Not sure if this is the right place to ask, but could the Dreamcast ever properly emulate the GBA?

Without having properly tried it, I did a quick search and found this:
gpSPDC (http://gpf.dcemu.co.uk/gpSPDC.shtml).

Personally, I have largely avoided 16-bit emulation on the DC as they do experience slowdown. I haven't tried GBA, but I would expect similar results to the SNES emulators out there.

Well, Neo Geo and Genesis emulatoion on the Dreamcast are very good. Slowdown is almost never a problem in them, though audio or certain graphics modes sometimes can be.

SNES has never been satisfactory, in my opinion, though I still have no doubt that the DC could do it if the emu was designed properly.

I wouldn't expect anywhere near the quality of the SNES emulators from a GBA emulator on the DC, though. While the graphics often look quite similar on those two systems, the internal hardware is not at all similar. The GBA is much more powerful in most respects.

With Genesis emulation running as well as it does, you'd think someone would have done a sega cd or 32x addition to said emulators.

This sucks. Been looking a few things up, I don't think the DC is powerful enough to emulate GBA properly. :(

Not many consoles are. As far as I recall, even the PSP could not..although that may have changed since I have not tried it in a long while.

The Dreamcast DOES emulate so many great systems tho....up to Neogeo CD and it is near perfect.

Be great to try Neogeo if I could find the right bios files. I'm unsure too if I'm burning this DC disc right...

Anyone here try Virtual Troy Advance, GBA emu for the DC?

I would like to see the GBA emulatd on the DC or PS2 w/ a nice, interlaced picture. Looks like shit coming out of the Xbox, although I guess w/ an HD tv you could use a scanline filter.

EDIT: I mean non-interlaced. :/

Just FYI, the PSP can emulate the GBA very, very well. For some reason it can emulate the GBA better than the SNES.

I'd expect the DC to be capable of a godd GBA emulator. The GBA has a much simpler design than the SNES, no? The SNES has several custom chips while the GBA makes do with a simple ARM7TDMI 32-bit processor found in a lot of cell phones.

Wow, shows you how long I've been out of the loop. Oh well, back to playing some Genesis :)

It's a simpler design maybe, but more powerful, so it definitely requires more processing power to emulate it. I'm sure the Dreamcast could do it if someone dedicated to the project who knew both systems well put the time in, but that's not likely to happen at this point.

Visual Troy Advance is a very quick port of a PC emulator using SDL. I don't know if it has any Dreamcast specific optimizations at all.

gpSP-DC is a better GBA emulator, it's a port of a GP2X GBA emulator. But again, I think it has no optimizations for the Dreamcast. It usually runs about 60-75% speed with sound.

False, but oh well.

I hadn't thought that the Dreamcast - which is older than the GBA by two years - would be able to emulate the younger device. I suppose it's to be expected given how simple the GB line has been, of course. I expect the current consoles would be able to emulate DS/PSP, for example (maybe even the Wii could do it).
