**ANY comments regarding any hardware failure of the 360 WILL BE IGNORED**

I own a 360, it is the only "this gen" system I own. What am I missing? I keep hearing about the great selection of games, but I must be missing something.

I don't care for sandbox games AT ALL. I am so-so on FPS (Gears was good, but I don't need to play more than one FPS every year or two). I could handle a superb racer once every 2 years (Burnout was fun). Other than that.... WTF am I missing? I want some games to play!

I think it has to do with the system coming out first, and just about all games come out for the 360 (with ps3 as an afterthought).

When the system first hit, it was the "xbox 1.5" and the "rushed failure" if you remember :)

It has some good games, but I think it's just the fact that the PS3 hasn't picked up steam yet and the Wii is rehashtrash-city.

I almost exclusively play XBLA and the demos. After the initial investment there is an awful lot of gaming to be had for little or nothing.

Lots of good games, when and if the PS3 gets moving it will might be on top.. all in time

There are lots of good games, the online service is excellent, XBLA has become better since it moved to two games per week, high quality trailers, lots of demos, a sweet controller, and it's come a long way since its launch titles. I wasn't impressed by the earliest games at all, but now I'm a fan.

The down side is the horrible d-pad, you get nickled and dimed on stupid stuff, and you need to be online to play XBLA games should you be playing on a system you didn't buy them on for whatever reason. And there's no good way to get around that. M$ might refund your points, but then you've got to set up a new silver account and download them with that, and it's just stupid.

This is true. I dropped out of gaming for a while, to the tune of 5 years, only got back in when the DS mario kart bundle was going around enjoyed the DS games but they're only good for a quick bash.

Christmas last year i got a Wii and its been collecting dust since february when i finished Zelda. I picked up a 360 about 3 months ago becuase live versions of sensible soccer and speedball are being released. I got gears and PGR with it and ive been enjoying those games a lot, the 360 is the best gaming experience i have had since the SNES days. It's like everything i enjoyed about the SNES tailored to that same audience be it an older one now. Looking forward to bioshock and mass effect soon to be released.

I am in the same boat as you. I do like sci-fi FPS but don't play online so XBL is useless to me. I also like the Burnout series but thats about it when it comes to racers. There are still enough good games on the ps2 and gc I have not played yet like God of War II, Zelda TTP, and Persona 3.

I am not sure if 350.00 is worth it yet for me. Plus, there is the hardware failure issue. My original xbox died on me several years ago, so I wasn't in a big hurry to buy another system from microsoft.

Well, theres....

Bioshock (for a while)
Gears of War
Crackdown
Dead Rising
Forza Motorsport 2
The best new Pac-Man game in over 25 years.
The better online network
Xbox Live Arcade (you can get your old school fix and modern casual fix, all at the same time)
Two words: Achievement. Points. (my signature is my Xbox live stats)

And soon, the hardware will be improved (that's positive about the hardware - the new chips are in production, and will be around soon.)

And I'll put it this way, I also have a Wii. My 360 gets far more attention than the Wii, and I went through sheer hell to get it, too...

AND I've had my 360 over a year and a half, without a hitch.

To be honest, other than BioShock (which is coming out for PC as well), I can't see anything else on the 360 that I'd actually like to play right now. I finished Gears of War co-op with a friend and thought it was ok, but certainly nothing buying the console over. Dead Rising was great fun but I lost interest about 30 minutes in. Probably the two biggest things the 360 has going for it are Halo 3 and its online support, but since I couldn't care less about either online gaming or generic FPSs (oops), there's not really much of an incentive for me there either. I suppose there are some good games out for the original XBOX that you can play via backwards compatibility though....

Personally, right now I'm having a hard time deciding to pay for *any* of the 3 main consoles out there, and I still consider the PS2 to be the best bang-for-buck option available at the moment. I'll probably be picking up a Wii when No more Heroes, Zak and Wiki, Smash Bros Brawl and Metroid Prime 3 come out, but for the 360 I'll need to see at least 5 games I'm interested in playing before I even consider it. As for the PS3, for what Sony actually has on offer at the moment I wouldn't buy it even if it was $99 :P

Just my 2 yen.

The 360 is going to be the PS2 of this generation of systems. It will the the "all arounder system". Good controller, and games. DIRT and Forza for racing will keep you very occupied. Halo 3, Mass Effect, Too Human are all coming out hopefully this winter. Good things hopefully. I like my Wii, I like my 360, the PS3 will have to wait.

I have to admit, there was a time about a month ago when I was feeling the same way. However, things have turned around big time as of late. There are just too many solid titles coming out to deny the 360.

I wasn't even thinking about getting Bioshock because it's a FPS-like title...but then I played the demo. Amazing game. Then theres Stranglehold...also a unique and worthy gaming experience. Put this together with some other soon to be released mega titles including: Eternal Sonata, Guitar Hero III, Halo 3, Mass Effect, Army of Two, etc PLUS++ the list of current blockbuster titles like: Gears of War, Forza 2, Dead Rising, Viva Pinata, Lost Planet, and possibly Oblivion (although im anti MMORPG)...and you have a good idea why people consider the 360 a great gaming value.

If that isn't enough for you...look at the other options at the moment. The competition isn't putting up much of a fight right now. Unfortunately there aren't many quality next generation gaming experiences for the price (at least to the "hardcore" crowd of gamers).

Even if the PS3 had more super titles it can't produce a steady frame rate thus far. (Understand im not saying the PS3 is POS etc...i think its going to be wonderful in the long run...but in the meantime) Also, the Wii as much as I hate to admit it is literally wasting life right now. The sad fact is (keep in mind I own a Wii as well) once you figure out that the key to every Wii game is wiggling your wrist back and forth the fun is basically dead (example: I can hit a homerun in Wii Sports by taking a nice clean hack at a ball like I would in real life....and yet flicking the wrist three inches has the same affect). There are a few exceptions obviously but you get my point.

There you have it: all the reasons why the 360 is "so great". :D

What's so great about the Wii or PS3? All the new systems are kinda sucky right now and finding their legs. I would certainly argue that the 360 has it "goin on" more than the Wii or PS3 does right now. Of course, markets can and do change...

I agree keel. I constantly hear folks talk about the great library of games available and when I'm browsing the aisles I'm all, "There's Dead Rising, N3 and GH2... hmm, that's all I see that interests me." I think I'm missing something too. :)

I don't have 2cents to add since I don't own a 360. At least this thread will be in my subscription folder so I can read it and maybe see what I'm missing. Pac-Man CE sounds great. I can add that to the list of pros now. :D Is it classic 1 player style or multiplayer ala Pac-Man VS?

There are lots of good games out for the 360 other then forza 2 and gears but those 2 i enjoyed the most also. For me anyway the online thing is the biggest reason i like the 360. I also like FPS alot too.

I will give you an example gears, great game right but very short. But because of AP and online with my friends that game got more replay then most games i have played. I enjoy games more when able to play with friends.

But if you still don't like the lineup out there or you do and go through the games to fast like me. I am haveing fun playing GC games on my wii and i just bought a PS2 for playing a bunch of games i miss out on last gen. Good way to pass the time between big title launches.

I think that the 360 has as an equal or better selection for almost every genre at this point. Playstation was always known for RPGs but I can name more RPGs for the 360 than I can for the PS3. Also, the 360 has always been considerably cheaper than the PS3. The PS3 is nice for it's Blu ray playback ability. A friend of mine bought a PS3, and he says that's all he plans to use it for.

QFTx2

I've had my 360 for about 7 months now.

I have put three actual game discs in my system since I have owned it: Guitar Hero II, Amped 3, and Blazing Angels.

The vast majority of my playing time goes towards XBLA games: Geometry Wars, Worms, SotN, Boom Boom Rocket.....

There is so much gameplay to be had here, and the fact that I can get entirely original games as well as classic remakes.

Wow, I really don't know what else I can add, but I'll try:

I bought this as a little present to myself for snagging a sweet bonus thanks to my blood, sweat & tears last year at work. Since I bought it, it hasn't spent more than a few days (save when I'm away) turned off. Either myself or my fiance will turn it on and play, right now she likes:

Burnout Revenge
Pacman: CE
Lumines

Right now some of the titles I'm playing are:
Guitar Hero II
Uno
Condemned
various demos for what looks like a dynamite fall season

Just have a look at my card if you want to see everything else I've enjoyed on the system.

There is a lot out there for many different tastes out there. I guess it's just tough for the 360 to shake the image of "shooters and racers."

I don't have a 360 yet, but I'll get one whenever Banjo-Kazooie 3 comes out (No telling when that'll happen...)

I have a Wii, but other then SSBM, I rarely played with it (My Dreamcast gets more play time). I'm holding out for Super Smash Bros. Brawl, though, so I might blow the dust off my Wii and enjoy some smashin'.

I don't have a PlayStation 3 because they are still too expensive and there arn't that many games I'm interested in for it compared to PlayStation 2 (PS2 > PS3)

I'm still on the fence about the 360 myself. Steel Battalion, Sega GT and Forza and later Dai Senryaku were enough for me to buy the original which was about $150 at the time if I remember correctly. I never had live though.

The 360 has new Forza... and I guess thats about it. I like the looks of the Halo edition 360 thats coming but for $400 it's a bit steep for me. I did hear a rumor that the original Duke Nukem 3D might be coming out for XBLA and if thats true it might be enough to push me to get a 360 if Duke3D has online death matches through Live. I used to love playing Duke3D deathmatches back in the day.

Question, are the original Xbox1 live games still playable on Live? Is Sega GT still Online?

Yeah, Xbox games are playable on Live. Sega GT is still online (all Xbox games are besides some EA ones which are closing servers soon) but I do not know if anyone plays.

So... You like RPGs and survival horror? Seriously, I think that every game that isn't an EA sports title falls into the genres you DON'T like. Also, Gears is a third person shooter, not first; I'll assume that means you aren't interested in Lost Planet or Bullet Witch.

Check out Oblivion. It'll keep you busy for a hundred hours or so, and has a 'Game of the Year' edition coming out in September that has the Shivering Isles expansion right on the disc. They've apparently also stabilized the code a bit more so there's less system crashes and freezing.

If you're a japanophile, you're screwed. You've got Senko no Ronde (The title is prefixed with Wartek here in the states), Enchanted Arms(which is pretty bad), and thats it. Senko no Ronde is a weird hybrid of fighting game and shmup and isn't for everyone... Try before you buy.

Other than that, I think, there's DOA 4, a bunch of sports titles, and yeah. Thats it.

And if you're into blatant GTA rip offs give Saint's Row a shot. I really liked it, had some cool features that the more recent GTA's left off. Will also be a good time passer while waiting for GTA IV.

I'd have to say my favorites would include: GoW, Saint's Row, Dead Rising, Lost Planet then online (sorry shooters) I like Call of Duty 3 and Farcry.

Call of Duty 3 is like a cheesy version of Return to Castle Wolfenstein (PC) online but still fun, and Farcry even though lacks in single player is awesome online.

If you're into the strategy games I hear Battlestation Midway is pretty good, and then theres the Tolkien game as well.

I really don't know. I tried to get into the GTA series a number of times...it just feels like there's so much wasted time. I don't enjoy the wandering around or the travel time it takes to get from place to place. I did play the Crackdown demo, but not Mercenaries. Crackdown just seemed like a GTA clone.

I was really looking forward to Dead Rising, but it turned out to be a disappointment for me. I had a lot of trouble with the map and reading the text was giving me a headache. I didn't care for the escorting (why the escorting? why do they put this in games? it's been done right like twice.). I was also getting DREs almost every time I turned the game on. Now I'll just fire up the demo every once and awhile, kill some zombies for 5 min, and be done with it.

I didn't get very far in Lost Planet either...

I will check out some of these other suggestions. I am looking forward to the Bioshock demo and Project Sylpheed looks interesting. I rented Dirt last night and I like it so far, though very hard to transition from Burnout :) I may rent that Marvel game as well.

I have actually never gotten the chance to play Guitar Hero. It looks like a lot of fun, but I can't rent it or anything...and it is a high entry price for never having played before.

Man, that's a depressing statement. Crackdown is currently my Game of the Year for 2007, that is until something else knocks it out of the top spot. I'm sure something will, there are lots of really big games coming in the next 4 months or so, but right now Crackdown is still holding that position for me. Also, I hate when people compare Crackdown to GTA, cause really, they are quite different. At first blush, it might seem they are very similar, and that Crackdown is just a blatant GTA ripoff, but then you are missing out on the true game within Crackdown. Crackdown is all about improving your characters abilities and finding all the agility orbs and secret orbs. It's more of a collecta-thon and a platformer than anything. The actual missions in which you are trying to kill the gang bosses are really the least interesting part of the game.

A buddy of mine played Crackdown, and simply went around killing all the bosses and didn't even bother with the agility orbs and secret orbs and didn't really try to level up his guy's abilities, and he said the game was short and too easy, but he basically missed the true brilliance of the game. Until you find every single agility orb, and every single secret orb, then you don't really know anything about Crackdown. The brilliance of the game is in jumping from building to building, trying to find more agility orbs, so you can improve your agility rating, which will allow you to run faster and jump farther, which allows you to do even more crazy stuff. There there is the achievements. Basically, Crackdown is all about finding orbs, and getting the achievements. The actual boss missions are just filler to keep things interesting.

I agree with Anthony1.

Crackdown has more of a Metroid feel to it, than GTA, IMO.

There is more of an emphasis to explore, than getting from point a to piont b, picking up hookers on the way..

He meant to say that the 359 is a bit cheaper then the 360. People mix 'em up all the time.

I think this whole generation has been awesome so far, especially from a technology point of view. I was going to a friend's house, and he wanted to play some games. I grabbed the hard drive off my 360, transfered my Mii to a wii-mote and walked out the door. And with those seeds, a party was born.

It's just amazing how seamless things have become. I only started to realize it once i noticed i was talking to friends over XBL as opposed to calling them on the phone.

The games themselves are fun, but it's the technology that sells me on the new systems. I use my Wii primairly as a bowling simulator and a youtube browser. I don't see that as a knock on the system either.

The 360 excels at putting people together over the internet, the entire system has been designed around that point. The games speak for themselves, you'll have your own preferences. Personally, i think there's enough out there now for anyone to find quality entertainment. The question is whether or not the technology itself interests you.

I was sticking to games that have already been released, but you have a good point.

If we're including games that havent been released yet, then there's one game that utterly dominates 2007, and that game is Bioshock... Which is a FPS, but only in presentation. It remains to be seen whether Blue Dragon or Lost Odyssey are games that a 360 owner can proudly call exclusives, though. Early reports are not overly positive.

Eternal Sonata, though... I played the demo, and it's quite a good old school style RPG.

And I didn't really care for Crackdown for the same the short and easy, I guess I'll have to try it out again, maybe pro-long the boss fights and do more exploring.

It's definately no GTA though. I'd say the closest to a GTA clone obviously would be Saint's Row. If you don't like GTA don't even try it.

Another GTA clone is Just Cause, I picked it up for $18 at Circuit City. Not too bad of a game definetly a deal at <20. It involves some cheesy vehicle stunts with a harpoon like gun.

I actually tried bribing the register monkey at my local Toys R Us to sell me a copy of Bioshock on Friday, but he claimed that he'd lose his job if he broke the street date... Dammit. He gave me a demo for Jeanne C'Arc to appease my broken heart... It is NOT appeased.

If your game tastes run against FPS and sandbox, and you arent a racing nut, you should probably wait another few months before deciding which new gen consle to pick up. The 360 is going to have several important exclusives, but the PS3 may have more of the games that you'll actually get into... Ratchet and Clank Future and Heavenly Sword, for the immediate future, and the bigguns like Final Fantasy 13 and Metal Gear Solid 4 for the not so immediate future.
