The Paypal site won't let me access my account unless I change my password, and frankly, I don't see a reason why. I didn't get any notification via email and I sure as hell don't think a password that's as long as mine is not secure.

Anyway.

I'm asking to make sure I'm not being screwed over or anything.

They are not asking me to. Are you logging in at www.paypal.com or are you hitting a link on an e-mail. I get about a dozen BS e-mails from supposed eBay and PayPal. I must get 5 Become a Power Seller BS e-mails every day. Mike : )

are either of these numbers any good still?

I don't click on links. I type www.paypal.com on my browser. It lets me log in normally and it even shows me my two secret questions, but it REFUSES to let me do anything if I don't change my password!

Edit:
I tried logging in with IE and I got this message:

We are currently performing regular maintenance of our security measures. Your account has been randomly selected for this maintenance, and you will now be taken through a series of identity verification pages.

Protecting the security of your PayPal account is our primary concern, and we apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

Yeah right. Goddamn bastards. All I want to do is pay my eBay fees!

That is very strange. That's never happened to me in any of the thousands of times I've logged in over the years. I've never seen or heard of it happening either.

But if you're logging in direct via the paypal.com website, I suppose it has to be legit.

I must have been selected too..

I logged in and without warning my password didn't work. A quick change, and I was up and running again.

Yeah, I changed it to my usual super-long password and I didn't get any more prompts. :)
