absolutely, positively have to use a $1,000 laptop instead of a decent router (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000AODZQ2/ref=pd_cp_e_1/102-4201467-6886532?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=center-41&pf_rd_r=031WBS49EV5SH5FACWFQ&pf_rd_t=201&pf_rd_p=250314601&pf_rd_i=B000AOKTJ8), then that's the way to go. Of course, it wouldn't hurt to see if something like DD-WRT (http://www.dd-wrt.com/dd-wrtv2/ddwrt.php) was compatible (http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Supported_Devices) with your router first. Then you wouldn't need to waste a laptop or spend any extra cash.

Why spend $100 on a Microsoft wireless kit when you can buy other wireless gaming adapters for 20 to 40 bucks? Although the laptop may come in handy if you travel a lot and can use it with a hotel's internet service.

Already have a laptop and cable. Seeing as when I'm on Live I wouldn't be using the laptop, it's not really such a waste. So I'd say it's a pretty good deal.

I had a setup like this for a while. It was nice when I was just using it with my old xbox and all I really went online for was Halo 2. But when I got my 360, it got to be a pain to have the ibook on and plugged in every time I wanted to turn on the 360. I eventually broke down and bought the official wireless adapter with an amazon gift cert I got a few months ago.

Both solutions work just fine, but for ease of use I prefer the official adapter.
