I live in the Dallas/Fort Worth area, which has several Movie Trading Company stores. I'm not sure if the chain is nationwide or not, but they've recently began carrying Atari 2600, NES, and other classic game cartridges and systems. All their pre-NES games are $1.99 each, no matter how rare. I've found some pretty good stuff, including Tapper and Bank Heist for the 2600.

Movie Trading Company stores are a Dallas/Fort Worth chain only. They were recently bought out by a company called Vintage Stock, with locations across Oklahoma and Arkansas. I've never been to one of their stores, but I have bought some of their stuff from one of their sponsor booths at the Oklahoma Videogame Expo. I was hoping they would convert the Movie Trading Company stores into Vintage Stock stores, but turns out that's not going to happen. Still, I like being able to find old games there. Different locations have different stock. The store by Irving Mall has no pre-NES stuff, but the one in Hurst has a bunch, even Odyssey2 stuff. At a couple locations I've found Neo-Geo Pocket Color games. Pretty nice. Plus, they carry Pocky!

I don't know if there's any other locations around the Metroplex, but on Cooper Street north of The Parks Mall in Arlington is a new store opened up by what's obviously the same company as Movie Trading Company. It's called Entertainmart, and they've got a big wing devoted to modern video games. No retro stuff, but really cheap prices on Xbox games, and a big selection. And they do something pretty nice (that I wish GameStop would freakin' do), games sold to them without cases or instruction manuals are usually sold for $3.99. None of GameStop/EB Games caseless games sold for full price crap. And they've got a bunch of games that were listed in the "Rare Xbox Games?" thread.

I didn't know that Movie Trading Company survived after Blockbuster screwed it up. It was an independent company that Blockbuster bought in Dallas in 2002 so they could learn the buyback business. They opened stores in other cities, then abruptly closed them down. There were four or five in Houston that had a good selection of movies, average game selection, and a crappy selection of CD's. They definitely didn't deal in anything pre-PSone. And a large percentage of their stock had the Blockbuster pre-played game stickers all over it. Glad to see that it didn't completely die.
