View Full Version : Defeating Annoying DS Microphone Games

So lately I've been playing Warioware Touched. (I have to say, it's pretty unimpressive compared to Twisted, which was awesome.) I found that repeatedly sputtering over my DS for those microphone minigames was getting on my nerves, but I found a simple solution: all you need to do is place a drinking straw over the microphone's hole. Inhaling through the straw will register as blowing in the microphone.

Fortunately it seems that the idea of blowing into the microphone has been abandoned after the first crop of DS games. Maybe this is old news?

Well.. the mic is still used for a couple things here and there. Like in the new Pokemons when you battle online, you can voicechat with people across the world. Whether or not you can hear them clearly or understand them is a different story however LOL

By the way, I totally agreee on the Wario Ware Twisted vs. Touched

Wario Twisted = awesomeness
Wario Touched = crap

I generally have no problem rubbing the stylus over the microphone and getting results.

I thought blowing into the mic while you were using the hovercraft in Diddy Kong Racing was pretty cool. Too bad I cant seem to control the damn thing otherwise.

Actually, Nervous Brickdown, a fun (and recent) Breakout clone, makes use of the mic to keep the ball in the air. Makes you lightheaded pretty quickly.

It does? That sucks as I just bought the game and am already tiring of stuff like the second world and now I gotta deal with breathing into my DS just to play.

It's not required, it's just a way to help keep the ball in the air for higher combos. It's an unlockable item.

Yea, I just noticed that today while playing. It works out nice and makes some of the medal collecting much easier.

Having already invested quite enough time in finishing the utterly insipid game that is Super Princess Peach, I recently found myself quite annoyed at my inability to make much progress in Toad Jump, which requires some mighty precise exhaling into the microphone.

My solution was to spend a dollar on a turkey baster. To be precise, by removing the rubber bulb and pointing the wide end at the microphone while blowing into the narrow end, I found I could get remarkably precise and effective results, possibly due to the acoustic properties of the baster.

Fascinating, eh? An even better piece of advice would be to avoid wasting your time on Super Princess Peach!

The only DS game I've played that used the mic was Mario Kart. I was so happy when I realized I could just use the Select button to inflate my balloons. I was getting so lightheaded.

I loved it as well. It far surpasses New Super Mario Bros. IMO.

I enjoyed it. The touch mini-games were a bit lame, and a majority of the game was way too easy, but it certainly had it's charm. It's almost a hybrid of Mario and Kirby platforming.
