Just stumbled over an ad for this site and decided to check it out...

www.1DollarVideoGames.com

Was immediately impressed by the array of systems-

3D0, 2600, 7800, Dreamcast, GB/GBC/GBA, GC, Genesis, N64, NES, SNES, PS1, PS2, XB, Game Gear, Sega CD, Saturn, TG16.

Clicked on Genesis and saw almost 300 games for sale for $1 apiece! Most were cart only, but a not-inconsequential amount had boxes or were even complete.

Shipping is high, but not unreasonable. First game was $4.00, then I think any amount up to 7 games is $13.95. Then it jumps to $29.95 up to an unknown amount of games (I stopped at 10).

Obviously the best # of games to do is the most you can in each shipping "bracket".

I got 7 games - Rocket Knight Adventures, Warlock, Warrior of Rome, D&D Warriors of the Ether, Aladdin, Light Crusader and Granstream Saga for $21 ($7 + $14 shipping). $3 per game total, not too bad!

I'll report back when I get the games.

I started to browse and my browser shot up a warning that the site may be a phishing site. Let me know how it goes for you because it looks like a good place, but if it's phishing, then it's supposed to look that way. If your order goes well, I may give it a shot.

Awesome site. It is headed for my favorites list. Won't be ordering right away but it is certainly one to at least bookmark for now.

I wouldn't trust them either way. Just poked around a bit and I found some security holes, and I'm pretty friggin tired.

I didn't get any warnings or issues looking around for a bit but it sure is rarity 1 heaven. If you need a loose sports title I guess you can always overpay there.

Looks like one of the many sites run by BRE Software. I sold a bunch of games to them through the mail about nine years ago and they sent me a check within a week for exactly what was agreed upon. Maybe it's a clearance outlet for their store and websites.

Definitely let us know how it goes.

Yeah, the payment on paypal is listed as going to BRE software.

I collect original Game Boy games, and this seems like a great source for them if it turns out to be legit.

Please post on your buying experience once it's all completed.

I would literally buy one of every GB game they have in stock that I don't already own, and probably for GBA/GBC too.

Something is rather odd on that site.

I think it's just their overstock or "stuck with" inventory. Their PSX stuff is all practically "disc only in okay condition".

Considering BreSoftware has been selling a LOT of huge lots on ebay, maybe this was their best way to get rid of the truly bottom of the barrel stuff but allowing specific games to be bought.

Just got them!

Came in a box filled with packing peanuts.
6 Genesis cartridges and 1 PS1 game (in a slim CD case).
2 cartridges had rental stickers
1 cartridge had marker
2 cartridges did not work initially but did after cleaning their contacts with rubbing alcohol and Q-tips.

Overall, I'm happy with my experience! $21 for 7 games is within the range of reasonable, especially getting to pick out the exact games. The games all worked with a reasonably-expected amount of cleaning for the older games. While it took 5 days from the order to the shipping, the shipping was pretty darn quick at only 3 days.

Well, my order came in yesterday. I had ordered 30 games, but the box seemed awful small. When I opened it, there were only 14 games! There was also a note saying the other 16 games were out of stock and that my paypal account had been refunded the difference.

FantasiaWHT

Seems like that when they list a game, they have just one of them per listing (I think I saw multiple listings of the same game in various conditions)

I'm guessing they don't have an auto-inventory updater to go along with the purchases people make?

Huh? If other members here got onto the site and were able to get some games they needed for all of $1, then that is cool by me. Since the site appears to be legit, I'll hit it sometime soon and buy some of those "old shitty sports games" for a few different systems.

Damn! I was to slow, since the site has been picked over pretty well..

Congrats to all of you who got some good finds though!

People who didn't get the games they wanted are the folks who hesitated to order right away because they didn't know the site and wanted to see how someone else's order turned out first. So anyone who took a chance and plunged into an order the second this thread went up was more likely to get "good stuff." Sometimes you have to "take a chance." Being cautious with an unknown site might be more sensible but the extra day or two that someone waits may be the difference between getting a good selection and finding the site picked clean.

There are still 10-15 games on there that I would order in a second, being the resident DP sports game nut. Some of the ones I want are actually complete and while they are very common R1's, who knows when I am going to find them in a thrift store and I will pay 'round the same amount for shipping if I buy them on that site versus an internet forum or an auction site.

But yeah, I'm glad to hear the people who plan on actually keeping the games from their order were able to fill some holes in their collection.

As for the DP Resellers, I'm sure they will have their finds in Buy/Sell soon enough for us to see or perhaps on Ebay :-D

Will they stock more stuff

I bet they do, because I'm sure more PS1, PS2 and XBox stuff will slowly trickle in. Not like they will just pull the site offline when most of their stock is gone. No guarantee any more bargains will show up on there but I bet the site will remain up and get new stock periodically, even if a lot of it is disc only budget games or sports games.

WanganRunner
08-28-2007, 07:16 AM
I hope they stock more GB/GBC/GBA stuff.

I got a bunch of it already though.

I don't have too much interest in the disc-based games because they aren't complete though....

Shipping was EXPENSIVE, IMO. $30 for anything over what, 10 games? That's a lot.... I've shipped huge packages for $30 before.

FantasiaWHT
08-28-2007, 09:06 AM
To get the best deal of shipping, you need to order the max amount of games for whatever tier you're on. Yeah, $20 for 8 games is a bitch, but $13 for 7 games made it $3/game. Somebody on here got $2/game total with a lot more games.

rbudrick
08-28-2007, 09:36 AM
So they don't update their site as inventory dwindles? Is that accurate? If so that pretty much blows. I have a feeling that I'd order 90 games and get 10.

I got it down to $2 a game with 30 games... but then they only sent me 14 of the games I requested! That's the only part that pissed me off, because then it wasn't such a good deal. I don't know if the games I did get were worth what I ended up paying when you consider the new number of games/shipping cost ratio.

I ordered 40-something games, and they just did a partial Paypal refund because 30 of the games are not available. Needless to say I am VERY unimpressed that 3/4 of my order was canceled as I ordered a lot specifically to get a good deal on their horribly overpriced shipping, and I ordered long before most people in this thread. I've emailed them asking for a detailed invoice with what games they ARE shipping and the S/H cost, so I'll see what happens when that arrives.

Don't order from them.

Plus, Bregames lets you trade-in games, you can then turn around and use the cash to buy a newer and better game from them. I have had my eyes on Charlie and the Chocolate Factory for the PS2 which they are selling for 17.95.

What a sweet deal, I get a PS2 game and they get stuck with all my old dust collecting 8/16 bit carts.

Here are the trade-in prices I will get.

game title : (trade in value for complete copy)

AERO FIGHTERS : 0.55
CHAVEZ BOXING 2 : 2.75
DRACULA X : 0.55
NES Stadium Events : 0.24
NES Flintstones II : 1.08
NES Bubble Bobble 2 : 3.66
Virtual Boy Waterworld : 0.90
Virtual Boy Jack Bros : 0.65
Virtual Boy 3D Tetris : 1.60

Total cash received: $11.98

Damn, not quite enough, I will need to also trade in my mint copies of panzer dragoon saga and Keio the flying squadron.

lol i guess they are trying to cash in on stupid noobs. Any GOOD dealer would be offering half of what they can get, so $50 for bubble bobble 2 and $150 for stadium (which is a quarter or something, but anybody who had this game would take it if they weren't inot the collecting scene and didnt check ebay).

That's pretty much my plan. I don't mind them ratcheting up the price on their games (they can charge whatever they want), but doing it on ones they already sold and then cancelling the order? That's not cool. I have a feeling if I ordered from 5dollarvideogames.com, I'd get half my order and the other half would end up at 10dollarvideogames.com.

I did notice that the shipping seems to be cheaper at 5dollarvideogames.com, though. I almost wonder if these guys thought they could sell games at a loss and make up the money by gouging people on shipping. But that probably only works in their favor if you order 2 or 3 games, not 30. When they realised they had no profit margin on large orders, they change the price of each game.

I don't think 5dollarvideogames.com was up when 1dollarvideogames.com was first spoken of. I might be wrong but I didn't see the 5 dollar site until after a bunch of people flooded the 1 dollar site with orders and starting posting here and probably a few other message boards.

What I think happened is that they came into a ton of games or had a lot of extra games sitting around, put them online for sale without bothering to check the market/average prices on a lot of them first. Somewhere along the line, a bean counter had a brainstorm and said "Hey, these games are worth more than a dollar. We ain't going to sell these for just a dollar." Viola. New web site goes up, orders are cancelled or short changed and the games are snuck over there.

I didn't order from them but if I were one of you who did, I'd damn sure send the web site a few emails asking them what the big idea is and that what they are doing is flim-flamming people.

FantasiaWHT
09-10-2007, 11:20 AM
Yeah... if 5dollarvideogames is the same company as 1dollarvideogames (pretty safe bet) what they did is clearly illegal.

Once you have a contract for sale, backing out of it because you realize you can get more for it is a breach of contract. Conceivably, you could sue them for the value of the games (arguably, $5 now) minus what you would have paid for them under the contract ($1) for a grand total of $4 a game. Realistically, you'd lose a crapload of money by suing them. On the other hand, so would they in defending themselves. *shrug*
