Well, I thought I might as well start a thread on what may be one of the best games in history. The 360 demo was just too wonderful.

To start off, here's a link from someone in the Shacknews chat that works for 2K games. It is what would have been the art book in the LE edition had people not voted for that dang figurine:

Enjoy!

Yes, the figurine is bigger than the Prey ones but, oh, no way, I couldn't disagree more on it being better than an art book. I loves me a good art book based on my favorite video games :)

EDIT: Although, upon further reflection, it will make a good can opener using the drill bit hand.

I understand, but at least we get to view the art now anyways. :)

I don't know my LEs pretty well, but getting a 6 inch figure with this LE is a personal first for me.

I was thinking the exact same thing.

I'm still in disbelief of how amazing this game looks. If the whole game is as good as the demo, the Game of the Year contest might as well be over.

From what I've seen so far in the demo, the art direction is an A+. I don't think I've ever seen such environmental detail in a video game (Resident Evil 4 is close).

All this talk of "game of the year" has some substance, but "best game ever"...not even close. At it's core, it's just a single player FPS. That alone bumps it out of the top 10 of all time IMO.

Anyway, I'm still buying this on day one. So far it's incredible and (obviously) the best looking game on the 360. The gameplay feels solid but I already was sick of panning the camera down to find items...that may get a little old as the game goes on. Hopefully this remains a minor issue.

I do see what you mean. A lot of people only put RPGs in their top ten for obvious reasons. But, I would put this in my top 5 along with another FPS, Quake 1. I still play that game all the time. The rest of my top 5 games include Sid Meier's Pirates! on C64, Civilization 2 and SMB. I also liked FF3 and 7 and Earthbound.

It's always hard to say that a game about to come out will be one of the best, and I am jumping the gun a bit (lol), but I'm more excited about this game than anything else in the past couple years. The demo only got me more excited.

This is a great year to be a gamer, isn't it? So many good games coming out this fall.

Anyone else notice that little sister staring from its hole in the wall right outside the bathrooms in the demo? Or, how about that dead cat?

Every time I replay this demo, I see more things. I've finally figured out the hacking and that's really cool.

1up.com just revealed a neat lil easter egg about the BioShock demo...you can unlock HARD mode.

From the Xbox 360 Dashboard, head into your Gamer Profile and select the Game Defaults option. Once in there, click on General and change the Difficulty option to "Hard." When you load up the BioShock demo, the previously unreachable Hard difficulty option will now be highlighted. If you accidentally hit the analog stick and move away from the Hard option (thus making it unreachable again), you can hit the B button to back out and give it another shot.

You think? I reckon Gears looks better personally. If you mean the art direction i guess thats in the eye of the beholder.

Personally im not sold on it. I think it will get better the more you play though, i remember having the same feeling when i first played final fantasy 3 (6) but these days its one of my fave games of all time, so there is still hope.

One thing i found to be a really tedious was those mini games when you take over your foes. It just slows the game down. Wtf does redirecting a pipe have to do with taking over an enemy?

FYI: Toys R Us appears to be breaking the street date and selling it early. Several people on CAG, GameFAQ's, and the Xbox forums bought it yesterday. It may pay to check your local store before TRU gets wise and pulls it from shelves.

I'll pass seeing as I got the beloved "3 red lights" last night (this will be my 3rd 360)! Xbox support is going through an "upgrade" today and tomorrow, so I can't even have them send me a box until Friday. Hooray!

And, seeing that it's part of the 'Buy Madden, get another game 50% off' deal, one could stand to come out well on this deal.

You could even trade Madden in and keep Bioshock...meaning you'd have paid full price, but get $25-$30 credit at the local GameStop.

Welp, the word seems to have gotten out to TRU about their 'slight' fuckup. The guy in the RZone tried to play dumb with me, but I had just seen his manager come shooting out of his office and have a talk with them before I got in there. He then told me that they hadn't gotten any copies in stock or anything... Too bad there was 6 or 7 master boxes full of Wii's and other Master boxes for 360 games on the same trolly cart.

Oh well.

Just checked at my TRU in Arlington, TX. No go here. They were very strict that they were not going to sell it early.

I'll keep checking the 2K forums for any official word but they might as well go ahead and release it early. Here's one site that's covering it fairly well:

BioShock was leaked on the internet already, torrents galore for it now.

I called the toys r us by me and the woman said it was "pushed" back to the 21st, so they did screw up and sell early.. figures I just missed it too.

PC version doesn't seem to have that problem as far as I can tell.

2K Games has come out and reaffirmed the 21st as a street date and that it was all a Boo-boo by one of their retail partners. linky (http://www.joystiq.com/2007/08/15/so-sad-bioshock-sticks-with-original-release-date/)

Aparently around 12pm EST TRU Corporate sent out a PULL THE GAME NOW email, so when I got to my TRU this morning they'd already gotten the notice before they opened. I wonder what kinda damage 2K is gonna post against TRU, if any.

It definitely felt creepy walking though some halways. I thought that was pretty unique among FPS's, if not games in general these days. The gameplay itself, well, it played fine. I didn't really see anything different in the demo than any other FPS. Which isn't a bad thing, it's just not my favorite genre. I still might pick it up, they hype is getting to me

It certainly isn't a kid's show, but Jack is correct in stating that the show does have a fairly young audience. Still, nothing in the ad shown on SD was violent, so he doesn't remotely have a leg to stand on here. The M rating was also featured in the ad.

You know, I was thinking the same thing. You mean to tell me he was watching one of those GARBAGE wrestling shows and he objected to the content of a commercial?

In my opinion people are responsible for their actions regardless of what media (or whatever else) they consume. But if he has to do this, maybe Jack should worry more about what is happening in the free, over-the-air wrestling broadcasts that children love to watch so much.

Indeed! Thanks for the heads up yesterday on the price.

I am really enjoying this game so far, though I am not very far in. I'm not the biggest FPS fan either, but this game just has a style of its own. It's not just the presentation either, the "weapons" (actually the abilities you get) and how you use them are awesome. I wasn't entirely convinced until I obtained Telekinesis. The actual guns themselves so far are meh (revolver, machine, shotgun), but this could change (but even if it doesn't the abilities are the meat).

You can do some cool tricks too, like enemies normally can heal themselves at heal stations, but you can hack the heal stations so that it damages enemies when they try to heal. Or there's these flying armed robots that are a pain in the ass, you can hack them and they'll follow you around and shoot the bad guys. You can electrocute enemies in standing water. There's all sorts of stuff like this you can do to inflict damage to enemies, and even at an hour in I think I've missed some of the tricks you can pull off.

I'm really a big fan of the way the story is presented, in the sense that, like say Metroid Prime (where you could scan, read, etc.) a good bit of it is entirely optional (in this case the diaries)...so people like me can skip all that crap and get down to the shootin' and creepy bits.

I'm not quite sure yet it'll turn out to be a solid !!!10!!!, it'll depend on how some of the repetitive prone tasks (like the hacking and searching) will play out as the game proceeds.

Oh yeah, this game is freaking creepy as all hell.

I think my all time favorite game just got dethroned, and Bioshock has just taken its place. I brought it home around 5pm, and just haven't been able to put it down for more than 20 minutes.

I've beaten 3 Big Daddy's, rescued 3 Little Sisters, and am currently getting my ass handed to me by a 4th Big Daddy with a big ass grenade launcher.

This game, IMO, feels like Half-Life 2 meets Super Metroid. There is alot of emphasis on exploring everything around. The weapons feel nice, the hacking is challenging, but not impossibly hard, the upgrading and building of weapons works out nice, the controls are ultra-responsive, and laid out quite nicely. The art direction, and voice acting is second to none. After a while you feel like you're watching some 40's, noir/sci-fi/horror movie. And you're the lead character.

Definite contender for GotY. 10 out of 10 (and I'm only about 4 hours in..)

Anyone holding out, you're seriously missing out on a truly bad-assed game. And I thought this would only be a timed exclusive, I was wrong. Apparently the box art says 'only on 360 and windows'. Sorry, PS3 guys.

Holy crap.... I'm about three hours in, and I honestly think I've found my new favorite game. Everything from the art direction to the enemy AI is incredible.

I've heard it described as Doom 3 with a story, but that's selling Bioshock short.

I should probably just shut up about this game since the entire goddamn internet is going to be yakking about it for the next couple weeks, but before I do, I wanted to ask what everyone thought about the level design. It's the one mild complaint I have; its very Metroid Prime-ish, but maybe a tiny bit more contrived? So far, of course... I just got past the fabulous Dr. Steinman.

G-Boobie, out.

PS: Incidentally, I'm playing this on a 37 inch 720p LCD. The environments set a new standard for utter excellence, putting even the mighty Gears in its place. (Some of the enemy textures, on the other hand....)

I think my all time favorite game just got dethroned, and Bioshock has just taken its place. I brought it home around 5pm, and just haven't been able to put it down for more than 20 minutes.

If I remember correctly, you had mentioned in another thread that your favorite game was System Shock II. I haven't played Bioshock myself yet, but I've known for a while now that it was going to *easily* be one of the best games ever made... Nevertheless, I still need to ask this burning question:

Is it, indeed, better than System Shock II?? If it is, that would make Bioshock the second best FPS/RPG of all time (the first spot is forever reserved for Deus Ex of course ;))

Anyone holding out, you're seriously missing out on a truly bad-assed game. And I thought this would only be a timed exclusive, I was wrong. Apparently the box art says 'only on 360 and windows'. Sorry, PS3 guys.

No, the developer already broke it to Game Informer this summer that a PS3 version is being released in 2008. Whether they finish it or not is a different question. Who wants to play a FPS with the PS3 controller anyway?

I've logged about 4 hours right now, and I'm loving it. However, I was wondering if anyone is receiving the same issue/bug I am. Twice now I've tried to hack machines (vending only), and the game has completely frozen on me. So much so that I couldn't even shutdown the Xbox from my controller. Kind of kills the tension when this happens, but I would echo the sentiment that it's the best game of the year so far.

Actually, my favorite game of all time was Jet Set Radio. I actually never played either System Shock, so I can't really give an opinion on if it's better or not.

But I can say this game will definitely give the mighty Halo 3 some very stiff competition.

And Geneshifter... Right now, I'm trying to rescue them all just to get the achievement points. My 2nd playthrough, I'll probably harvest 'em all.

And I also wanna add - the big daddies (known formally as 'The Bouncer') are really very satisfying boss fights. It's frantic, yet not impossible.

EDIT - And that widescreen glitch, I have yet to run into it. And in 1080i, this game is just so purdy! ;)

I just picked up the limited edition without a preorder. It is clearly one of the better one in a long time the box size is about 5oblivions col ed stack together. Well worth the 10 bucks. Now off to work:)

If you think it was worth the extra $10 you should see what people are buying it for on ebay. They're fetching over $200 now.
