Hi there

I am really in need of help here. Due to the fact that the s-video input on one of our TV's doesn't work I need to use standard RCA cables (yellow, red and white) to connect the PC to the TV. For PAL games this is fine, the picture is quite acceptable. However in NTSC mode there is a distortion in the graphics. I think its called dot crawl, where on the edge of images there is a kind of wavy distortion. Keep in mind when the s-video was working there was no dot crawl and the TV is NTSC compatible. I'm using a Gforce3 and TV Tool for the TV out.

Any help to eliminate the distortion will be great.

Thanks
Sam Delaurentis

Get a TV with a working S-Vid port.

There's nothing you can do to eliminate dot crawl in composite NTSC video-it's simply one of the drawbacks of the connection type.

wonder why it only does that in 60hz mode and not in PAL 50hz mode?

Because NTSC has some serious design flaws that guarantee dot crawl & color shift.

The only way to lessen dot crawl is a very, very, very good comb filter. They're usually built in to the TV. Dunno if you could find one externally - but if you did, you'd need (at least) s-video to hook it up.

You may be able to calibrate the output from your PC to minimize dot-crawl. When I had my computer connected to my TV, I fiddled with the TV out settings in the ATI control panel and it made a big difference.

good, so there is a way to minimise dot crawl even though you don't eliminate it completely. Since NVIDIA drivers suck at TV out on the GForce3 series I'll play around with TV Tool

older non digital comb filter.
my old commador 64 monitor is great for composite video.
find the oldest tv set you can then test it.
