I have been thinking of buying one of these for months now and was wondering if the Xbox 360 ELITE is a limited edition console(?)

I always go after the "unusual" stuff, so its either this or the Halo edition 360 console (my Xbox 360 system is on the fritz of dying any day now).

Anyone know if the rumors are true-is the ELITE a limited edition console? Would love to hear anyone's insight into this!

I'm pretty sure it is, however, there are a ton of units out. My local Best Buy has 9 of them on the shelf. The two Targets near me have 2-3. And finally, Meijer has one on the shelf last time I checked. I know these numbers don't really pertain to your area, but it's just that it seems the Elite isn't the hardest to find as of right now.

I would say no. I think this is going to be their bread and butter so to speak from now on. It looks like they are doing away with the core system altogether. So the premium and the elite will be the two models they carry all the time. The Halo model will not come with the game and will have the 20 GB hard drive. The elite model is really the best deal for the money with the 120 GB hard drive and the HDMI capability right out of the box. I paid $399.99 for my premium and would have gladly paid $449.99 (current retail of the elite) for the bigger drive and the HDMI. Hope that helps you.

No, The elite isn't a limited edition. But if you don't have one, Then get an elite when they go down in price again ($400)

Ah crap. I just got a new 360 returned to me from MS because my other died(3 red rings). The build date on the console I got has 8-3-2007 and it doesn't have HDMI connection :( Guess I just missed out.

I doubt that it's limited - one of my suppliers recently told me that he's "swimming in them", something I don't often hear about any version of any console.

It was rumored to be a limited thing before it was officially announced, but the announcement confirmed that it was a permanent addition to the 360 "family".

Wait until there is a confirmed system board revision with the 65nm chips that is reliable.

nah not limited. sure its not as common as the premium but there is less of a market for it. I had two in stock last week and still have one. Now the halo system I can see as limited

Really? Is there a source to this? Because if this is true, then that is awesome.

Before I got my Elite in early July, I didn't see many in the stores. Now I see them everywhere (Best Buy had at least a dozen last time I was there). Too bad mine crapped out on me after only 6 weeks. :(

I'm having trouble finding the exact place I read it, but I think it was on either Joystiq or Xbox 360 Fanboy.

It's true, actually- there were rumors the Elite was going to have the new board, imagine me and the hubby's chagrin when we found out it is no different from the regular 360 when we started it up and heard how loud it was.

I was under the impression (confirmed a few times by various MS reps, but hell they know nothing half the time) that the only limited part of the elite was the color. That at some point they'd stop making it black and turn it back into the regular white color the rest of the XBox systems were. The first batches did include a "limited edition" sticker on the box.

I don't know how this thread ended up with 14 replies...

While nothing is ever written in stone in this industry, the Elite is going to be around at least through the holiday season in it's current form and color. After that, who knows... but it's going to be around for a while.
